Byron Buxton

I think of Buxton as a right handed Barry Bonds with less power and more speed but very similar skill set. That's really saying something. Then you add in how much better Buxton's character seems to be and you'd have to say the sky is literally the limit.

So almost like an early Barry Bonds?

Tweet from Star Tribune's Phil Miller:

Twins have date in mind for Byron Buxton's promotion, Asst GM Rob Antony said. "If everything continues to go way it has, it won't be long."

My wife tried to take me to Cedar Rapids game for my birthday but it was rained out. Make up day is Tuesday. Promote him Wednesday BUT NOT BEFORE!!

It appears young Mr. Buxton may have "figured out" High-A pitching. Check out his last 8 games:

40 PA | 12H (6-1B, 3-3B, 3-HR) | 8-BB 9-SO | .375/.500/.844

Overall A+ line is still a respectable .278/.348/.468 but his current stretch of dominance is remarkable.

SSS alert!

One of the weirdest splits I have ever seen is Buxton's home/road games at high A...

In 14 games at home (in a large ML spring training ballpark) he has a SLG of .661 and an OPS of 1.092! However, in 16 games on the road he has a SLG of only .299 and an OPS of .575!

I don't know if this is part of the reason, but you could imagine that the training staff could make playing without a toenail a lot easier at home!

Buxton's last 23 games as the only 19 year old in the FSL:

105PA - 9EBH - 16BB - 20SO - 17SB - 5CS - .398/.495/.614

Fuhhhhhhhhhhh.............

Per Ben Badler

Byron Buxton, cf, Twins: In general, teams want to push prospects to a level where they’ll be challenged but not overmatched. Historically speaking, the Twins have taken a cautious approach to promoting players, but Buxton forced their hand, and Minnesota pushed him to high Class A Fort Myers as a 19-year-old. In 49 games, Buxton appears to have mastered the Florida State League, where he’s hitting .328/.420/.495. With a walk-happy weekend in which he drew six free passes (counting Friday’s doubleheader), he’s showing the combination of tools and polish that make him the best prospect in the game.

That speed is ridiculous.

Buxton makes contact with the ball somewhere around

, touches 1st around
, touches 2nd around
, and slides into 3rd at
. So give or take...11 seconds or less to make it from home to 3rd...Just wow.

90 feet x 3 = 270 feet, roughly 90 meters. The world record for 100 m is just under 10 seconds (without turns and starting without a bat in your hands. That is pretty impressive. Wow!
