Hopefully Alcala is healthy.  He would be a very good addition next year.

Sign him as the potential starting third baseman and security blanket. If others show up healthy and playing well, then he could be moved next year at the trade deadline. If he's the worst player on your roster then you're in good shape.

I’d sign him for one year for depth and see how the year plays out. Maybe he could be a trade trip mid summer if Lewis is ready.

Miranda will be the Twins starting third baseman in 2023. He is one of our most durable players, hardly ever getting a day off. His bat has to be in the lineup. He has to improve a lot at 3B but he won't do that by taking another year off and playing 1B and DH, which we don't really have room for if Buxton needs to be there often. Hopefully, Kirilloff is at first base. If not, Arraez will be there.
The Twins play Gordan at SS in emergencies this year so I don't think that is an option for Urshela. I see a sign and trade happening for Urshela.

I hope he gets 3-4 good innings in this year and go home for the winter with a good feeling with the experience. I'd like to see him get 75-100 innings next year with the Twins.

Why should there be a crunch in the 40 man roster? Do you really want to keep Jake Cave on there? Sano? Thielbar? Archer, even Sanchez? C'mon. There has to be minor leaguers better than them. And cheaper too. And what does "ready" really mean? Prospect lists come and go and some of those on the team now doing ok were never top 10 prospects. If a player is that good, then play him. If not, then ????

I still have high hopes for these 3 but I would feel better if they weren't 25, 25, and 26 and have done something to establish themselves already and the backups weren't Cave, Celestino and Gordon.

Don't count out Celestino. He's younger than this trio and has the best glove.

I've spent a lot of time lately railing on the Twins for blaming their failures on factors out of their control. And I stand by that - a winning team should make its own luck. But, my goodness, the vengeful spirit of those Target Field displaced outfield evergreen trees is fierce. It took out Buxton's career, and then it came for Kirilloff and Larnach. Get a team of exorcists out there pronto. And somebody put some kind of protective amulet around Wallner's neck when he's playing. Sheesh.

Good! He's had a fine season and has to be added to the 40 man once the season is done. Why not now and get a taste of the bigs?
    Awesome!

At SS? The Astros decided to rely on a rookie who'd never stepped foot on a major league field before instead of extending Carlos Correa. Or are we just going to ignore that?
The Astros were/are trying to win the World Series, could have afforded Carlos Correa, but didn't extend him before or during last season. So, by your breakdown of options, they're a "driftless (sic) team." So, yeah, I'm going to stick with you just manufacturing things to be mad about because you dislike the FO and want to pile on another thing they screwed up when the reality of the situation is this is playing out the exact same way that multiple situations play out as each and every season in every major sport in America. I notice you skipped all the other examples I laid out of situations playing out the same way last year, and this very season with players at his very position.

When he signed the contract... his opting out was a foregone conclusion. Nothing surprising here.
Yet... a reporter (who should have already known the answer to the question he was asking) stuck a microphone in his face and asked him what the Twins could do to keep him.
Carlos answered the question honestly with a very apt analogy of how free agency works.
The responses in this thread are once again another example of honesty being punished by us.

I just really, really, really want a pitcher with the nickname "Jordy Blaze" to have a successful career here. It takes too much hope to be a Twins fan these days, but I've still got some left in the tank for both Martin and Balazovic.

Thank you for writing an article based on positives. Too many articles on this site are based on moaning and bitching and looking for someone to blame. Even most of the responses to this article are nothing but complaining. Even I am complaining about all the bitching.
There were a lot of things that were positive. These Twins were picked to finish third in this division this year. They may finish second. They built 80% of a good pitching staff. Ryan, Ober & Winder with perhaps Varland, look like they can be strong solid starters. Miranda and Wallner can add middle of the order bats. Gordan appears to have found himself. Adding three consistent players to the lineup. Duran, Jax, Thielbar, Lopez & Moran & maybe Henriquez can be most of a very good bullpen. If we add back all the guys in the hospital, I think this team wins the division next year. Plus there will be 6-8 guys in the minors creeping up on the major league roster.
I am looking forward to watching this team over the next couple of years, hopefully with the same manager, coaches and front office. At the end of the day, I think this team has a lot of positives going for it.

Its April. "Oh we're not playing Buxton this month in case he gets hurt. We'll wait until August to play him." All fans would think what genius's the managment of the Twins is. NOT.

Cole Sands seems to be in the Twins BP plans, but he has not looked the part of being a valuable arm going forward.
Brooks Lee has definitely shown his value and could be flying through the organization.

Great season by the Wind Surge. Just came up a couple wins short. Good to see Balazovic have a decent outing to close out his season. Shuffield has played well (.855 OPS) for a fill in. Not everything went well in the bigs but plenty of players to be excited about on the farm. Headricks, SWR, Julien, Lee, Varland, Laweryson, Sisk and even Martin. (after returning from IL) Those are just the ones I can think of in AA and AAA. Plus some of the guys we traded at mid season. We may not have a top 5 farm system but seems to me there's plenty of players on the cusp of contributing to the Twins when called on.
