Is Ryan tipping his pitches or something? Crazy nose dive from the guy that (I think) led MLB in xERA during the first half for a while

So, no Wallner. Why is he up? Seriously? Why is he up?
this is 100% why I said they wouldn't call him up to replace Miranda, because it would be a waste of his growth / time.
Why is Buxton still batting 3rd?
    At least Jeffers is playing....

In checking Lòpez' closer history (that is only this year), he hasn't worked three consecutive games all year, so I presume he is out for today, as are Fulmer, Duran and Jax. Sands and Pagán are rested and available and I presume both Thielbar and Megill could get an inning. Not a great scenario, but they did secure at least a split and won the season series vs. the Blue Jays.
Pagán has not been good this year and Sands hasn't shown he is ready to be a major league pitcher from his stats, but who do you replace them with? Both Winder and Moran are on the Injured List at triple A and given Toronto's lineup, I wouldn't want the lefty Smeltzer to face them. I have to believe that Smeltzer gets recalled for Sands after today, but that Pagán holds on to a spot because there aren't any better options.

I'm happy for Jake Cave. He's done yeoman work at AAA after being a big leaguer, glad to see him having some success. That triple last night was a big hit, at least for my blood pressure.

Interesting. You would think collegiate ball would pretty much be winding down.

Basically the Twins have duo coaches at both of their top levels in the minors. Virgil Vasquez or Cibney Bello could easily advance, as they have worked with a number of the pitchers in the system. Pete Larson and Dan Urbina are at AA Wichita. Justin Willard could also advance out of the complex. There's four coaches now with the Complex team, plus assistant Zach Bove.

Be interesting to see what happens.

I don't like the way they are baby caring for Archer, but I have to admit it seems to be working. A question I have to ask though is, do the games in Sept. count more than the games in June and July? I keep hearing thats why they are keeping his innings down, but what happens if they start falling behind Cleveland or Chicago before September? With this bullpen it seems like an extra inning could make a big difference. Would it harm Archer at this point to expand his pitch count from say 75 to 90? I hope that decision is up to the Trainers and Docs, not Rocco.

For all the hand-wringing about his usage Archer is 2nd on the team in innings pitched, maybe that’s a low bar on this team though.

My goodness, Byron Buxton is amazing. Hopefully, he's going to stay on this tear for a while!
Smeltzer did a nice job, but I'm a little worried that the shine is coming off from him. The FIP suggests he's been a bit lucky, and it's just tough when you're not getting Ks. I'm not saying I expect him to fall apart completely, but I also wouldn't put too many hopes on him. Hopefully he can find ways to get more easy outs. But he's still done a good job stepping in at a time when we needed someone to do it with all the injuries.

I should be more upset about a nasty sweep like this, but I'm not. Overmatched and outgunned. Just like when LA came to town, now they know how they stack up against the top squads - at least when not at full strength.
Make adjustments, keep the ship pointed at .500 by July 1 and see what happens.
