Thank you for bringing in another voice from the other side, Ted.

For the waning number of fans complaining about the “Cheap Pohlads”, the Miami Marlins perspective is that the Twins spend much more on payroll. Therefore, the Twins were able to resign Pablo Lopez (where Miami would not).

MN_ExPat reacted to D.C Twins in Twins Minor League Report (9/14): Randy Dobnak Breaks Saints' Single-Season Strikeout Record
Dobnak has worked hard to return and is by all accounts a pillar of the community.
I'm sure that he would like better results, but I for one could not be happier for him that he got the contract that he did and has maximized his talents.
I would not be surprised if he finds his way into a few spot starts in the MLB next season.
Lee and Martin and Servino... oh my! Severino is only 23 by the way.

MN_ExPat got a reaction from cmoss84 in The Unbelievable Success of Walker Jenkins at Just 18 Years Old
In HS my son told me "2-0 changeups are why I have trust issues".
(There is a very good reason why he is pitching in college and hasn't picked up a bat in years )

MN_ExPat reacted to Dman in Twins Minor League Report (9/12): Kernels Begin Midwest League Playoffs
Yeah he goes through stretches like this all the time. I don't know if he tries too hard and over thinks instead of reacts or what the deal is, but when he is in a funk his bat cannot find the ball and it is generally ugly at bat after ugly at bat.. The Kernals had the league OPS leader up with the bases loaded in the 9th. He was the dream player to be up in that situation but mighty Casey did not get it done last night.
On the bright side he will get other chances in the next game and hopefully he will be seeing the ball better. Home stadiums can cure a lot of ills and the Kernals have been good at home.

Jenkins is good at making contact. I don't think I have seen a bat like him since maybe Joe Mauer (another tough guy to strike out). Agree the sample size is too small to gain much insight and there are a lot of challenges ahead, but he is off to a really good start and those are hard to come by for 18 year old's in their first year. Really happy to see him doing so well and hope he becomes a star player in time.

I was at a scouting combine years ago and had an opportunity to talk with Matt Nokes...asked him any tips for hitting good curveballs. He told me, "yeah...don't miss the fastballs."

When does the fall instructional camp start? I would guess that might be more valuable to any of the drafted players.

Seth et al. Thanks for another season of minor league reports. Best part of the site for me.
Is it just me, or does this look like an absolutely ferocious draft class? If we had only gotten Jenkins, I think it would still be a success, but there are just SO many promising dudes in our class. This could be such a boon for this farm system!

Meanwhile, Luke Keaschall is looking VERY good. Didn't know much about him before the draft, but he is looking like a great pick.

MN_ExPat reacted to DJL44 in Twins Minor League Report (9/10): Keaschall Provides Power for Kernels
He had nearly a month where he contributed positively in the bullpen in the major leagues. I didn't think that would happen. I expected he would pitch himself off the roster and end up in some other organization by July. He hasn't been a "ranked" prospect in quite a while.

I don’t know what more Jenkins could have done.

Sawyer Gipson-Long started for the Tigers today. Went 5 innings, gave up 2ER struck out 5 didn't walk anybody. Got the win. It was his major league debut.
Good for that young man.

Danny De Andrade was not in the Mussels lineup today. Maybe he's moving up to the Kernels.

Why not promote Jenkins to play more? Great debut either way!

Yeah ... I don't think there is a rush to add Paddack until after the season is over. But Stewart, who is supposed to be back sometime this month ... who gets DFA'd to make room? And when MAT returns? Can either Luplow or Stevenson be sent down? Are there other pitchers who could be DFA'd? So, yeah ... this is now becoming a discussion for the 'Roster moves/crunch' thread.

MN_ExPat reacted to stringer bell in Twins 8, Mets 4: Two Out Hits Beat the Mets Again, Maeda Bounces Back in Win
Reality is that teams very seldom have everyone going good. Rookies Julien and Wallner have cooled right now while other guys have warmed up. Aside from his batting average, Wallner's numbers look good right now, but if the slump (and the Ks) continue, he might find somebody else playing left field.
Maeda is certainly not as sharp as he was when he returned from the IL. He is on the outside looking in to get a start in postseason, but he does have experience out of the 'pen. I hope he throws zero high leverage innings in the first round, but every inning could be important.

I was at the game and was a bit disappointed not to see Lewis, Julien, Kepler, or Kiriloff take the field top of the first. Royce did bat as DH, of course, and the big hits came from Solano, Farmer, Castro, and Kepler. Another win for the Front Office’s depth moves. Another really fun game!

This is not completely true. Players not on the 40 man roster can be added to a playoff roster via request to the league if they are replacing an an injured player. A request to the league has never been rejected in these cases.

This is just speculation, but sometimes writers sprinkle in a little levity to keep things from becoming pedantic (as statistics sometimes do). My suggestion (as I believe the author did) would be to lighten up.
