  1. Romero is heating up again. He has now reached base in 9 of the last 10 games and has a .869 OPS during that stretch. He is now batting .275 with 10 HR and 39 RBI, as well as drawing 31 walks in 61 games this year.
  2. Here are Romero's stats through July 8. Click on pic to enlarge.
  3. Romero has cooled off in the last 10 games, batting .184 with 0 HR and 10 strikeouts. He will have to turn it around to stay in the conversation with Plouffe ahead of him and Sano not far behind.
  4. So I finally cashed in the four Red Wings ticket vouchers I got for Christmas and it was quite an eventful night at Frontier Field. Eventful for a lot of people other than Deibinson Romero. The day started with a wedding at home plate, and ended with a fireworks spectacle. In between, the action included everything from little leaguers throwing out the first pitch to elementary school students singing the National Anthem and God Bless America. Highlighted of course, by a 5 run 9th inning to walk off against the Gwinnett Braves. For Romero however, it was a forgettable night. He committed a throwing error in the top of the 5th inning that contributed to the Braves' 4th run of the game. With a chance to get the game winning hit, Romero struck out swinging with the bases loaded in the 8th and again with two on in the 9th. Fortunately, this has not been a typical night for Romero. In the past 10 games, he is batting .341 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. He will definitely have to avoid getting behind in the count though. As soon as he falls behind, he seems to be swinging for the fences, batting .111 with 9 strikeouts.
  5. Sobolewski is no longer playing every day. He is 3 for 34 in his last 10 games with no walks and 13 strikeouts. At this point, I think I have a better chance of getting a hit. #Disappointing
  6. A two homerun, 5 RBI night for Romero pushed the Wings to a 9-1 rout of the Charlotte Knights. Deibinson is now batting .333/.425/.636 in the last 10 games with 3 homeruns, 10 RBI, and 1 stolen base during that stretch. Interestingly, he is batting .185 at home compared to .429 on the road since being promoted to Triple-A.
  7. Jim Mandelaro's article details how Romero redeemed himself after committing an error. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20130530/SPORTS06/305300048/Red-Wings-IronPigs-Deibinson-Romero
  8. Romero's first AAA Home Run helped the Red Wings beat Lehigh Valley by a score of 13-10 today. The Wings are 6-2 since DJ joined the team. The team was 18-28 prior to his arrival.
  9. There is not much to report here. Sobolewski is now doing worse in AA than he did in Rochester to start the season. He owns an anemic .178 average, batting .135 at home and .155 in night games.
  10. $5 tickets, 50 cents hot dogs, and Deibinson Romero's first AAA hit were the highlights at Turn Back the Clock day at Frontier Field. A great day at the ball park today, despite a 3-2 loss for the Red Wings. After going hitless in his first two AAA games, Romero singled to center field to lead off the second inning. [video=youtube_share;QwiM3UITylM] Romero took second on a wild pitch by Charles Leesman, went to third on a single by Eric Farris, but was stranded there when Doug Bernier and Ray Olmedo both stroke out. In the bottom of the third, the wings had the bases loaded with no one out. Oswaldo Arcia popped out to shortstop. Deibinson and Jeff Clement both followed with strikeouts. In the 5th inning, the Wings once again loaded the bases with no one out. Arcia stroke out for the second time in the game. DJ Romero singled to left field driving in two runs, and took second base when Clete Thomas was caught in a rundown between second and third. [youtube The wings lost the lead in the 8th and never recovered, but I'm stuffed and Romero definitely looks promising.
  11. A humbling night for Romero. 0 for 4 with a strikeout in his Red Wings debut ending his streak of consecutive games with a HR. Not too worry, I'm sure this won't last long.
  12. He is officially on fire! That's 3 consecutive games with a HR. Today's game is not over yet, but here is a video of yesterday's bomb to the deepest part of the park. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=27303063&topic_id=&sid=t538&tci d=vpp_copy_27303063&v=3
  13. At this rate, all signs are pointing to a short stay at New Britain for Deibinson this year. Having now homered in consecutive games, he is now batting .304/.385/.478 with 2 HR in 7 games. Here is a video of his first blast: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=27274199&topic_id=&sid=t538&tci d=vpp_copy_27274199&v=3 How soon should we expect him here in Rochester?
