  1. The only thing I don't like about these moves is that they should have happened a couple weeks ago. Better late than never!
  2. That certainly makes sense for a team with some depth and where you have that kind of flexibility. But right now none of our guys can seem to hit anything so I'm not sure it matters.
  3. I've never played or managed professional baseball, so I honestly don't know the answer to what might be a really stupid question...at this point would there be any advantage (or disadvantage) to setting a lineup and keeping it consistent for a couple weeks? I get that we're desperate to figure out a formula that works (though isn't that what spring training was for?) But in the meantime, I don't see these guys developing any rhythm and getting comfortable in their positions or place in the batting order when it's all just a revolving door. Things really can't get much worse at this point - what would be the downside of setting a lineup and sticking with it for a while, rather than fielding a different team every night?
  4. It's so tiring to hear Gardenhire, Vavra & the rest talk about 'accountability'. What a joke. There is no accountability in this organization, with the exception of Bill Smith getting demoted last year - that was a shocker. If there were any real accountability with the Twins, there would have been meaningful changes at the end of the 99-loss 2011 season. The only real changes were to give away one of our few reliable pitchers and the only leader we had in the clubhouse. And now here we are, a month into a new season and the team we thought was bad last year has somehow managed to get even worse - on pace to achieve the worst-ever record in the history of baseball. The Twins could clean house and it wouldn't matter what coaching staff came in as replacements - this team cannot get worse. They have become completely unwatchable, which is pretty bad coming from this die-hard fan.
  5. It was so great to see Pavano shake off that first inning and pitch the way he did after that. Defense looked sharper; and we had some productive offense...all in the same game! Let's hope the strong start is a sign of more to come the rest of the week in the Bronx!!!
  6. Why is Gardy always so quick to move other guys around - infielders, outfield, etc., in & out of the lineup...but when it comes to Morneau, if he's playing he bats 4th? Willingham belongs in that spot unless or until someone else earns it from him. It may be early in the season but every game counts - and when you're the Twins, every run counts at this point. Willingham consistently can get the ball out of the infield; he would have driven in far more runs at this point if not for all the double-plays Mauer & Morneau hit into every game. If last year doesn't matter, then neither do the MVP years before that; I love them as much as anyone, but Gardy should make the M & M boys earn their spots in the lineup.
  7. He's got no business batting 4th right now. If Morneau doesn't find his swing pretty soon, he'll earn himself a spot in the bottom of the order - not to say that's where Gardy will ever put him, but it's probably where he belongs (or on the bench, if he doesn't get back on the field.) I love the guy, but the past is the past. Rod Carew was an MVP once upon a time, too - doesn't mean he deserves a spot in the lineup today. The Twins need a DH and/or 1st baseman who can hit the ball out of the infield.
  8. Yes it was. Matt Capps has accomplished the seemingly impossible...making me long for the days of watching Edge-of-your-seat-Eddie.
  9. I agree that Perkins has probably earned another shot at starting; however, moving him would further weaken the bullpen. And given what we've seen of our starters so far, that just seems like a scary prospect to me. Much as I'd like to see them bring some help in from the outside, as long as the Twins are committed to 'rebuilding' mode, I can't imagine them making a meaningful investment in either the starting rotation or the 'pen. I'm afraid this season, what we've seen so far is what we get.
  10. I'm not looking for any flying helmets. But I'd like to see a smile once in a while, a spring in their step - something in their faces or their demeanor that suggests they're happy to be there and have at least a little confidence that they might be able to pull off a win in the major leagues. They play baseball for a living, for cryin' out loud - every little leaguer's dream. But these Twins don't look like they have much fun doing it. JMO.
  11. This fan's disappointment is less with the 0-4 start than it is with how the team seems to have picked up mentally and emotionally right where they left off last Sept. After finishing that dismal season with nearly 100 losses I somehow expected them to show up this year with a little more fire, a little energy right out of the gate - something to suggest they expect better of themselves for 2012. Sadly, despite a few new names & faces, it appears to be the exact same team - leading me to expect nothing more than a re-do of 2011.
  12. I'm not sure any new manager would bring more fans in - at least not directly. BUT a new manager could breathe some new life into this club - they're as stale as they were last Sept. and that needs to change or Target Field will be empty. They need someone to boost morale and get this squad to expect a little more of themselves. I thought the Twins let go of guys like Young, Thome, Cuddyer, Kubel & Nathan because they're 'rebuilding'...well, IMO that rebuilding needs to start at the top. The same old attitudes & philosophies aren't going to magically work on a new crop of players.
  13. This is my problem with Mauer. I love the guy and always have, and I have no problem with his contract because other teams would have paid him even more and I'd rather have him in a Twins uniform than any other. BUT - he's become too predictable at the plate. Opposing pitchers can't be very afraid of him anymore; its easy for them to get ahead in the count when they know exacatly what he's going to do every time. It's maddening to see him watch those 88mph fastballs down the middle of the plate every single first pitch; not saying he needs to swing at them all...but even once in a while might keep them guessing.
