Jerr reacted to wsnydes in And the season comes to an end.
I don't think that just because one acknowledges that they weren't that bad after mid-May, that it means that that line of logic carries into next season.  They played one game below .500 since their low point mid-May, IIRC.  That's not great, I don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise.  Considering everything that happened to this team, there is some positivity related to that.  However, that obviously doesn't give them a pass going into next season.  Clearly they have work to do heading into next season.

Jerr reacted to Vanimal46 in How do you define "ace" and is Jose Berríos one?
Defining an ace is more difficult than ever these days ago now that bullpens are soaking up more innings. Berrios is exactly the type of guy we would want to target in free agency. A bulldog who gives his team a chance to win almost every time he pitches. Never gets injured, and pitches 6-7 innings each outing.
He’s done very well in Toronto. I expected him to keep up his production after he left us. And he’s done better. I am still not thrilled with the trade.

I think Pat is spot on with his take.  He has more baseball knowledge than probably anyone on this site and doesn't beat around the bush here (especially about attendance and next year's season tickets).  Hard hitting and well done.

Jerr reacted to Brock Beauchamp in I guess the game has changed, but it's not better
Yep. The game has changed. This team is actually quite good offensively but ran into some bad outcomes, which we've seen balance out recently.
But the problem remains that MLB needs to take active measures to change that a .244 batting average is middle-upper in all of baseball. That's just a bad game to watch and this is a spectator sport.

When you're 6"8 and throw 94-95, it looks like 98 to the hitter. Like Glasnow or Randy Johnson.

I don't watch much baseball these days....but Ober looks to have decent movement on his pitches. Looks like a legit #4/5 type, hopefully.

I watch a lot less this year, a big reason is because they're awful but several contributing factors really make it hard to even just enjoy the game for what it is and that's because:
The time between pitches is out of control.  Please bring in the pitch clock. Defensive shifts have drained away too much action.  The counter argument is that players should adjust and exploit the shift.  Well...it's been long enough and they aren't doing it so I have no hope it will happen. I like the challenges and the instant replay but come on, why does this take so long?   When a reliever comes in they get 2 pitches to acclimate and then game on.  They've been warming up already,   And lastly, the technology is there to use the robot umps so let's get on with it.  It's become annoying as **** to watch missed calls and just adds to the overall bleh for me. As if all that wasn't enough there's this elephant in the room called competitive balance which has been rotting away MLB since free agency started.  Baseball needs a salary cap and a floor to help ensure ALL of the teams are able to field a team that has some shot at the post season.

The thing about shifts is no matter where you place your fielders there is the same amount of real estate out there for a hitter to get a base hit. And if the defense is bunching up the fielders it actually leaves more room to get a hit. Willie Keeler used to say "Hit it where they ain't". Hitters today don't want to do that, they want to groove their swing and play home run derby.

This doesn't work, though, as four teams broke the home run record in 2019.
Best team record in 2019? 107 wins, nine wins below the season record by the Mariners in 2001.

Did not know about this till later in the day as I was working at an area golf course.  Came home to find my spouse of 28 years and a LIFE LONG Cardinals fan more than p*issed about this fleecing. Although we're watching the game together she hasn't talked to me for the last 20 minutes as I've been reading all the posts on this thread....LOL.

Any truth to rumors that Twins were reticent,,,willing to walk away…but then the Cardinals promised to start him in a game this weekend if the Twins pulled the trigger?

I've said all along that if they don't deal Pineda, I'd call this a failed deadline....but now that they've dealt Happ for TWO players? I don't know that I can say that.

The Blue Jays for Berrios or the Cardinals for Happ?

Could've traded Happ for half off a Killebrew root beer and I would've been satisfied.
An actual major league pitcher who has improved in the bullpen and a low-end prospect is even better.

He was a great player and seemingly teammate. He was 100x better than anyone could have expected for that draft slot.
Good luck to him, he'll be missed.

Sorry but people who suggest Buxton is as good as Trout if he stays on the field are way over estimating his value.  These facts matter to me:. He has only played in 37% of all the Twins games the past 4 seasons.  Also he has a lifetime .247 batting average including this year.  Yes he's had a great April.  Yes he is a great center fielder, but overall he's been a slightly above producing player.  He needs to prove he can stay on the field.  You don't pay " superstar"  money for a part time player.  It makes no sense.  One of the few times I'm with Twins management on this
