The only problem I have with trading Sano if he has a hot start is, why would you trade him if he has a hot start? We've waited 6 years for him to have a hot start. He may be a better DH than any other position, but we're not getting rid of the DH rule and we'll need a good slugger in the middle which I think he will be.

The plus is: He is a starter and just needs the work, even if limited to 3-4 inning starts to begin his season. But this is the type of guy that will be hurt more with the lockout (not to mention any other arm prospect on the 40-man), since they have to go thru a training period before even reporting to Triple-A, which means they will get screwed on development when the major league club is trying to get the north 26 play.

Balazovic and Strotman will start at St. Paul, but again , pushed back. Duran, Sands and Vallimont might all start, sadly, at AA ball. What a mess.

Not to mention if Jax is a rotation or bullpen arm for the Twins.

Players already hurt by a non-esixtent 2020 are getting killed with any lockout.

Major league baseball is a broken broken mess...money rules.

Do we know anything about his 'shoulder injury' that should concern us?  Or was it more of a tired shoulder due to his not pitching an inning in 2020?
There is no question in my mind that he should be ranked higher than #10.  I see him as the best pitching prospect the Twins have, albeit, Canterino and Balazovic may have slightly higher ceilings.  But Winder is getting downgraded because of his last few starts at St. Paul where he likely was pitching with whatever was wrong with that shoulder.
Watched a lot of his starts at Wichita last year.  Also watched many of those by Balazovic.  Yes, Balazovic was unhittable, except when he wasn't.  Winder was just so bloody consistent that I kept thinking he could become another Brad Radke.  Not the same type of pitcher, but similar results.  We can hope, can't we?

Very nice writeup!! If healthy I see him as the pitching prospect most likely to debut in the Twins rotation this year.  His main competition would be Balazovich IMO but with Winder WHIP\ability to throw strikes he still looks the most ready.  Certainly Sands and Strotman could have something to say about that if Strotman harnesses control and Sands stays healthy they could be in the mix as well just more ifs with those two.  Other guys might be ranked higher but he looks the most ready to me.

I am hoping he dominates in spring training (if we have one) and starts with the Twins rotation.  Time to see what he has.  And hope the arm issues were minor.

Well yeah. I'm no bigger fan of this lackluster offseason than anyone else. But I'm also not ready to trade away good hitters "just because".

The Twins could get a better A-ball lottery ticket for him at the trade deadline after they've paid off half his salary. He could be a "Plan B" for a contender who needs to fill in for injured players. Sano's trade value is negative now but should rise as the season goes on and his contract gets smaller.

I'd keep Sano. He's affordable. Last year was an incredibly down year offensively around the league which sorta made his season look worse than it was. He had a pretty bad start to the season but was a legit slugger in the second half. He's not going to be the bat we dreamed about after his rookie year but he should still be a strong middle of the order bat to go with Kiriloff, Donaldson, Garver.

There's going to be 8-10 teams looking to acquire a DH, There will not be 8-10 hitters available better than Sano, cheaper than Sano ($/prospect cost). 8-10 teams can't sign Cruz (who just got really expensive). Suddenly Sano's buyout/option year got a whole lot cheaper relatively speaking.
It looks like the Twins have a glut of DHs and need to make room for Kiriloff at First, but we've seen this show before. I'd trade Sano only if they get a good return, not to offload him. I doubt they get a good return, probably just a flier, and I wouldn't advocate for that.

The Twins should only trade expensive players if they plan to spend that money elsewhere and there's no indication they plan to do that given how they acquired zero good starters before the lockout.
And if they're not going to pay for pitching, they should go ahead and keep their good hitters in hopes they can slug their way to some victories.

I like this group a lot. But I suspect I'm going to be saying that a lot throughout this series.
I'm very intrigued by Hajjar and his projectability. I'm going to have to believe that with his frame, and some tweaks by coaching, his velocity is going to sit consistently in the mid 90's with sustainability. I guess my question is just how good is his curve, or how good can it be? Would he be better off altering to to more of a power slurve instead?
I feel bad for Enlow, as I would anyone who undergoes TJ. If there's a silver lining I guess it would be that he's still quite young and looked like he was starting to really figure some stuff out. They say control is the last thing to come around following TJ. Here's hoping he finds it quickly enough to be at AA come 2023, if not the end of this year.
I'm rather enamored by both Steer and Julien. With all due respect to Arraez, who I love, and Gordon who I think has a chance to carve out a solid career as a super-utility player with speed, Steer and Julien could both be even better options and relatively soon if they keep on their current trajectory. Really hoping Steer has enough glove to be a legitimate bench SS, as well as 2B/3B. Looks like Julien could play 3 infield spots and LF. They offer a mix of positional flexibility and a mix of power and speed that could make them semi-regulars. (Especially Julien? Could he be a top of the order presence on a daily basis?)
Hard to not be excited about Rodriguez as not yet 19yo, already with a year under his belt, and possessing defense, OB ability and power. He seems to have a solid approach as his walks and XB power show. Now he just needs greater consistency.
And just to comment further on Strotman, he's not old, but not a kid. But TJ and 2020 robbed him of 2yrs. That isn't his fault or a lack of development. Again, control takes a little while to get back post TJ. And his control in 2021 wasn't great for sure. But the velocity is there and seemingly some solid secondary stuff. I think he ran out of gas after the Twins got him. He might end up in the pen. And a few of our arms are going to. But I still think he's got a shot at the rotation at some point this year.

