You are very correct that he should be considered only as a DH. But he probably among the premier DHs. And why couldn't the Twins be a perennial contender? Extend Maeda and Mahle and you have a top 5 starting rotation, a strong bullpen, good defense, and a decent offense. That sounds to me like the blueprint for a perennial contender.
