  1. By no means am I insulting Ben Revere. Juan Pierre has a lifetime .345 OBP and from what I have seen he projects to be pretty much the same kind of player, It is definite that he will have to hit, hit, and hit. It is no guarantee that Revere can match Pierre's production. The Sabremetricians seemingly think Pierre is a worthless player. Revere will have to pick up his game a bit. As far as throwing away his upside... are we killing the next Rickey Henderson? Are we inhibiting the next Tim Raines?
  2. Plouffe: it might be an experiment in terror, but Trevor should be used as a Super Utility player. If he could figure out his throwing issues his value increases 100%. This can be a year to take those chances as it is pretty much a rebuilding year.
  3. If Ben Revere is the best candidate for the 4th OF role, then he should be the pick. I'm not sure much more seasoning is necessary as he is what he is. He is fast, has a knack for making a fantastic defensive play, has no arm, can hit a little, but without any pop, does not walk and seasoning from what I have seen does not teach patience at the plate. He is more suited to start the year as a back up than Benson or Mastroianni. Benson has to start as his upside is pretty big and he has a chance to be an impact player. Mastroianni is not an answer, he is AAA material. Although Revere was a late round 1st round pick, he was more projected to be a 2nd-3rd round pick, but he is definitely not a bust. The MLB draft is for the most part a crap shoot. The Twins were criticized for picking Revere in the 1st round, but he has value and he has not disappointed. A 4th outfielder is better than a minor league washout.
  4. If Parmelee is the starting RF that is great! He was the bright spot of last season with his September call up and he has continued swinging the bat with the best of them this spring. Although I was interested to see what Revere could do in the starting role as far as SB's and Avg. are concerned, I view him as no better than a 4th OF. As we all know he has no arm and can hit a little bit with no punch and does not walk much. This offense concerns me and we need more fire power. I know that Parmelee's Minor League stats are not the stuff dreams are made of, but the age of 23 seems to be around the time individuals start figuring some things out. He looks solid and I think you have to let him have a go of it. It might not be the best case scenario defensively, but we need offense. Plouffe will get his share of time jumping around the OF and IF and Doumit has had his share of injuries, he is no guarantee. I hope that the writing on the wall is true and Parmelee is in the starting line-up on Opening Day.
  5. Dollars & sense are important, but as a Twins fan I would prefer to see some young fellas in there given that we are in a rebuilding mode... not retooling. Last year Dozier really accelerated his time frame to the majors. I understand the Carroll signing, but he is a fair hitting, good fielding Utility player. Has he ever had a starting job promised to him at the beginning of Spring Training? No. The Willingham signing wasn't awful, but in terms of where this franchise is, I would have given Benson the opportunity to be the RF. He has a much bigger arm, is much, much, much faster and could add the same kind of pop to the line-up (great athlete). It's a risk, but one I would be willing to take. On that note, I'd also take Hendricks over Marquis. I understand that these signings helped solve the equation of the team's depth, but does it stunt or build the growth of this franchise's future? I believe the former.
  6. When I heard John say that on the PT Morning Show I was a bit flabbergastered, but assumed it was an off the cuff remark not thoroughly thought through. Larry Jones is at the very least a 2nd ballot HOFer, but my guess is that he'll get 85%+ of the votes on the first ballot. We should also take into account that Ryne Sandberg was a 2nd or 3rd Ballot HOFer at a position not known for offense (he was also the standard at the time for his defensive prowess), which in my opinion is baseball blasphemy, but this could happen to Jones also. He is by far the position player face of the Brave's Franchise from the 1990's-2012 (most teams playoff bound). Andruw Jones & Brian McCann place a very, very, very distant 2nd/3rd in my opinion. Chipper is at least one of the top 10 3rd basemen of all time.
