5 hits and 9 strikeouts (against some pretty average- at best - pitching).
Either a) the "promise" is worthless, or b) the offense in that hog-confinement pit wasn't even close to floating!
Pretty sure the actual answer is "c)", all of the above.   Truly sad to see.  Almost as sad as it is painful to watch...
Been a Twins fan long enough to remember rooting for Roy Smalley in his prime.  Long enough to actually be able to compare the Buteras.  Long enough to have seen Killabrew at the old Met.  This year's team is simply the most unwatchable team I can remember.  Not the worst team, just the worst to watch.
The worst part?  No one seems to care enough to try to improve their performance.  Case in point, an unnamed 9th year vet, career sub .200 hitter, doing NOTHING to cut down on his universally acknowledged mega-weakness.  And if he has done something, it has been nothing positive as he is hitting worse than his career average AND now striking out over 40% of the time for this season. (and approaching 50% over the last two months!)  And he is about as close to being an everyday player that we have, judging by the lineup cards being turned in every day by Mr. Roboto...
Can't even imagine how bad this would be if they had an average Twins pitching staff.... but it'd likely provide solace to this year's Royals fans.
The old adage is that a fish rots from the head.  Unfortunately, that rotting head has spread throughout the entire fish since about 2016.  November of 2016 to be more precise...

See what happens when pitchers get run support?  Makes winning much less hard work.

So far over six games, the promise has been kept.

I can't think of a WORSE signing by the Twins in many years.
Anyone who shows even an occasional pulse with the Yankees is touted as an all-star (at worst).  Don't pull a Canseco in the field, and you are a gold glover!  Just show potential with one tool and you'll be a prospect into your early 30s.
He is very expensive Kingman or Adam Dunn.  A black hole anywhere in the lineup, utterly overrated on defense, and worst of all the exact opposite of what you want as a veteran leader (the lesson he shows is that you'll earn the yearly salary of a small town while producing next to nothing while doing NOTHING to adapt your game to improve yourself).
I thought coming into the season that he was about as bad of a FA signing as the Twins could have made last off-season.   Now, halfway through the season, he has been even worse than I feared.
If the front office is serious about being a contender this year, there is simply ONE option: eat half the contract and DFA him immediately.  Basically anyone can replace him as an overall player.
Leave it to the Twins to find a way to somehow get rid of a lineup albatross (Sano) and replace him with the Bizarro World version of said albatross...

Gallo is on pace to produce 56 RBI. That is $232,142.85 per RBI. Is that a “deal”?  Is that what the FO was hoping for?

Gallo has one of the highest on base percentages on the offense.  I think only Killeroff and Solano are higher with Lewis when he gets more At Bats. He leads the team in HRs too so how is it empty?  Yes I think he needs a higher batting average and more productive outs too but he is more positive in the lineup then most of the rest of the line up.  If anything Kepler should cede playing time except that Larnarch hasn’t beaten him out either.  If he did He would be the starter.

We did not even think Castro would be on the team.  It was a minor league signing and how much have we played him?  I think he is a big surprise and Baldelli sure seems to like him.
Vasquez is constantly in TD comments.  Jeffers is surpassing him and he was expected to do much more.
Everyone on TD should know by now I do not like Gallo and all the stats and comments will not change it.  I did not like Dunn or Kingman either and they were better than Gallo.

Sadly, we know exactly how a Goldschmidt trade would go, though. He'd get his ankle crushed by a freak collision at 1B in his first inning in the field. The prospects the Twins lost would go on to become stud rookie All-Star candidates in 2024. No thank you. This FO has angered the gods - we've already gotten too much proof.

It is highly likely Keps run with the Twins will soon come to an end.  Will that be at the trade deadline, maybe, more likely not.  Will it be at the end of the season, probably.  But as long as he is a Twin, there is a chance, albeit tiny, that he is back next year.
So with the likelihood that Max will be leaving either soon or at year end, why do writers like you continue to pile on.  Does a week go by without someone on this site writing a negative article about Max?  Heck, this is the second in the last 24 hours.  Everyone in the Twins universe knows Max hasn't been hitting for a long time.
He is a heck of a defensive right fielder and that ball the other night was a crazy bounce that I don't think anyone could have played right.  Will he build on the last couple games and put a charge into the Twins for the rest of the year?  Probably not.  But Max has been a class act who I for one am happy was a Twins for these last whatever years.  And should the Twins move on from him at year end, I wouldn't be surprised if Max retires at a very young age.

I don't know why I thought this--probably read it on the Internet somewhere, which means it must be true--but I was under the impression that Buxton at DH was an April thing.   I thought at least part of the money he was getting was for his glovework as well as his hitting.

If the Twins are ever going to seriously challenge for a championship, they need to extract more value from contracts that what they are paying. Buxton needs to play in the field, even at the risk of injury. Him just DHing doesn't move the needle enough. They need to put him in CF and let the chips fall where they may....

Matt, Thanks for an average article. I had hoped that by June your articles would improve, but as we all know, it takes time. As Gardy used to say; "It's a long season." I must say that I enjoyed some of it, but some of it was just ok and some of it was ranked with the weakest articles appearing in TD. Over-all your writing skills in this article were probably ok currently. Please keep writing your daily articles. They will probably be fine.

I wish I could enjoy the rare treat of watching an excellent Twins pitching staff, but this offense isn’t just ineffective. The homerun-or-bust strategy takes away all my aesthetic enjoyment of baseball offense.
I was disappointed in how this lineup was built, because it’s not my preferred style- but even so, I would never have imagined how unproductive it would be.
The best things this team has going are a wonderful rotation, a few great relievers, and an unimaginably dreadful division.
Amazing that the stink of this offense is “outshining” all that.

Lewis must STAY far away from CF. I don’t want to see his ridiculous talent on the IL again from banging into walls. Let’s be grateful he can play both SS and 3rd. Also, 4th option. I think it’s quite possible we have future CF in either Jenkins or Clark.

I thought of this idea awhile ago and love it. Maeda hasn't look especially dominant as a starter and at his age and with his injury history, how will he hold up as the season goes on? As a reliever he could both pitch multiple innings while also potentially being very good. If a starter gets knocked out of a game early, potentially due to injury (Like Maeda's last start) it wouldn't have to be an automatic loss for us if Maeda could come in and pitch 3 innings.
