You are way underestimating Eduardo Rodriguez's salary.. He's going to get a qualifying offer. I think the AAV on a 3-4 year deal will exceed that *$18.4M).

We were reminded again this year that catchers are always a foul ball to the seeds away from major surgery.  And of course you have an all time franchise icon who had to switch to first because of too many fouls to the grill.  Stand pat at catcher please, depth is only temporary.

If so many guys throw that hard, why was half our bullpen rolling out AAAA guys who throw 91-92? It doesn't seem to be a problem for many other teams, but the Twins can never seem to convert these type of arms into effective MLB relievers.

I can't separate Baldelli to any meaningful degree from the front office. With regard to pitch counts, for example, it seems plain he implemented the front office's vision. I give them all a D.  Maybe it should be an F, but I'll regrade it to that retroactively if 2022 gives further evidence they're running this franchise into the ground. And conversely maybe this should be a C grade if next year reveals 2021 to be just a blip toward their own benchmark of sustainable success.

The team has done pretty well with Buxton on the field, so I think that makes it harder to evaluate.  The dumb extra inning rule exposed an ice cold closer and poor depth behind him.  A team with some bad pieces can sometimes not gel.  To me its kind of a C grade but maybe he handled things really well behind closed doors with covid, vaccines, etc.

I think Chuck Knoblauch is probably a more apt comparison. Not perfect, but closer to Buxton’s situation than Ortiz.

I doubt Houston fans have given this trade a second thought. They accelerated Pressly’s development and received 3 years of good to great production before either of the prospects they traded away contributed anything at the MLB. Who’s to say we want all 5 future seasons of Alcala and Celestino’s careers? Many a reliever has flamed out over history.
Celestino has looked promising in AAA, but until there’s real production we’re counting our chickens before they hatch.

Sign Buxton and trade Celestino for more pitching.

Is Buxton going to go somewhere and load up on PEDS?
Also, isn't it great how ownership has completely persuaded the fan base that low payrolls were so natural that no one blames the Pohlads for not paying to keep Ortiz and are willing to accept payroll as a reason to not pay Berrios or Buxton?

Sano has gone from totally untradable to having some trade value, but the Twins would probably still need to eat some of his contract in order to get much back. I don't see the Twins trading him if they can't get a good return as they don't have anything proven behind him.

Seeing where "Pitch #6" to Gardner was according to the illustration, it doesn't look like such a horrible call... A missed call, but very borderline.
It's also OK to then not give up the three-run homer... even though (presumably) everybody knew that's exactly what was going to hit.

I have been on the side of extending Pineda, but with what I have seen lately, I'm extremely leery of it now.  I'd like a veteran presence in the rotation, but unless it's a very team friendly extension, I'd be very nervous about it now.

Simmons' presence has moved Polanco to 2B where he fits much better defensively,  and his comfort might be part of his great offense.

Phil Hughes extension was bad.  he wasn't signed as a free agent.
Does anyone remember the impact of the Butch Huskey signing?  How about that time we signed the hall of famer Steve Carlton?  (1-6 with an 8.54 ERA) Mike Pelfry was bad though I rooted for him cause he wanted to be here.  He was ok his last season here.  And who can forget the signing of Sidney Ponson?

While working (I'm retired), I made my living dealing in numbers so I have some appreciation for their value as an analytical tool.  But as Viola so clearly points out, without baseball fundamentals and a passion for the game, you won't have a winning team.  While numbers have their uses, catching, throwing to the correct base, hitting the cutoff man, making contact with your bat, etc. will probably win more games than studying a piece of paper lodged in your cap.

Congratss to Andrew Albers. I hope I'm wrong, but the league has seen his act before and before long it will likely be " bombs away".