A .364 OBP is pretty solid plate discipline for a guy who hit .214. And at the age of 18 in his first ever professional season. Also, it was a 37 game sample size. Let's settle down a little. A large part of prospect ranking is projection. Looking at tools and guessing what future performance might be. Crushing a kid who should have still been in high school for having some initial strike out issues against professional pitchers seems a little ridiculous. As @roger points out, he was signed during the international signing period in 2019 and had no 2020 season. The 10 HRs and 23 BBs in 37 games was quite promising.

I agree with your assessment about so many players having too much swing and miss in their game, but in Rodriguez's case, he is still very young.  It is not unusual for a 17-18 year old player to be anxious and overly aggressive.  Plus, he has some knowledge of the strike zone as witnessed by his ability to draw some walks.  In his case, I think there is reason to believe that his strike outs will go down as he matures.  Clearly his power is phenomenal.  At this stage of his career, it is all about projection, but the skills are there for him to be special.

I am reluctant to jump on the band wagon, but do appreciate the profile.  We have had so many SS prospects that just did not make it into the bigs and from HS to MLB is a long road to travel.  If he does it I will be really happy, but until I see a couple minor league seasons I cannot become as enthusiastic as many of you prospect listers.  We once saw Polanco as the SS of the future and now their is weeping and gnashing when he is suggested for playing there again.
WIth all the anticipation of Lewis we keep reading he might not be a SS, same with Austin Martin.  We drafted Gordon high and SS might be his best position, but is not good enough for the major leagues.  miracleb mentioned Levi Michaels.  Wander Javier seemed to flame out, Cavaco is all promise and no results.  I remember when we brought up Palacios way to young, way to early and yet it looked like a sign - which of course meant he went away and then we got him back as a minor league free agent.  Thus my reservation about SS excitement.
Thanks for the enthusiasm, now keep us informed as he progresses.

I would much prefer to see the Twins use Ryan, Ober, Jax, Dobnak, Bundy, Winder, Balazovic & Duran in the rotation as much as possible then sign some pitchers who are more get through the season types rather than building blocks. I rather see rookies pitch, fail & learn for the year and build towards a solid 2023/24 rotation that can provide consistency and become a real strength for a change. We never will get a solid rotation through free agency.

gman got a reaction from TopGunn#22 in What Does Max Kepler Have to Prove in 2022?
Kepler has not played like a full time regular the past couple of years. A platoon with Rooker or Celestino, a pair of right handed hitters, might give the Twins good coverage in one corner spot. Use Larnach or Kirilloff to cover the other corner. Kepler might also come in as a late defensive replacement if the situation warrants it.
Kepler has never been consistently strong against lefties and after 6 years in the majors he doesn't appear to be able to make the adjustments. Some guys can't. People want to dream on 2019 as if that was the expected Kepler, but it really hasn't been.

Baseball America rates Winder as the Twins 6th best prospect. "His fastball  sits at 95 and touches 98. With grades of 60 for his slider and changeup, along with a 50 grade for 12-6 curveball."
Seems like pretty good stuff to follow 55 command. Considering his age and the way the seasons have turned out the past couple of years, I would prefer he uses his innings available this year for the Twins. He'll be a rookie so I would expect some failure but by the middle of the year we'll have a lot better idea.

I see Gordon as a better utility player, it doesn't look than Beckman isn't any better than Gordon at SS, even worse. Yes we now have more depth but what is that quality of depth. But he has some power, to some that's all that matters. I'd rather Palacio have more time in spring training. IMO it's counter productive even more than Garlic because SS is more crucial. We need a real glove to help out our needy pitching

All 3  lost time due to injury last year and all 3 lost the entire 2020 covid year. If all 3 are healthy this year would make our entire system look that much stronger. Since (hopefully) 5-6 players will graduate to the big club this year, I think there will be room in the rankings. I don't mind other players passing them in the rankings, if they are truly better.
