That is a fun exercise because it points out that we are a last place team if this is the reality for 2022.  Kc and Detroit would love it,

That looks like a pretty rugged starting team. The middle infield would be weak defenders, Larnach starting in Minnesota instead of St Paul. The rotation period.
I could easily see quite a bit of shuffling before the season got to old. But I don't see anything better either ready to start the season. They'll need a steady bus service from the minors.

I agree with the statement that Robertson or Beckham on the Roster would be less than ideal. I also agree with Dman on the Palacios choice as I have made similar comments to other to other discussion topics. Palacios is rated as the best infield defender and best infield arm in the system, as well as showing power last season.

If we are adding someone to the 40 man Roster I would rather it be Palacios who has a decent glove can play shortstop and has shown power.  Why in the world this FO likes to ignore there own guys boggles my mind sometimes.  At any rate Palacios would be my vote unless the Twins do ultimately find something that makes more sense on the FA market.

I think Ryan is still prospect Eligible so likely coming up soon.  I think Strotman is likely out of the top 10 as he is in the teens on most lists I have seen.  Still your point stands and I too am encouraged with the quality of the pitchers coming up.  Most have mid 90's fastballs and plus secondary's so I am optimistic as well..

#10, 9, 8 and 7 are all promising pitchers. And there are 6 more spots to go, which will surely contain three more pitchers (Strotman, Caterino and Balazovic).  I like it. 7 out of the top 10 prospects will be promising pitchers. Plus, neither Ober nor Ryan are eligible for this prospect list.  That means, my friends, that the Twins have at least nine young, good, promising pitchers...some of whom can really throw heat. What are the odds that 50% will pan out to be useful major league pitchers?  What are the odds that 2 of the 9 will become healthy, long-term starters? This group of pitchers is what I was hoping for when Derek Falvey and Thad Levine were hired. Thanks FO. Plus Lewis, Martin and Miranda will all be productive major leaguers for years to come. I am very optimistic for the Twins future. Especially IF, and these are 3 huge IF's, Lewis can quickly become 1) an above average, major league fielding SS, 2) an average hitter and 3) a team leader.

    Great reading, Nick, thanks.
Don't recall seeing the term, "modular pitching staff" anywhere before.  Is that your term?  Or is it being used around baseball?
Whether it is once thru the lineup (2-to-3 innings) or twice (4-5 innings), something like this makes sense.  Not certain how the numbers work with limits of 13 pitchers.  Is that limitation still in place?  Or won't we know until the CBA is signed?
Would also think that if you had pairs of pitchers piggy-backed to hopefully get 7 innings, you would still need at least five guys in the bullpen to close out most games.  If these pitchers are pitching 3 or 4 innings a game, would they be available every fourth day, rather than every fifth?  If they were, you could have 8 of them and 5 traditional relievers to close out games.
Can certainly see Duran being effective in this type of role this year.  Expect he will begin at St Paul, assuming major league players begin the season anywhere.

I think the idea would be for him is a bulk pitcher,  about 4 innings 3 times every two weeks.  That might limit the stress.  You are talking a max of 80 pitches while he builds back his arm strength.  Whether he does that in St. Paul or with the Twins is TBD.

Not much to say that wasn't already said in the article. He hasn't played much the last two years so it is really hard to say just where he is at. Like the OP just hoping for a healthy season at this point.  If that arm does return healthy and he can start that would be the best case scenario as he does seem to have special stuff.

Nice thing about having a number of starters closer to the majors than SWR, we don't have to cut short his development time. So if he breaks in as a reliever in late 2023 and forces someone else out of the rotation, I think that's a good thing.

yep. Personally, I have high hopes for him, but yes, his development definitely got side-tracked. Was also very impressed with him in Seth's talk with him

Seems like a good kid. Well spoken. It should be fun to see a lineup with Buxton, Martin & Lewis driving pitchers crazy even if it is 2 years away. With maybe Julien and Gordon too.

I really enjoyed the cut in tickets prices and beer due to all the cuts baseball made last year. I would expect similar if not higher cuts inn ticket prices this year.

I think the more he pitches the more we learn of his true game speed. He may throw 100 mph 3-4 times a game, but average closer to 95-96. With a good slider and changeup that would make him a top of the rotation possibility.

If he shows up as a late season callup in 2025, we should all be glad.

Of course, he needs to stay healthy and throw innings.

Picture he will stay in instructional ball to start 2022 and probably pitch in short season, just so they can watch him  make adjustments. Although having the low-A team also in Ft. Myers can be for his benefit. Petty will get a call-in there if the opportunity arises.
2023 is still all Ft. Myers so they can watch and work with him. If he shines, look for him to make a game jump to high-A or even AA JUST TO FACE SOME OLDER TALENT.

2024 he WILL SPEND THE SEASON AT HIGH-A BALL.

2025 HE WILL SPEND THE SEASON AT AA BALL.

Sadly he will probably need Tommy John surgery or something like that right when the Twins need to consider adding him to the 40-man.

But, if not, the Twins MIGHT see him on the major league roster in 2026, as he would probably have been added to the 40-man in the off-season.

Vut he will spend most of the time at AAA ball, unless he has refocused into a bullpen arm by then.

That means the Twins, under current MLB contracts, would have control of him up into the 2032 season.

But I can only wonder "What If" he shines and comes to the majors at age 21 or 22.
