It was a shame that they moved on from Anderson.  Other players bounced around before becoming good again. The takeaway could just as well be success elsewhere does not mean they would have success here

The rule v draft set Javier's prospect ranking. It should be a lot further down on a list. If any one of 29 teams thought he was a top 20 talent he would have been drafted.

Signing twos, threes and less was a Terry Ryan thing. Who knew he was ahead of his time?

An estimator showed roughly that OPS to runs were somewhere around 1 run per .1OPS. per year   The greatest defense in the world is not going to overcome 2 hr/game. which a starting lineup of 40 hr hitter will produce. A team of -20 DRS fielders would give away a run a game. The HR hitters wins.

The Wise One got a reaction from BigSkyTwinsFan in The New Management Team - How are they doing?
Belisle had a few bad outing. When they were bad, they were really bad. He ended up with better than league average numbers. It is not to say that it was a great signing, but it was nowhere near a bad signing.  Breslow was a placeholder for if, really when, the early season gambles like Tonkin failed. Not a great signing, but he was brought in to be expendable. With the late season emergence of Hildenberger and Busenitz, Breslow's role was completed.

Right handed bats as primary DH. Statistically Vargas had a better season than any of the part time  right handed DH/ bench  bats.  It would be nice to have a better bat. What was out there as a part timer?

Lottery tickets. Can't win if you do not play. The loss of Kintzler had little effect on the team. Relievers of his ilk get you lottery tickets,

All of those great available pitching coaches. The cynic in me asks if they are so great, why are they available? They do not have all of the answers. Management has an idea, a direction, a scheme. They hired someone who will carry that out. Complaining of others thinking they are so smart........

The chart shoes the value of getting the one player of the draft
08.09.10. and 11 are the valid comparison years as you really should have the players at least either mature, or have a few seasons to judge by. That is sort of the problem with trying to assess drafting, it takes a quite a few years. 2011 draft, number of high school players having played a full season not drafted in the top 10? Does that mean the scouting director did poorly? You do not have the data to know if solid players were picked. It seems like more and more players are not hitting their stride until 25 except for the exceptional player. The 2009 high school draftees would be in that group, 2011 college players.

What is presented is showing that it pays to be lucky to draft the exception player near the top of the draft. Any team with a big number more often than not had an early draft pick. Valid research, once again a wrong conclusion from the author

It means that you will work until you are 70 because you will have to feed your habit. Yu might not be able to do that retired. Those 10-11 years will go by quickly
