Maybe Driveline improvements are one of the reasons why Rocco has vowed to let the starters pitch deeper into games this year.

Rosie view of Maeda’s stuff. Good guy but……I like him but he has to grind to get guys out. He may throw 90-91 so control is a big deal. His change/screwball is unique and he does have good movement. Will he be able to control his off speed well enough is the question? 19 months off from competition. Hope you’re right - Fingers crossed on this guy!!

Yes, Buck does need to stay healthy. But he also needs to be allowed to play to earn his bonus money for plate appearances. Last year he only had 382 plate appearances and didn't earn any bonus money. If Rocco is too conservative with him, then he's going to be disappointed if it's due to Rocco keeping him off the field. As long as he's healthy he should play. And the Twins will have a better chance of winning the Division with him being in the lineup.
    Plate Appearances
    $500,000 each for 502, 533, 567, 600, 625

If he has a healthy season and hits well, Buxton can make big bonus money depending on how many  MVP votes that he receives. The shift ban could eventually help to reward him with many millions of $$, so he has plenty of incentive. In the past, he's placed 18th & 16th in MVP voting.
    Annual MVP Bonuses:
    1st: $8M
    2nd: $7M
    3rd: $6M
    4th: $5M
    5th: $4M
    6th-10th: $3M

Thanks Ted, you made my day. I'm really excited what kind of #s Buck will come up with this season. I love his philosophy, hit the ball hard, nothing very complicated.

I think he might be a Carl Willis style middle reliever.  He doesn’t have the lights out velocity to his pitches, but a lot of movement and deception. I would be all for us converting him to a relief role. If he starts the season in AAA and gets a track record going I see a chance.

I think Bailey Ober, Josh Winder, Simeon Woods-Richardson, Jordan Balazovic, Connor Prielipp, Louis Varland, even Marco Raya have so much more upside as a starter than him.

Within that list above I see ace potential. It’s a very deep list of starters with upside and I expect a few of them to be dominant relievers if they don’t make it as a starter.

I am all for Dobnak to be Carl Willis 2.0. For those of you that don’t remember Willis was our second most dominant relief option to Rick Aguilera in our last title team in 1991. There is a place for that in a bullpen today as a change of pace to our 95mph + relievers.

I'm not sure that an ace is even available this year that would take the Twins to contender status. But Rocco is on the hot seat since BARRING INJURIES, if he wants the credit for wins then he needs to also take the blame for losses. He simply needs to find a way to win with the players that we have. We can't blame it on aces that we don't have or necessarily need. We need to win with a combination of good ball play and good moves. Bench the players that don't produce and let someone else play. Rocco needs to act and players need to play like their jobs depend on it. Develop the winning formula, that's how pro baseball is supposed to work without any excuses.

I know everyone is sick and tired of talking about injuries or any excuses involved in such, but I simply have to believe the lockout had an enormous affect across the league last year. Nobody was allowed ANY contact whatsoever with coaches or trainers linked to their clubs. I mean, my goodness, there was a story about Buxton's family coming down with covid and he couldn't even speak with anyone from the Twins about meds, test kits, or anything else.
When do we have to be ready? When does ST start? How long of a ST will we have? Am I following a good plan of action since I can't ask anyone? I mean, these guys are professionals, but they are also usually under direct supervision of their clubs staff and trainers to follow a regiment. Gray not only didn't have that, but he was distracted by being a player rep. He wasn't ready when 2023 began. Ober changed his delivery and routine in 2021 to remain healthy and it was accomplished. Then comes the lockout and all the restrictions and he ends up with a serious lower abdominal issue. Fluke? Stuff like this just happens? Or the result of losing his routine and ramp up and assistance that he had for a fully healthy 2021?
Regarding Mahle specifically, he's been very open that he states his shoulder issue/tired arm happened due to all of the above, and then trying to pitch "normal" in regard to pitches and innings. He seemed normal with the Reds, then spent some time on the IL, then looked good when he came back. He looked good his first couple of games with the Twins before OOF!
From everything I've heard and read, there was never any pain. Exams and multiple MRI's showed nothing other than standard/expected inflammation you would see in a ML arm. So until something else happens, I'm in the camp that his explanation is the correct one and he's fine and going to be fine.
Interesting comments, though, about his slider as I wasn't under the impression he had any issues with it. Finding more comfort with it can only be a good thing!
He's out of Cincinnati now, and his career numbers out of there are much better, overall, than they were when pitching at home. He also just turned 28yo in September. There are exceptions, of course, but I believe history shows that a front of the rotation SP hits his stride of stuff and experience coalescing into their best production from ages 27-33. He's just in that sweet spot now.
I'm on record as saying that if he is indeed 100% and ready to go, out of Cincinnati, throwing half his games in Target Field, he will probably be the Twins #1 starter in 2023. And if so, I'm really hoping the Twins are going to be signing him to a 4-5yr extension. The $ should be available.

sun got a reaction from MGX in Can Nick Gordon Handle Third Base?
I think it's silly to compare his throws from 2B to throws from 3B because 2nd basemen don't need to throw hard. But his arm from SS was just fine as was his nearly 100 mph throws from the OF.
Any SS worth his salt can play 3B. There's not one credible source for the statements that are being made that Nick will never play the infield again. That's pure honkey-tonk. If Farmer, Polanco, Correa or Miranda get injured then Nick can play anywhere in the infield. If any player in the OF gets injured then Nick can play anywhere in the outfield.
Why in the world would the Twins trade Arraez if Gordon couldn't fill his shoes and more.
The negative comments about Nick's many talents just don't make any sense. He adjusted his swing to provide more power as he was asked to do, and he has one of the nicest swings on the team. And he knows how to bunt and run the bases. IMO too many fans are looking at a gift horse in the mouth. He was a bona fide 1st round pick that had a slow track of development that's finally paying off. Maybe some fans simply don't like that he now displays more talent and durability than some of their favorite prospects. I guess we'll see who produces, plays which positions and gets traded first.
I like Nick's hair color and I'm not going to trash him over it  it took some getting used to but it grew on me and doesn't bother me any more. I like it more than ever because I realized his talents are worth their weight in gold.
