gman got a reaction from sploorp in Article: Who's Number One?: Minnesota's Top Prospect
Like most number 1's, I don't think it matters much who is. Could be 6-8 different players. I see a lot of talented players rising to the major league roster over the next 2-4 years and looking forward to their impact on a 85 win team.

Way too early for me to even think about this, since I do most of my prospect work in December and January when there are enough moves made, but my #1 last season was Wander Javier and hitting .299/.383/.471 in the Appy League as an 18 year old, did not hurt himself. Royce Lewis might be close or overtake him. Not sure yet, but these guys will likely be #1 and #2 in some order, pending transactions.

From the article: "For Falvey and his general manager Thad Levine, the goal is to unseat the current Central champs by following a similar path, but skipping the stagnation."
Why is skipping the stagnation the goal? I thought building a winning organization for the long term was Falvey and Levine's goal.
Pushing hard this offseason, spending dollars and prospects to try to close the HUGE gap between the Twins and the Indians seems like folly. Yes, it may get us a few more wins this year and next but it could also diminish what we can do in a couple of years.
Signing a mid-tier starting and adding a few bullpen pieces - isn't that exactly what TR would do?
We need a system that wins. Yes, some fans may want the chips pushed in because of 1 winning season, but we are 10-15 wins below where we need to be. Adding a few pitchers will not do this. Having a system that creates this players and supplements them with a few additional players can do this. So if the FO decides to "tread water" for a year or two while building the system, I don't blame them.
As a very few others have noted, my expectation is that they find starters that don't excite but can develop into starters that do excite. This will take some time.

IMO, Rooker appears to be ready for Chattanoonga next year. I hope he gets off to great start and makes the Twins late in 2018. Or even early would be good too. Any chances he plays in Arizona this fall?
P.S. I would put him at first base whereever he plays.

It's disappointing to realize the regular minor league season ends in about 1 week
Saw Curtiss pitch in his ML debut yesterday (on TV). He's listed as the #19 prospect. Hildenberger and Busenitz are not listed at all. Can't wait to see the good relievers make it. Hopefully 2018.

I give them an A for effort, an A+ for trying different things and an A+++ for willingness to move on from failed decisions and recognizng when things just aren't working.

Looks like Rooker has come on strong after his initial adjustment period in Ft Myers. He has 20 rbi's in 29 AB's with runners in scoring position.
Also very good to see Tyler Jay back on the mound.

Seriously?
I get so tired of this sentiment. Sano may not be Brooks Robinson. But he made a spectacular play last night, and he's made significant improvements in his defense versus last year. He works hard at it, and wants to be a good player. As he showed last night, and on many other occasions, he can make seriously good plays over there. Give him time.
He's only 24 years old. This is his first full season in the majors playing third base. He can definitely. And his best value is as a third baseman, period.
That's also the best option for the Twins, who can get a number of people to play first base -- you know, like the aforementioned Rooker, or Alex Kiriloff. I doubt anybody in the minors in the Twins' system, not Nick Gordon, not Wander Javier, not Royce Lewis, has the hitting potential that Sano has and is showing.
People shouldn't be so quick to put Sano at first base or designated hitter.

VERY impressed by the front office this last 2 weeks. Truly maximized return.
This team has a super exciting future but the were never, never, never, never, never......deep breath.....never a playoff team this year (and most likely next year)....
BUT I believe this FO is building toward sustained success cerca 2019-1-2023.....good on them

gman reacted to nicksaviking in Article: Twins Trade Kintzler To Nationals
This front office made their bed in March. Everyone knew the rotation and bullpen in place weren't capable of making the playoffs and any reasonable mind could see there were too many holes to fix in season to make them worthy.
And that speaks nothing of a lineup that can't adjust when the other team's bullpen enters the game. This was always a trial and error evaluation year.
Glass half full: the Twins made it fun to watch for four months.
Glass half empty: they teased us with unsustainable hope for four months.
Frankly, if they start calling up some of the young pitchers, I'm going to enjoy watching even if they get their clocks cleaned.

The Twins didn't enter this past off-season with 'a few holes,' they entered it with no pitching staff and issues with some position players as well. They had no realistic chance to build a contender through a combination of free agency and trades. The fact that they over-performed early in the year doesn't change the fact that it's a subpar team that lacks the core to be a contender . . . no amount of complimentary pieces would have changed that.

I'm not sure I'd keep Rosario over Kepler, but I really like Rosario,
Eddie has been improving this year while Max is posting stats this year that are a modest increase from last year.
The chants to trade, or even DFA (yes, they've been posted here on TD), Rosario are difficult for me to understand. For some reason the improvements he makes don't seem to count.
He's like the Mitch Garver of the MLB Twins.
