  1. It's been pointed out before, but Arcia just turned 23 in May and only has 550 or so MLB plate appearances. Let's give him some actual time to develop. If by the time he's 26 and still hasn't come around, then I think it would be more fair to heap blame on him. The same can be said for Hicks. Also, I disagree that the way to put together a winning team is to dispense of young, high-upside talent under team control for several seasons by hitting reset and acquiring different prospects. Prospects don't win major league baseball games--major leaguers do. Let's see what we've got before abandoning ship.
  2. Considering that Deduno has 12 more career starts than Gibson (41 vs. 29, respectively), the Twins have given him more of a chance to succeed simply because he's been around the club longer. Anyway, even though Deduno has a lower ERA this year, Gibson has been looking better on several metrics: In 2014 Gibson is doing slightly better than Deduno in terms of FIP (3.84 vs. 4.09), WHIP (1.28 vs 1.41), and BB/9 (2.5 vs. 3.9). He's also doing negligibly better with K/BB--1.80 for Gibson vs. Deduno's 1.77, despite Deduno's higher K/9. If you look at their career lines some of these differences are even more stark in favor of Gibson. So I'd say that Gibson has done more and has most definitely earned his spot in the rotation over Deduno.
  3. Also, I think Dozier probably should've gotten it over Suzuki, but they're both deserving.
  4. I believe Kent Hrbek was called up straight from A-ball.
  5. Longtime lurker, but I had to register to respond to this…Trading Hughes would be detrimental and I think shortsighted (on the same level as trading JJ Hardy for Jim Hoey) for a team that's close to competing. Sure he could fetch a nice prospect, but it's important to remember the point of signing guys in the first place: to be competitive. The goal is to build a team that can win the world series. When you start unloading top of the rotation starters that are under contract for three years, which we know don't fall from the sky, you are acting against your own interests.
