Braxton Garrett is a 6'3", 190 lb. pitcher from Florence High School in Alabama who is the second best prep lefty in the class, behind only Jay Groome. Garrett sits in the 91-94 miles per hour range with his fastball, a curveball which is the best in this year's draft, and an above average changeup. Braxton has an advanced feel for pitching, and his control is better than most pitchers, making him one of the most polished arms available, even though he is only eighteen. His delivery is not full of effort, and he repeats it well, plus his strong body should hold up well as a starter. The Vanderbilt commit is represented by Scott Boras, so there are multiple reasons why he might be a tough sign, but teams that do not have small pools should be able to get a deal done. Lefties with Garrett's poise do not come around very often, and his pitching reminds scouts of Clayton Kershaw. The Twins have been linked to Garrett this spring, yet his high price tag could scare them away, but if he is still available at #15 they would be fools to pass.
