Logi_Clevs Verified Member Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 As many of you well know, the Twins set the MLB record for hitting strikeouts in a season. This came to light in the playoffs as well, as they struck out 14 times in each of their last 2 games. In your opinion, what is the issue, and what needs to be done to fix it. It is either the strategic approach, coaching, or the players themselves. Strategic approach: something I think played a major part in the strikeouts, and something that is becoming very prevalent in today's game - FEAST OR FAMINE. Swing hard and swing heavy. If you swing and miss so be it, as long as you swing hard. Homeruns are king!!! Coaching: I'm honestly not to familiar with Popkins and the hitting staff and what their reputation has been when it comes to batter coaching. Players themselves: Some players just struggle with strikeouts - this somewhat ties with coaching as good coaches should be able to change and fix swings. I know all of these tie together, as coaches implement a strategic approach to the players, but in your opinion what needs to be done to fix the issue. Leave a comment and let me know!
RIP BYTO Verified Member Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 I don't see how they can keep Popkins around when you look back at all the strike outs and the often abysmal batting with runners in scoring position. There were so many times during the season that it seemed like the batter had decided he was going to swing at the pitch no matter where the location was before the pitch was even thrown. I know guessing at the next pitch is parting of batting, but I think this team needs more of a see the ball, hit the ball approach. Logi_Clevs 1

lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 If you want to fix the strikeout issues you need to fire all the hitting staff throughout the organization. it's not any single one of them it's an organizational philosophy issue.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 It seemed like they were guessing at what the pitch would be a high percentage of the time. How else could the batter frequently take a fastball over the middle of the plate for strike 3? I know batters look for a particular pitch. I can't believe that means that anything else just will not get swung at. Twins were middle of the pack in 2022. How do they break records the very next year. I don't think it was all Joey Gallo. Very interested in opinions about this. Please share: I'm curious.
