This is going to be a patience game. Let players like Martin develop, and give them time to work through their challenges as they break into MLB. The idea of competing for the division in 2022 or 2023 seems like nonsense to me, so I don't feel any pressure for these new prospects to fill a gap for a contender. All I want is the right coaching to help them be strong, smart and competitive as ballplayers. Martin seems like he could be a reliable .300 hitter, which is great.

He's so easy to root for.  Glad his bat has bounced back!

For me, it's about production based on the award name. Awards that ignore production and focus on popularity have long been an issue in baseball. I'd feel differently if this was an award for "Prospect of the Month" but it's an award for Minor League Hitter of the Month.

I've been trying to find video that I thought I saw on twitter of a Baldelli press conference that I'd like to post here, but I think he explains it well. And it's nothing new... Dan Hayes tweeted why it makes so much sense too. It's not really difficult.
1.) Ober's career-high innings was 78.1 IP in 2019, when he missed half of the season with elbow issues, which he's had since his sophomore year of college.
2.) He pitched zero competitive innings in 2020. He wasn't in St. Paul at the alternate site. He wasn't at Instructional League in Ft. Myers in November.
3.) They need to keep him healthy through 10-11 more starts this year and probably try to keep him in the 110-120 innings range.
Baldelli's comments (notice that he says this is an organizational theory, not just his and Wes's, but the front office, the medical team, etc.)

I get the frustration with pulling Ober, but as was pointed out to me in another conversation, Ober hasn't pitched more than 80 innings in a season, well, ever ... and missed all of last season ... so I get being cautious with him, too. Yeah, I would have liked to see him go one more inning, and really think they could have given him just one more, but I just can't be overly upset with it, either. That said, I'm not sure how the pen was mismanaged last night? I mean ... they gave up zero runs. Maybe that's luck, given the pen blowups this season, but for them to give us 5 innings without giving up a run ... I can't really call that mismanaged.

    A.  They got good value in the trades they made.  And I won’t fault or speculate on trades not made, maybe there just was no real interest in them.

I'm surprised that Pineda didn't get traded, but maybe the offers just weren't there. If all you were going to get is a couple of marginal prospects that you'd need to protect on the 40 man (and we're going to have a bit of a 40-man crunch this year with our system depth), then maybe it's the right call. Especially if they're thinking about bringing him back in 2022; as seen in the case of MN Twins v. Escobar...if you trade a guy it's hard to re-sign him.
But I'm surprised a team like the Padres didn't make a good offer on him. But if they didn't, they didn't. It takes two to tango. More importantly, we got rid of JA Happ.

I disagree. Who is going to mentor the young guys, just Maeda? I really think we under estimate that.......these are people that need support from guys that have been there, done that.

I agree, I think Pineda is a guy that they will try to bring back, and it was going to be way easier to do by keeping him this year, he seems like a guy that would be easier to sign while being here then trying to bring back in the off season, (Cruz seems like a guy that will give the Twins a chance to sign him again next year if the Twins look decent)

I've posted this too much, but since this is a Pineda thread.......
They have 2 veterans on the MLB roster to mentor the young players. I think we all under estimate the value of that. I'd try to extend Pineda 2 years. Then either sign or deal for a better SP in the off season. Pineda, Meada, FA/Trade + 2 from this system is what I'd start the year with.
I think rotating the AAA / AA players thru this year, to get their feet wet and see their stuff against MLB players is important, and I think Pineda and Maeda being here to mentor them is also important.

Ceiling - if the power comes and he irons out all the defensive questions: Mookie Betts, with less speed.
His floor: Marwin Gonzalez, Twins 2020.
I do like my comp as a more versatile Luis Arraez as a median.

He's 20 in AA....and has really good stuff....I have no ability to predict the future though (as you'd know from my day trades this year.....). But I also hope he's good. I'd say really good chance he's AT least a RP......at the MLB level. If not more.