  14. Mark is showing no resemblance to the Eastern League all-star of a year ago. He has 24 hits and 37 strikeouts in 127 at bats between Rochester and New Britain this year. With so many bright spots in the Twins farm system right now, the odds are probably greater of Mark being moved to another organization than playing for the Twins in the big leagues any time soon. I'm still hoping he can turn it around this summer.
  15. Deibinson was in the starting lineup, playing 3B for the Rock Cats today. In his first game of 2013, Romero was 0 for 3 with a walk, a strikeout, and 1 RBI. In his first at bat he flied out to right. He struck out swinging in the top of the fourth. Then he grounded out to the pitcher with an awkward swing in the sixth, driving in a runner from third. He walked in the ninth before a game ending double play.
  16. Sobolewski appears to be warming up slowly. He hit his first Rock Cats HR this week. In 7 games this May he is batting .250/.323/.429. The home park has not been very friendly as he is batting .174 at home compared to .278 away. Having 43 defensive chances, Sobo has committed 3 errors in 15 games with New Britain.
  17. According to the Star Tribune Deibinson Romero is in Fort Myers, and will remain in extended spring training for the moment until the Twins determine he's ready to start a minor-league season, most likely at Rochester.
  18. Since joining AA New Britain, Sobolewski is batting .226/.294/.258. He is 8 for 31, with 6 strikeouts and 0 HR in 8 games.
  19. Deibinson Joel Romero Born: 9/24/86, Dominican Republic Position: 3B Bats: Right Throws: Right Deibinson Romero signed at age 17 with the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on July 21, 2004. In 2012, he played 138 games with the AA New Britain Rock Cats, batting .267, with 19 HR, and 78 RBI. Romero tied for fifth in the Eastern League in homers and RBIs, ranked sixth in walks and third in games played. This year, Romero did not make it to the Twins camp on time because immigration officials in the Dominican Republic were unable to issue him a visa. A hurricane last year destroyed the town hall in Romero's hometown of Perdenales, destroying his birth records. Until recently, he was working out at the Twins' Dominican academy. Romero joined extended spring training this week and hopes to be in game shape in a short time. Deibinson Romero Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com
  20. I'd like to take Deibinson Romero.
  21. After a poor start, Mark Sobolewski has been demoted to AA New Britain. I picked Mark after watching him play here in Rochester earlier this year and reading his story. I'm hoping he can get it together and come back up soon!
  22. April 15 - 21 This was not a good week for Mark Sobolewski. He played in only 4 out of 7 games for the Red Wings with 2 hits in 15 at bats, 0 HR, and 0 RBI.
  23. Robert Mark Sobolewski Born: 12/24/86 Position: 3B Bats: Right Throws: Right After the Blue Jays’ dealing and wheeling this past fall, Mark Sobolewski was left unprotected and the Twins picked him up in the Minor League phase of the 2012 Rule 5 Draft. “Sobo,” as his friends and family know him, appreciates the opportunity. He works hard and takes nothing for granted. In December of 2011, he was diagnosed with melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Mark grew up in sunny South Florida. He graduated in the top 3% of his class at Sarasota High School where he played shortstop. He was selected by the Houston Astros in the 20th round of the 2006 Draft but did not sign. Instead, he played for the University of Miami, where he majored in Sports Administration. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Sobolewski in the fourth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and has been in the minors ever since. In 2012, he played 94 games with the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League, batting .262, with 18 HR and 51 RBI. He also played 23 games with the AAA Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific League, batting .188, with 2 HR, and 8 RBI. Sobolewski is currently playing third base with the AAA Rochester Red Wings. In 9 games, he is batting .182, with 1 HR, and 4 RBI. Barring an injury to Trevor Plouffe, it is unlikely that Sobolewski will make the big league club this year, but I’m looking forward to seeing some exciting play from the hot corner this summer at Frontier Field! I’ll be taking my sons to the ballpark quite a bit this season, and we will be rooting for Sobo, the player, and even more for Sobo, the man.
