Was never a fan of his... glad his hitch and his bad outfield play is going elsewhere. Time for the young talent to come up and contribute.

Pitching depth is always something EVERY team needs. If we could get Wacha on a 2 year deal for say 8 million... do it. Injuries always play a part... so having a veteran to pick up innings would be a very smart thing. We all would like a top end pitcher but realistically we aren't going to get them here most likely....

We have some great prospects coming and they may be ready this year... or not..

I wonder if the future of friend and mentor Nelson Cruz as a Twin, would influence any decision to move Sano. Probably not. Regardless, I'd like to see them hang on to the big guy for another year.

If Twins can do another Maeda type trade where Twins give up a player of good value but receive a high quality player that fills a need, then yes/

Celestino is a much better option and is already on our 40 man roster. GREAT defensive CF and his offense is coming around. Might not be ready this year but..

There will be a ton of cuts coming up so NO need to give up any pitching assets for a defensive OF.... just not needed...

specialiststeve reacted to ScottyB in Opinion: Manfred Proposes a Playoff Restructure
I proposed this a couple of years ago:

Regular schedule to 154 games; expand to 32 teams, total 8 playoff teams from each league; 4 4-team divisions each league, 2 conferences each league - 2 divisions each; 2 wild cards each conference; wild card teams may come from same division, based on record (so possible for 3 teams from one division); Conference semi-finals, best of 3; division winners 2 home games; best record division winner plays worst record wild card; Conference Finals, best of 5; Division winners always take first priority for home field advantage, best records second priority (if division winners both eliminated); Championship series, best of 7, conference winner vs conference winner; World series as normal, best record has home field advantage.

    Personally, I love change.
If you're going to go for it, then totally go for it.

    DH? Universal!

    162 games? Gone! - More like 140

    Two leagues? OK... that stays.

30 teams? Not enough! - Expand to 32

Three divisions per league? Gone! - Two divisions of 8, per league.

5 Playoff teams? Gone! 6 playoff teams per league - 2 div winners (they get byes) and 4 WC teams that play a best of 3 series. Followed by best of 5, then best of 7 for the AL/NLDS, then 7 for the WS

Tanking? Stays! You're never going to solve tanking, and frankly, why do we want to stop it? It's probably your best chance as a small market team, to "pop up"

Draft picks? You can trade any of them!

Minimum Payroll? Institute it! - Around $100M. Tie revenue sharing to this. This will help with the movement of draft picks because tanking teams will take on other teams' albatross contracts if they also get draft picks. This becomes more of the NFL model of bad teams becoming playoff teams very quickly. Not exactly the same, but closer to it

Minor Leagues? Contract out some teams (like 1 per MLB team), but everyone makes a livable wage!

    Local TV blackouts? Banned!

Rip the band aid off. Solve it all in one fell swoop. Season would start at the same time as it does now and be done by mid October.

Oh man... I need a cold shower.

Do like how Baldelli has confidence in the young guys... reminds me of how the Rays work their young pitching. Have to give them some time up in the show to understand what needs to be done to be successful.

For a LONG time we have babied our young pitching and seemed like waited forever to get them some time up with the big club. I really like how the new FO is running our minor league with getting guys time up to get a taste. Should be interesting watching the young guys get more of a run this summer....

    Who knows on Graterol?

What are the odds he pans out as a starter? Low.

    As a reliever? Better.

Maeda is a solid starter, which Twins need going forward even beyond this year.

This is a move you make when you know your team is solid.

Will Twins miss Graterol in 2020? No.

Will Maeda win them a pennant?

That's why you play the games.

Pretty good balance with Kepler, Arraez, Rosario all left handed. Polanco has more power left handed. Back ups are Avila, Cave left handed and Adrianza, Gonzales switch hitters. IMHO roster well balanced.

As many of us had stated we were going to sign a low risk - (hopefully) high reward. My guess is we will sign at least one more of this type pitcher. Having as many options as possible is what the FO should and has been doing. One more minor league contract for a major league vet would be nice and pick from as the spring training goes.

    Nice job FO....

    From Lavelle:

    Interest in Walker
The Twins are finalizing their list of nonroster invites to spring training. One pitcher they are interested in bringing in is a former highly touted righthander: Taijuan Walker.
Walker, 27, has thrown just 14 innings over the past two seasons because of Tommy John surgery in April 2018. He was picked 43rd overall by the Mariners in 2010, and touched 98 miles per hour before surgery.
The Twins view him as a bounce-back candidate who could help the rotation while Michael Pineda serves his suspension for taking a banned substance and Rich Hill completes his rehabilitation from elbow surgery. Walker would have to prove his health first, then work on his command and secondary pitches, issues he dealt with before he was injured.
Walker is 31-31 with a 3.95 ERA in 97 career games, 94 of them starts.
