Castro will be back next year , if not, the Twins FO has brain worms.

Gosh, for those who don't like Wallner's OF defense, this is not a great solution.  Kirilloff is much slower, and has a very poor arm.  Baseball Savant actually rates his arm below Ben Revere, which I didn't know was even possible.  Kirilloff's LF zone rating trails Wallner substantially.
I like Kirilloff a lot... at first base.
If it isn't Wallner, my guess is it will likely be Castro against rhp.  Luplow likely will get lefties either way.

Wallner is Gallo 2.0 without the track record. Unless Wallner heats up in the next few weeks, I'm going with Gallo instead and the reason is defense and position flexibility.

    One missing nuance is Maeda…….
Reducing innings is a way to help keep guys fresh but skipping starts is the real way to get it done.
Ryan to IL for his leg got him 3 skipped starts or about 2 plus weeks completely off. Currently doing the same with Ober, if not longer than 2 weeks.
Kuechel & Maeda have no innings build up this year because of their limited use over April-June.
Lopez & Gray probably get 1 skip each once we get to the last 3 series……a couple more weeks.

Nope, better that he gave the Twins what he did at the major league level than toiling all season at St. Paul and making only a couple of starts. The Twins can now pencil him in as a surething in 2024 and push him towards 150+ innings.

I think they've handled him well.
I also think that having him in St. Paul gives them maximum flexibility going forward.
They've now reached the point where they could bring him back up without needing an injury to do so. By putting him on the IL, they'd be committing to not using him until next Tuesday.  At St Paul, they can give him another start or two to make sure he stays stretched out for continued usage as a starter in either the regular season or postseason. Or, and particularly if Ryan and Maeda continue to look the part as starters 3 and 4 for the playoffs, St. Paul is the best place to transition to the pen in a structured way, with x number of pitches on x number of days' rest, etc.

I do agree that a trip to Driveline or some other mystical swing doctor would probably serve him well. He needs months to identify what led to the injury and build a foundation to overcome it by Valentine's Day. The organization isn't suited to that sort of work the way an individual coach is.

I have Luplow as the last player on the bench, and a Keuchel/Sands/Winder type also being ahead of Gallo on the cut list. They are not cutting Gallo at this point.
Not a fan of the front office leaving Kirilloff in the minors, or Larnach for that matter. Both Gallo and Kirilloff will be on the playoff roster. How many pitchers should they carry for that 3 game series? There should be room for Larnach even if Larnach is the last player on the bench in those games. Kirilloff has got to be starting first baseman in those games.

In my view, as long as MAT is on the IL they won't move on from Gallo.
Gallo can play CF competently and the Twins want no situation where Stevenson is getting innings in the playoffs.
Without MAT, the only playoff options in CF are Gallo and Castro. Kepler is not playing Center.

Yeah, the Post. I don’t see him in the same category as Donaldson, so let’s not put him there. He hasn’t the same history. I did read a few things, though, that NY was hard on him mentally, both internally and externally, so perhaps that’s where the perceived prickliness came out with the press but I only heard supportive comments of him from teammates. He just doesn’t have the history Donaldson does, so, as I said, let’s not go there.
That said, it’s going to come down to a choice between Gallo or Luplow. I think Stevenson stays while MAT is out. One of Gallo or Luplow should go and I wonder if Luplow adds more value, even if just a hair.

I think the team handled Ober appropriately.  He is tired and needs this rest period to help us in the playoffs assuming we get there.
I'd prefer to see Ober rather than Kuchel or Maeda if things get close down the stretch here.  I also think he may be a piggy back candidate in a playoff game or if we get to a 7-game series, a game 4 starter.
You cannot compare Ober to Blyleven as back then he was throwing like 85mph FB's not the 95mph that is required of most starters today.  The extra velocity puts additional stress on the body and limits the number of innings that these guys can pitch.

I don't think so. He has remained on the 40-man roster, so he should be good to go on a post-season roster.
In regard to the OP, I don't think Ober was mishandled. The one thing is that he has been denied Major League service time when he has been deserving of being on the roster for the entire season, but since he has a minor league option and other starters did not, he has logged some minor league time. It won't change his arbitration eligibility or when he becomes a free agent.

    I sure hope Miranda isn't a 1 and done player ....
If he can be sent to the Arizona fall league  so he can get some game time to prepare for 2024 ,  I'm not sure this is possible because of his 1 year of mlb baseball  ...
Next he should go to driveline  to help him get on track for 2024 ....
Hate to give up on any player to soon ...

The Twins control Ober until the end of 2027, at which point he will be 32 years old. There is very little incentive to give him a long-term contract.

I'm not. There aren't that many pitchers who can successfully pitch 5 innings in the big leagues. If you go to a 6 man rotation on the Twins you're giving innings to someone like Headrick instead of Sonny Gray.
There are a lot more pitchers who can get through 1 inning than can get through 6 innings.

It isn't mentioned that he was the 6th starter out of camp only because he was the only one with options, so while too bad for Bailey, that is a no-brainer. We saw last year how short starts are not good, lol. I don't see how they could've managed him any differently. In fact when he was going well and was pulled with about 80 pitches there were complaints. I would say the front office has done really well with their pitchers with injury histories. Duran pitched 16 innings 2 years ago and they get him through 2 full seasons healthy. Ober has been hurt year after year yet they got quite a bit from him this year with maybe more to come. If anything they could've shut him down earlier. There only thing I'm not clear on is why he got sent down instead of going on the IL.

For every Bert Blyleven there was an Eddie Bane, a Mark Fidrych, and numerous other more obscure pitchers who lost effectiveness due to overuse.  There is a reason modern day FO manage their pitchers carefully.  As this article points out, it remains a challenge to figure out the best way to do this for each pitcher and situation.  The option of pulling a successful pitcher early in the game to limit innings is obviously not popular.  I am surprised that the 6 man rotation never came to fruition, but there are reasons for that too (room for fewer relievers, pitchers preference for more regular work, etc.)

Ober was still pitching ok when the Twins decided to send him to St. Paul. Bailey was clearly not as sharp however and even if he felt good the pitches were beginning to miss by just enough to be a concern.
I'm not sure why Ober wasn't put on the IL with "tired arm", but it was likely a decision based on not wanting Ober off the team for 15 days as opposed to available as needed from the Saints roster.
Ober likely gets one start in St. Paul before he is called back. I'm thinking Ober starts a playoff game if the Twins advance beyond the first round with Maeda ready in relief. There are still 22 games left in the season. Plenty of action to go.
The Twins made fair decisions even if it might stink that Ober misses some MLB roster days.

The comparison to Solano is right on. Miranda has hit with authority as noted by Nick in the article. There will be interest in those skills from an MLB team. First, Jose needs to be healthy and prove it at the minor league level though. Solano has shown he can hit coming off the bench, which is not an easy task. Can Miranda do the same as a PH/DH/1B/3B guy?
Both Miranda and Larnach may be attractive as second or third pieces in a trade as well. Hard to predict what teams look at the Twins players for value.
