Honestly 2 innings tells me little. 2Ks was nice. There are a lot of talented hitters in the GCL. Hoping that Stewart, Thorpe, and Gonclaves can make a nice trio of starting pitchers for them.

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Call up that Butera kid, he can hit homeruns. Pinto homered. Sano with a pinch hit double and Rosario 2/5. May gave up for runs in 6 innings but struck out 6 and walked 1... I think he's figuring out the control thing b/c he's drastically cut down on that walk rate of late..

Outside of one bad inning May pitched pretty well. Hopefully he can keep up these outings...less the one bad inning.
Steven Buhr Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Josue Montanez is quietly becoming a starting pitcher worth keeping an eye on in CR. He joined the rotation for the second half of the season and has been getting stretched out. Thursday, he threw 5 2/3 innings, gave up no runs, 3 hits (all singles), walked 2 and struck out 5. In his prior start, he threw 5 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits.

Honestly, with May I've been watching the walk rate more than anything else. That is drastically improving. A lot of the previous bad innings have been walk related and defense related. While I don't see the ML defense helping him out a ton (minus the OF where Hicks, Kepler, Arcia, and Buxton should be above average), he can control those walks, and of late he's been doing that.
