Please for the love of God don't send Kirilloff back down once the COVID players/Sano come back from the IL. Watching him have ABs is really the only thing worth watching this team for right now. Well him and Buxton I guess.

Man, Colomé is basically unusable right now. I came across a stat from Aaron Gleeman saying that his WPA before tonight was the worst ever after a pitcher's first eight appearances for a new team. He's apparently the only pitcher in MLB history to be under -2.0 WPA in that span. I'm sure it's even worse after tonight.

I don't know what you even do with him. I guess stash him away and only use him for mop up duty. Honestly some of the worst relief pitching I've seen watching the team for 25+ years.

It doesn't matter how many mental gymnastics I do, I will never be able to comprehend the decision-making behind what transpired in the 8th inning.

Not sure our bullpen could be much worse - it is a slow painful torture to even watch them pitch.

If the 8th inning was supposed to be a low leverage situation for Colome to start regaining his confidence I don't think it worked.

Colome was gifted that K to start the 8th as well. The guy just can't be anywhere near games that are close at this point. The Twins don't have the luxury of finding out whether he can regain some semblance of a major league pitcher.

Among the many, many things that could be said, or asked, about this game, one stands head and shoulders above all else:

"What the **** was that 8th inning about?"

Edit: I guess it was too much to ask a beat writer to question Rocco on the monumentally stupid decision to let Colome struggle through a hit batter followed by three walks (and it should have been four walks if not for a gift K) in the 8th inning of a 1 run game: no mention in the Strib game story. Nothing.

    I mean, come on!

I have heard really good things about Lin defensively, suggesting he could be a defensive super-sub.

And we were protecting a 1-run lead, and Arraez had already contributed to blowing a 2 run lead in LF.

And Arraez’s spot in the order never even came up again, so it didn’t ultimately hurt us at all.

Telecast seemed to imply Rocco mistakenly had to remove Berrios due to a 2nd mound visit.

Anyone know if that's true? Was it covered in post game presser?

    If true, that's...not really acceptable.

I am frustrated and disappointed with the start to the season thus far, make no mistake. But I am not in panic or knee-jerk massive change mode. Why? Because I've been watching baseball for 50yrs...OK, I was a small kid the first few years...and I have seen a ton of teams start slow and then ramp up. And I've also seen many teams start hot and fade. So despite how disappointed and frustrated I am, I'm giving a pass, grudgingly, for April unless we just tank the rest of the month.

That doesn't mean changes can't be made or shouldn't be made.

What would I do at this point? Well, it's to say because MLB, in their infinite wisdom, (extreme sarcasm), has decided to delay the milb season and messed how you play with your roster early in the season, despite the taxi squad and the reserve roster working out at St Paul.

Lineup wise, you just can't "give up" on Polanco and Sano at this point. Sano is MISSING barreling up, but is doing everything else right. He's taking good AB and not flailing, which is what we want. Polanco hit before before some bad things happened in his life and he got busted for a substance. But he hit when healthy after those events until his ankle got messed up. Healthy, reportedly, he had a great ST but has looked BAD so far. Is he just finding his stroke and timing? Can you give up on him this soon?

Same with Garver and Kepler. Even if both never approach their 2019 seasons, we've seen they have the talent and ability to be productive hitters. Two weeks is NOT time to freak out for anyone, no matter how disappointing the start to the season has been.

I like Cave as a 4th OF. He has a solid 2018-2019 but a bad 2020. I excuse a lot of guys for a bad 2020. He had a bad beginning to 2019 before being sent down and then coming back up strong. I believe he has an option left, so despite no AAA play at this point, I'd send him down and bring up Kirilloff and run with him. We're looking for a jump start so why not? He can play 3 spots and Kepler can cover CF here and there. And it shouldn't take away from AB for Arraez at all.

Speaking of Arraez, just put him at #1 and leave him there. He's at least OK against LHP and it provides stability. With Donaldson behind him, be should be even better. Cruz and the crazy and now ready to go Buxton should/could make a great first 4.

Tell me, convince me, with previous history, that Kepler, Sano, Garver/Jeffers and Polanco shouldn't start to hit and produce over the next couple of weeks with any sort of "normal" taking place?

