because that was the correct baseball play to make. it wasn't over grossman's head, he should have caught the ball.

i'd love to hear more about your apparent insight into these deals that the front office can swing to fix the pitching. as we all know, late april/early may trades are HUGE in baseball. they happen so often, i can hardly keep up with it all.  please share your insights into which organization is going to trade high level, effective left handed relievers less than 20 games into the season, i'm sure all the other teams in the league would also be interested in knowing

Are there many left handed relief pitchers, on bad teams, that are good and available?

I guess Twins' fans don't really care about cheaters, and welcome them when it suits. I should know, as I am one.
I hope Correa performs to his best level, and he should be motivated, as he is really looking for the long term deal. Probably a 1 season Visitor.
I hope he and Buxton have a 2022 that makes it tough to decide who gets the vote for 2022 MVP.
Personally, I would rather have had the $ spent on top of the line pitching, Story, kept Garver, no Sanchez, no proud cheaters, and am happy to not have Pineda available. But I encourage Pohlad to spend that money, and have some fun before he dies. It is only money, and one can only really use so much. May as well compete with the Mets and Dodgers and spend.
Montas was a PED suspended pitcher (80 days, June 2019, for Osterine - which, of course, was a mistake as they all say), too.
It seems character is not so important for the clubhouse, or fans, after all. I don't really mind. It should make for an interesting season, and much more anticipated than yesterday.
I still don't believe it. I'll check in the morning to see if it is still true that Correa is the new shortstop.

Great move  , liked Garver but getting a Gold Glove type SS that can hit respectably and steal bases.. Every day and on Sunday.
    Now the pitching...

I am with the ones who like the trade for many of reasons stated.  Good baseball trade for both teams.  Really like Kiner-Falefa's glove and speed.  Bonus, he can be the emergency 3rd catcher too.  Goodbye Turtle for sure.  I'm pretty confident that Jeffers and Rortvedt will be fine too.  I am thinking too that adding an excellent fielding SS won't hurt in trying to sign free agent pitchers.  Especially with SS being a black hole for coming season without trade.  Lastly, with coming rule change in 2023 limiting shifts middle infield defense with range becomes more important.

Hey,  we all loved the Garver story.  But we traded from a position of semi/strength to a position of dire need.  Garver has had his share of injuries and is not getting any younger so I think from a risk standpoint we come out ahead.  Also, since we have IKF for two years,  that should be plenty of time to see if our ss of the future is in the system.  If not, there is the possibility of extending him at his 29 year old season.  My opinion is that this was a well thought out option.  But I guess, only the future will tell if it was a good trade or not.

Well, the team didn't want Polanco or Gordon as the principal shortstop. That makes sense to me. I would have liked to see one of the premium shortstops come to Minnesota, but among the trade candidates, I kind of like what Kiner-Falefa has to offer. This club has too many bat-first sluggers and they apparently have included Garver in that category. I haven't liked Garver's defense and the club hasn't used him often at DH or first base. How many games would he play if he was healthy all season? 100 or 110? What are the chances that he will avoid injury, including concussion? Kiner-Falefa has been durable, played plus defense at short and third, and he makes contact--a totally different player from Garver (and many other Twins). Kiner-Falefa will be 27 this month so there might be room for improvement offensively. I'm hoping that he plays as good defensively as Simmons and provides much more hitting and on the base paths than the Twins got last year.

Sad to see Garver go, a fan favorite and giving up the highest upside player in a trade gives heartburn.

You’re talking about a guy though who has never had more than 359 plate appearances in a big league season. Prone to injury and slumps, probably best suited to be a high level part time player. At age 31 it’s probably appropriate to move him for the right fit.

IKF is younger, more versatile and plays a position of greater need. If Royce Lewis pans out he can transition into a very valuable “multi-position everyday player” which the Twins seem to value. Henriquez is a nice get also, can never have too much pitching depth.

I think the following dates were probably very significant in Falvine's decision process:
    1/15/1991, 6/3/1997, and 9/25/1997
These are the birthdates of Garver, Jeffers, and Rortvedt, respectively. I think it's reasonable to project significant improvement from Jeffers and Rortvedt. I think it's also reasonable to project Garver's trade value as not increasing beyond the present. So I'm not too distressed about choosing to trade Garver now.
As to whom we have received in return, I don't know much. I choose to hope for the best.

Garver and Jeffers were a particularly bad platoon mix and Rortvedt is a stellar backup catcher going forward imo. I really like him behind the plate. Garver is quite a guy and a great bat, but injuries/age....

But, Garver only has 2 more years of team control (same as Kiner-Falefa). And he’s already 31 years old. That looks like “short FA contract” value, rather than good trade value.

May be in the minority here, but I like this deal for a number of reasons.  First, it improves our infield defense as Kiner-Falefa is a gold glove worthy defender at SS.  It allows allows Polanco to remain at 2B, where he proved to be much better last season.  Second, Kiner-Falea adds a component to our offense thats been missing for years-----SPEED.  I believe Kiner-Falefa will only improve on his 20 SBs from last season being a legit 20-25 SB threat for years to come.  Projecting Polanco to build on his SB improvement combined with what Buxton can provide---thats 75 SBs that could aid this offense this season.  This team, imo, has to revamp its offensive strategy moving forward as the loss of Cruz, now Garver and next year with Donaldson departing necessitates a change. Finally, the durability of Kiner-Falefa (158 GP last season) is an upgrade.  As much as I liked (and still do) Garver, you can't ignore that FACT that he only played in 184 of 384 games (47.9%) over the last 3 seasons.  Knowing the propensity of Baldelli not to overwork his catchers, I see the FO bringing in a veteran free agent ( Stephen Vogt or Kurt Suzuki) to platoon with Jeffers as I don't believe Rortvedt's bat has proven he can regular ABs.

I'm going to chime in and agree with you here.
Mitch Garver is 31 years old - if the Twins were going to get anything for him, it would probably have to be now. They may believe his best years are behind him. Don't forget that Garver had some absolutely miserable slumps for this team, including a horrific 2020 that saw him start the year 1-for-40 or something ridiculous like that. His value at this time last year was much lower than it is now. In short, I don't think Garver is as good as most people here think he is.
Kiner-Falefa is 27, can play SS and 3B and is a monster upgrade over Simmons. The Twins must think that Jeffers/Rortvedt is the answer at C, which is a big gamble but you have to gamble sometimes when you're a GM.
Mark me down for liking this trade.
