Pressly was not going to be extended, so we got a nice return. Houston has a reputation of fixing certain pitchers but no way could they have imagined Pressly would put together back to back career half seasons. Bottomline is we will win that trade.

No way we are going to lose the Cave/Gil trade. He's pitched 3 games of A+ ball?

h20face: you need to look up Maeda's 2019 stats and compare them to Wheeler, Madbum, Ryu, Keuchel, Syndegaard, and Gray. His K/9 is better than all of them, he has the 2nd lowest WHIP of this group, and his ERA is in the same range (except for Ryu) who had a career best in 2019. Did I mention he's the least expensive of this group? Just sayin hold off on the negativity until the season plays out.

Boston can't expect some massive Prospect gain when they are dumping salary it just doesn't work that way.  Also it's only 1 year of Betts not 2 or 3 just one. They are getting a fantastic deal as it is even without Graterol.  Graterol is just a nice sweatner LA can give up because MN was willing to trade for Maeda and with Price they don't need Maeda.  I just don't see how Boston can ask for much more here.

I mean to fit Price in LA had to do a salary dump of their own with the Angels.  I know the Boston fans and the press don't like the deal but this is what a salary dump looks like and it really is a good deal for Boston as they get 5 years of a player that come close to replacing what Betts does for much less and rid themselves of Price in the process.  It just doesn't get much better than that for one year of a player.

Agree -- At the very least, he has the potential to be very good. Doesn't mean he will be great for sure, but his ceiling is pretty high.

Agreed. Plenty of reason to be excited. I look at these two, and a few others, as a portfolio of assets. If just a couple hit the Twins are in good shape. Also, thanks!

I wouldn't think too much about Jon Gray unless Arenado gets traded for a package that doesn't include a player that would readily replace him like Kris Bryant. The Rockies don't want to cave for a rebuild and for better or worse, aren't going to start selling off parts like Gray until they have no choice.

No team in baseball is going to pay anywhere near 96M for Price. We can afford to wait the Sox out. If we offer 3 years for 10-12 per, the Pohlads may bite.

They are not going to develop starting pitchers just to turnaround and trade them. Unlikely they move any starting pitcher over A ball.

If not Pittsburgh, Miami would be another ideal trade partner.

I think that today's Pittsburgh trade is interesting in that they traded Marte for two talented 19 year olds. To me that suggests they are in core rebuild mode not looking for major league ready talent. They may be more interested in a Cavaco, Celestino, Immanuel Rodriguez type in a trade also. I can't imagine they have much interest in Cave unless it would be to save payroll the next couple of years. But I do like the idea of trading with Pittsburgh for pitching. Get them on the phone and see what they are interested in.

I'm confident we will pick up a #3 at some point in time and deal with the Yankees accordingly.

When Dobnak got called up, he was on an incredible run of consistency dating back to the 2018 season, and that streak is still going even after his performance in game 2 of the playoffs:

There's potentially more here than he gets credit for, but still a lot of unknowns as he sees more MLB lineups and more data gets out on him.

He's going to be a fun one to follow this year wherever he's pitching.

I'd have to guess the reason we haven't seen any starting pitching moves outside of Kluber being made is because the asking price is sky high. Teams likely saw the high cost in free agency even for guys like Keuchel and Kyle Gibson and want more than their arms are worth.

By the deadline, some teams may fall into a position where they lose all the leverage of having a 0-0 record. If they're out of it, teams like the DBacks won't be able to give the illusion of wanting to hold onto Robbie Ray. If the Rockies go full rebuild and dump Arenado, they can't pretend Jon Gray will be around for their next competitive window.

Why not? Because you can't win the world series with one player. If the Twins swooped in and offered 35-42 million for 8-10 year to beat the Yankees upcoming offer of 280-300 million they would be Cole poor, kinda like House Poor.
