I think when the season is over the Twins should let Nick Gordon go home.  You have to wonder about confidence levels at this point, and going up to the majors with an already low level of confidence could be devastating.  I would hate to see him come up get 10-15 AB's and go 0-15 with 8 K's.  Let him reset and come back strong in 2019, then join the Twins early in the summer if things go well.

I'm pretty sure my friend and I came up with this idea when we were 12 year old knuckleheads.  Our plan however was to collect and destroy every 1993 Terry Jorgensen Donruss baseball card except for one.  Then we would have the only one in existence and therefore would become rich.

Needless to say, pre-internet it was hard to find every Terry Jorgensen baseball card in existence.  I think we did end up taking out about 15 of them though while we kept "The One" in a thick plastic case for protection.  Also, this plan did not make us rich.

In addition EE is a plus in the clubhouse (I have read). Forward thinking article. I like it.

This is a fantastic idea. Even if his bat slows down, Escobar doesn't need to hit as much at 2B as at 3B. And that versatility is nice if the Twins have the excellent problem of other guys knocking on the door (Blankenhorn, Javier, etc.) and run out of room for him. We've seen with Eduardo Nunez that it's not hard to trade a guy who can play all over the place, especially to NL teams.

I wonder what that kind of an extension would cost for Escobar? I'd imagine something like 4 years $32 - $36 million?

There have been a lot worse ideas posted on TD than this one. I know, I posted some of them. . This idea sort of solves a few issues all at once. I have never believed EE to be able to play SS in MLB full time. He just doesn't have the range. And normally I wouldn't think he has the power for a prototypical 3B. But right now he is far more dangerous than Sano, with more defense. And a switch hitter. Despite the bigger offensive names the Twins have on their roster, he is still likely the one I would want up in a clutch situation. At least he won't try and hit a 3 run HR with someone on second. In the past I always thought the more his bat was exposed, the less he hit. But he seems to have worked past that.

That's a good question.  I have never thought of the logistics of the process.  Fantasy football sites have a database of players available and have waiver claim priorities.  I wonder if MLB has a similar type of closed network database where teams can just go in and make claims, expose players to waivers and then talk smack to other GMs via a message board.

    Brandon,
How does the process work, officially? Does Lavine (or whoever is in charge of seeing the list of players on waivers) get a spreadsheet/email/text to go through daily/twice daily and can sign off on anyone at once? Is it over the phone? Are there smoke signals? How does the team with the third priority find out that the first and 2nd team haven't claimed a player, and so on? With so many players in MLB, this seems like a pretty daunting task to go through all the players on waivers, quickly, go through your team's payroll and what you are looking for, and decide if it can work.

Maybe is there an app for that?

Loosey got a reaction from nytwinsfan in Twins Player Development is Very, Very Bad.
I don't disagree that the Twins are currently not doing a good job at all at developing players.  However, there are players they did develop that didn't get to be in consideration for ROY vote due to the way they were brought up or other reasons.  Johan Santanta was a rule 5 pickup that was not very good his first year.  He ended up turning out ok if you consider 2 Cy Young Awards good.  And Joe Mauer exceeding his Rookie status during his 35 games in 2004.  Justin Morneau took a few years of Major League seasoning to develop into an MVP type of player.  So while I agree in general to your assessment the Twins are bad at developing players, I don't think the ROY vote percentage is completely fair.

I strongly disagree with you. I think the Twins Daily coverage of spring training is excellent. Likely they do not focus on stats during spring training because . . . spring training stats mean jack. Plus there are at least a dozen websites where you can go get stats up the wazoo if you really want to obsess over 27 PAs. Twins Daily is primarily for news and analysis, and new and analysis of spring training stats isn't really very helpful for anything, other than passing the days until opening day. I do think the coverage of Murphy has been a little light, but there are a lot of important pieces to this years Twins team, and Murphy (as back-up catcher) probably isn't the most important, even if he is new.  I'm sure Twins Daily will have plenty of coverage of how he is adjusting to the Twins, both statistically and otherwise. As for Kepler, where have you been? TD is borderline obsessed with him. There are lots of quotes from Terry Ryan about him in a number of articles I've read here recently. Literally this article from today goes on an on about him:  The fact that it doesn't mention or try to draw conclusions from his meaningless spring training stats is a virtue, not a flaw. Instead it rightly focuses on Kepler's mentality and recent changes in his approach, Ryan's thoughts on Kepler and the organization and Kepler's own plans for him this year.

To sum up, I guess I think saying that the Twins Daily spring training coverage sucks just because they haven't focused on the spring training stats of one or two (relatively unimportant in the short term) players you are particularly interested in kind of sucks.

Nick wrote this article on John Ryan Murphy after talking to him earlier this week: http://twinsdaily.com/_/minnesota-twins-news/spring-training-2016/twins-banking-on-murphys-growth-r4528

Sorry if you've been disappointed in the coverage. When we go down there, we all have different goals and different styles. Though I would go in the Twins clubhouse and talk to guys for a little bit before practice each morning, I also spent a ton of time watching the minor league side. I also took a ton of pictures for the Twitter page but also for minor league reports throughout the season. Nick also got to the clubhouse earlier and wrote a great Notes column each day as well as a feature each night.

But as others mentioned, we do want to do things and write stories that you won't find elsewhere, topics that the mainstream guys aren't covering.

We definitely appreciate your input and hopefully we can go again next year and we can try to get ideas for story ideas.

Reading this made me reflect on and feel extreme gratitude for every one who makes Twins Daily so incredibly exceptional. My own gratitude extends to writers and to community members. And I see the quality of coverage in an almost opposite vein! It's nothing short of excellent, especially when one considers the challenge regarding access and I'm guessing some financial constraints as well. If the access media probed even 20% as deeply and exerted themselves even half as much as the contributors to TD, we'd really have something.

Besides, there are literally a hundred good stories for our TD folks to cover . . .

I'm not sure what more you are expecting.  They have people down there covering some parts of it and writing stories. If you use the forums there is more than enough coverage (Kepler included) to get information from individuals writing on their own who are down their in FM or just following from afar.

Also, this is more of a fan blog than a sports journalism site.  The site owners do not have the access that credentialed sports journalists do, yet in my opinion, spew out 10+ times the information and coverage the newspapers do.