Sometimes, baseball, football, basketball, sometimes your lineup just needs time as well as tweaks and changeup. It really stinks that BOTH Rooker and Garlick are out right now. But a shakeup is needed once in a while. Especially when you don't have a backup catcher who walks naked through the clubhouse to provide relief, lol.

I've seen enough of the rotation thus far to be VERY encouraged! I've seen enough of the pen so far to go from "concerned without worry" to begin to worry. I'm not going to let myself plunge in to panic mode at this point. BUT, something needs to "click" soon or changes will have to be made!

I think Dobnak has a real future in MLB. And he's had some good IP. But not everyone can transition to the pen easily. I'm starting to wonder if the best thing for him isn't pitching at St Paul and then taking over a rotation spot when someone is out. Of course, once again, there is no AAA going on right now.

If the 2021 Twins were a car, an engine, back in the 80's/early 90's, I would say they were an engine ready to drive hard and fast with a tuneup to the carburetor and/or plugs. It's up to not just the players, but to Rocco and his staff and the FO for said tuneup.

Again, I'm willing to give April a pass due to a lot of things. But May 1st is coming up. Things are going to get real soon. And while I am a huge fan of Rocco, I don't think he's been on point thus far. But it's still on the players to produce as well. But I laugh at those wanting to replace him, especially after what he's done thus far, with someone who spits fire. Even TK, and his not quite as successful protege Gardy, preached an even keel approach. How many of us have worked for a day to day DRIVER, or watched such for a sports team, and have felt/witnessed a lack of direction due to being hit over the head day in and day out? That method of management just doesn't last beyond a short period of time.

We are going to need/want Arraez starting and leading off pretty much every game. I don't know who doesn't start when Donaldson, Kirilloff, Buxton, Cave, Rooker and the rest of them are able to play but Luis needs to play as much as possible. That guy has stones.

As a former contract negotiation attorney, I love the positive upside and the limited negative downside of this contract and, as a current Statistics professor, I especially love this graphic. It is a very effective communication of the current contract status of our starters. I hope you'll send it to the FO and they can start using it if they don't already have one like it (although I bet they do--but hey, now we do too so let's keep using it as more of our young pitchers hopefully get signed to deals like this). Good work Nick!

Dobnak was one of the Twins best pitchers last year, prior to that disaster in St. Louis after which he couldn't throw strikes. No reason to be surprised that he is having a good spring, with a new pitch making it a great spring.

Will be a bloody shame if he isn't among the Twins starting 5 come opening week considering he is one of their three best starters. The Twins are a better team and will win more games if he takes the ball every fifth day. Maybe the answer is to stack him with Happ and give the rest of the bullpen the day off. That would mean they would be rested when overworked the other four days.

I take nothing negative from Pineda's performance, nor should you. He's just trying stuff, working on stuff, and getting his innings in. Period.

Very happy that we finally have a final and positive outcome in regard to Thorpe's extra option year. This is not just good news for the Twins, but as much so for Thorpe. After his disappointing 2020, and there is no further reason to reflect or react, he came to camp in great shape mentally, emotionally and physically. He has shown to the Twins and himself he is ready. There are only so many roster spots available to begin the season. NOW, which version of him begins 2021? Is it the 2020 version who suffered and struggled with "whatever"? Or is he the talented young prospect who lost 2yrs due to injury and illness and fought hard to re-establish himself as a quality/top prospect and who has worked so hard now to get ready for 2021? I'm betting on the latter and fully believe Thorpe and Dobnak will play important roles in 2021 in the pen and rotation while also making themselves pertinent parts of the 2022 staff.

As far as Max goes, please correct me if wrong, but hasn't he had a couple bad springs before cranking it up when the season started?

Waddell isn't going to break camp unless there is an injury. And I know his appearances were mostly late innings, but DAMN, can't you still be impressed by a relatively young LHP doing tbat well? Watch out Thielbar.

Really disappointed that Morneau is the lead analyst. Too boring and a monotone voice. And is really a good person but announcing is not for him. And never stops talking. I usually put the sound down so low that his voice is mufffled. Really miss Bert. The good point is I can watch a lot of golf on the weekends and the radio on for baseball.

When your opening day pitcher comes off a 2020 "making 12 starts and sporting a 5.35 ERA (5.70 xERA) and striking out 58 batters over 67.1 innings", your pitching staff is in a load of trouble.
