Congrats on winning your division and facing me in the 1st rd.  Lucky for you Stanton felt called out about my comments regarding the team limping into the playoffs.

haha thanks and yeah winning the division was probably not the best outcome (though i think i win an extra $25 for it?) considering i would've played jake's bravos had i finished in second place.

my team has been crushing the last month so i'll probably put up a stinker when it matters. good luck fending off my barrage of unlimited two-start crappy back-end-of-the-rotation pitchers.

I have found it surprisingly difficult to do anything in the loser's bracket.  You have one more rd of playoffs and so far the top 2 scores this week are in the loser's bracket instead of the championship bracket.  Good luck.

looks like our matchup is gonna go down to the wire, kirk. i have a nice lead but i see you're getting two starts out of norris and sale this week so that should close the gap (especially considering my only two-starters are kennedy and wada).

seems like we both got unlucky with pitchers getting leads/wins blown too. your closers were outstanding last week.

in other news, i'm obviously devastated that i dropped mike fiers. carried that guy all season long and let one shaky relief outing cloud my judgment. now he's just striking out everyone.

pulled a kab and was out of the country with limited access to the internet over the last couple weeks. was pleasantly surprised each night i was able to check in and was never completely comfortable until sale exited the game on sunday afternoon (i fully expected a no hitter or something crazy).

but yeah, things are going pretty well in team name world right now. hopefully i don't peak too soon like i did a few years back. what's better is that DEM and TR got upset so my road to the title got that much easier.

noah has been cruising through the playoffs too. buchholz looks like the guy i traded away a couple seasons ago so him + pineda makes for a pretty scary rotation.

a few months ago my mouse was hovering over the DROP button for shoemaker and i changed to hector santiago at the last second instead. good idea huh

About like me a couple weeks ago as Holt was in a huge slump.  Now he's hitting better, and he's going to have SS eligibility most likely for 2015.  That will be sweet!

I'm pretty happy with having an opportunity to win the consolation bracket.  My team's been buoyed mostly by renewed hitting and health, along with Bauer, Bucholz and Pineada.  While I think my team is still a ways away from a championship run, I hope to compete for a playoff spot in the winner's bracket, as my team as performed pretty similarly to many of the winner's brackets squad.

One thing I've learned is that it's easier to rebuild the farm than it is to acquire major league talent.  My offseason posture could be pretty aggressive again; though my prospects like Stewart and Frazier won't fetch premium value, though I think they could fetch much more value at some point next season.   There are a few teams though, that need total rebuilds (like my opponent in the finals, The Naturals), hopefully I can get some productive vets on the cheap.

Congrats, Mike, on the steam rolling so far, I shouldn't have doubted the moves you made in the offseason because your team is a juggernaut right now.

was REALLY pulling for Jake's Bravo's because 86ers has a ton of 2-start pitchers in the next two weeks. i've burned through all of my 2-start pitchers which has resulted in me picking up dylan axlerod and hoping for the best.

survived billy buck's two-starter overload week and now i'll just look to hold on for dear life as my pitchers are dropping like flies and the ones who are healthy are turning into pumpkins.

I don't think this is the first time that the championship has resulted in a low scoring battle.  Billy Buck got 2 shutouts this week and still hasn't done much.

I will see your Shoemaker and raise you a Greene (not actually a raise).  Where the hell do these guys come from?

barring an epic collapse that would be slightly more upsetting than the one 3 years ago, it looks like i have this wrapped up after a super clutch performance by kennedy. mccann also came up huge, so hat tip to kab for his part in that.

will probably look to get younger again this year and move guys like cano latos kennedy gardner and jannsen, so start thinking up offers!

good get and you killed discussions with one team that wanted one of my closers.  Someone will need a closer though.

My team has too much depth.  The only deals I can make are either a blockbuster or for prospects since I have good players not only starting but also backing up every position.  Of course I would love to get a better SS but that's a tough trade in any league.

I like the Soler side.  Segura is good now but not great.  Norris is a good arm but Soler could be an elite player.

Moving Soler was a brutal decision, but I read a report on him following 2013 that discussed a lot of his body actions and how they were going to mean him missing a lot of games.  The same place after 2014 says all those same actions are presented, he just had a rare healthy year, so his numbers look great, as they likely always will when he's on the field.

Segura I think is somewhere between 2013 and 2014, and Norris is arguably the best lefty in the game and has already hit AAA this early in his career.  I figured I'd take that move all day.  I had two solid trade offers and chose the Norris one over other ones because he's closer to the majors and still has that elite level talent

I originally drafted Soler (twice, actually), and I had similar health concerns about him and decided I could afford to move him last offseason.  I probably sold low.  I can't remember how you acquired him, but you got better value than I did (Josh Hamilton).  That you got two players, one at the middle infield, certainly minimizes your risk.

I just traded for Reddick; I think I bought pretty low.  Colome is a nice arm, but he's already 25 and isn't slated for the rotation.

I'm looking forward to the minor league draft.  Should be interesting to see how people value the international guys vis-a-vis the drafted guys.

Any thoughts on the upcoming Minor League Draft?  I think this should be one of the more interesting ones with all the international signings, cuban defections, and draftees.  I think there's a potential for lots of good 'specs to slip.

I've got three of them, and this one probably has the most immediate impact.  I'm very curious how guys rate draft picks vs. international signees in this league.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but you can pick a guy who isn't signed, correct?

That's correct, however, if they don't sign before opening day, you forfeit the pick and player.  That happened to me with Soler whom I drafted in the second round hoping he'd sign before the season; he didn't so I lost him and he was available in the following draft.

If Mancada doesn't sign before the draft, it will be interesting to see how far he slips.

I also wonder how people will weigh the different groups of players, there's quite of a few international guys that may not be on people's radar that may have as much projection as the drafted guys...

I don't see a lot of value of picking the best int'l (16 yr old) FA's until rd 2 or 3.  Unless they are a more of a Sano level signee.  They might have projection but they also have huge bust rates and they take forever to even get to full season ball.  Except for the odd guy that just crushes it.

This is another good draft.  Even at pick 17 I think I will end up with a good prospect.

agree with kab that you should stay away from those 16 year old intl "superstars in the making"

bit the bullet on two of those in first 5 rounds of the inaugural draft - angel villalona and yorman rodroguez. apparantly those "can't misses" miss sometimes after all!

people also go crazy over prospects in this league so if you get a college guy who throws a few good games people will trip over themselves giving you their team for him.

just last year i think kab and i went back to back puig and wacha and iirc we both got really awesome value. so if you go the intl route it has to be someone who is ML ready like puig, tanaka, etc.

Posted

I usually take a 16 yr old in the 3rd rd with what is basically a throw away pick.  Usually you have to wait 2 years before they even play short season ball.  And then it's a couple more years before they are in AA (if they are fast tracked).  I grabbed Minier in this league off FA probably 2 years after he signed and a year later I'm still waiting for him to get to A ball.  Thorpe moved a little quicker though.  It's almost better to wait until one of the top 50 int'l signees start creating a little buzz.

I'm interested to see how high the other Cuban, Korean and Japanese signees go.  Moncada and Tomas could go top ten but the others will go considerably lower.
