Yoke reacted to Dman in Twins Minor League Week in Review: Walkoff Wins of Change in Wichita
I don't view Palacios as a "special" or an All-Star type shortstop but I think he is pretty solid there.  I would say he reminds me a little bit of Escobar who wasn't spectacular at short but got the job done and eventually moved over to third base.  Palacios has some nice peripheral batting numbers. K rate is around 20% Walk rate is OK slugging is good for a shortstop. He looks like a guy that could make it at the MLB level.  Given where he is right now in my mind he doesn't project to be much more than average at the position but that could change if he figures some things out and enhances his skill set but odds are he is average or slightly below average at the position but the thing is he looks like the best thing the Twins have in the system unless Lewis can continue to prove he can hit.
He would be an ideal utility player because he would be able to play all infield spots average or better than average defensively and his bat should work at those positions as well.  The transition to MLB is hard though and he could easily fail to achieve any of that potential but right now IMO he is the best we have to offer at that position and would like to see what he can do at the MLB level in a lost season.
I like him better than Gordon for short as he has more power and a better eye at the plate his defense might be slightly better as well.  For as strong an arm as Gordon has I never felt like he looked that great at short and with all the errors it kind of confirms he struggles there.  I assume that is why the Twins didn't play him there that much.  At any rate Palacios is doing well enough at AA to get picked in the rule V if not protected so why not add him early bring him up and see what he can do?  If he is horrible then DFA him if good or better than good then they know what they have going into next year.  He isn't getting any younger let's see what the kid can do before we never give him a chance at all and lose him.

Yoke reacted to Diesel in GAME (of life) THREAD 3/13: MIN (and the world) vs. COVID-19.
Just recently, I read John Bonnes’ great article on how this site is an amazing community, and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve realized that the game of baseball is a nice way to get away from the problems you face at work, school, and home.

Last year, I got more heavily involved with the Game Threads of this site, and was even due to do one for a playoff game! Alas, that didn’t happen. In the past few months, the gravity of the coronavirus situation has intensified, leading to, at the very least, the postponement of baseball, along with many other events.

I wanted to start a “game thread” to just see how everybody’s doing. As one of the younger members of this site, I am currently on forced extended spring break from college. Faculty is preparing to switch to online classes, but who knows what will happen given the volatility of this virus. Doing homework and watching lectures for engineering classes without direct contact to teachers would definitely be interesting!

On the positive side, I get to see my family everyday, and get to work alongside my father and grandfather, which is amazing. With the sudden increase in free time, I think I’m going to start exercising more often, specifically running!

I’m still going to be watching baseball, but will be watching some of the classic Twins games, including:

    Game 163 against the Tigers
Jason Kubel cycle game vs. the Angels
Miguel Sano grand slam against the Indians
The entirety of the 1991 World Series.

In conclusion, I just want to hear how everybody’s doing! We may be in some relative isolation for a bit, so anything goes below! Faux games, life updates, stories, anything. Everybody, stay safe, and keep your stick on the ice!

Well, the line missing from the Baldelli quote above was:

"I can't say he was excited about it, but I think he was understanding."

So yeah, not super jazzed. But ... it's up to him at this point ... go and do. He missed a week or so of camp. While I might have wanted to see him continue, they obviously felt he was far enough behind. He'll get his opportunity.

Too bad the Jets extended Maurice just prior to Boudreau getting fired. I would have loved ot see Gabby coach the Jets next season.
This one definitely fits the adage, good goalies make good coaches, bad goalies get coaches fired.

That was what I was nervous about, but I don't have a contract with Spectrum, so it worked out best case scenario. I was researching all of the different streaming services when we were going to get rid of Sling, and they were either cheap, or had what I wanted, and there wasn't much in the middle of the Venn diagram.

I would use the whole year either way, though, since the two main things I watch are the Twins and the Wild.

I'd rather the HRs come organically and that Arraez stays true to his core nature and what we saw in 2019. The sky is the limit with Arraez, I like the comparison to Rod Carew that I heard Roy Smalley talk about last season. There is still room in today's homerun crazy game for a hitter like Arraez.

This is exactly why I still have Comcast. I've thought about switching to Sling or Hulu but the cost is not much less when you add everything up. I mostly just watch local sports too. It sucks that there are barely any options left to view them.
