It seems apparent that he won't pitch at E'town this year. I'm wondering if there is any chance he skips E'town altogether and pitches in Cedar Rapids next year. Maybe starting in extended spring training and then making the jump?

Has anybody read any recent scouting reports on him?

I'm hoping to see the Rock Cats play tonight or tomorrow. Does anyone know who is starting tonight and tomorrow? I think May is lined up to pitch tomorrow if they stay on schedule, but they may be moving people around if they are trying to make room for Meyer to make a start.

That's a pretty unlikely path for a 17 year old. His number are absurd though.

I kind of wonder why they are holding him back. He's put up better numbers than Stewart or Gonsalves, and he's a year younger. He clearly is a cut above the competition in the GCL, so I'd think letting him start a few in the appy would be to his benefit.

 

Just speculating, but could it be because he hasn't finished highschool yet?

Julio Urias did it at age 16. Age is just a number. There may be other reasons the Twins decide not to send him to Cedar Rapids, but age should not be one of them in my opinion.

Especially for a pitcher who will have a limited number of 'bullets', it does not make sense to have him waste a year in E'town simply because he's only 17. If the stuff and the makeup are there to have a successful year in Cedar Rapids then that is where he should be.

I was hoping September call-up! Just kidding. I'm not too worried where he pitches right now as long as he is pitching. The AFL, then start 2014 in AAA is my guess. Depends really on if the Twins think he has a shot to make the opening day rotation. If not, no reason to promote him this season.

I would be really hesitant to start Meyer in the majors. Probably wiser to protect the arm with lower leverage innings (ie AAA) to begin the year so he can hit it running when he is finally called up.
