The Mad King reacted to davidborton in How did you become a Twins fan?
Hey, North Tonawanda here! We were Buffalo Bison and Cleveland fans (1270 AM out of Niagara Falls).
Why Twins? Geography. Kids were both in the Cities when we retired 10 yrs ago and I got out voted on Denver. Where my feet are becomes my loyalty.
Go Twins.

I grew up in Buffalo. Half the kids were Yankees fans, the other half just picked the winning teams. My grandmother was in Minnesota and sent me a pennant, tee shirt, and poster. I looked in the newspaper and saw names like Killebrew, Carew, Olivia... And they happened to be in the playoffs against the O's. Nobody else liked the Twins. They've been mine every since. Through the crappy Cal Griffen years. I felt so vindicated when they won it all in 87.

The Mad King got a reaction from Danielspr in A great problem
I believe Correa has a no trade clause, so trading him isn't that simple. We still have holes in left and first base. Can Lewis play either? I've been under the belief that we keep drafting SS because they have the athleticism to play elsewhere. Keep them both is my thought.

This is true I forgot about Miranda. An OPS+ of just 13 with meh defense definitely won't cut it here. I would argue that we've already proven that we can stay competitive without Sano We've got Arraez, Kirilloff, and Miranda who have some experience at 1B. Lewis can slot in if needed, and after showing his versatility, I wouldn't be opposed to Nick Gordon over there either. With how careful we're being with Buxton, we can't afford a dedicated DH.
I do think we're forgetting Trevor Larnach and how he's tearing the cover off the ball this year so far. I would pencil him in as our starting LF once he comes back from his oblique strain. I could see him DHing when Buxton is in CF, so we can get Lewis some reps in at LF.
There's no such thing as too much depth. Right?

Jkeady12 is spot on. When I watch the Twins and we get to the eighth or ninth when we have the lead, it is similar to ice fishing with no hut, you are going to shake!

Having just gone through covid myself (which hardly makes me unique here, or in any audience), I'll just say that in early onset you may still test negative, and the symptoms can be mild enough to make you question your own judgement. In the space of a few hours physical weakness can begin to overcome you.
Bundy testing positive right after the game leaves a very wide range of possible scenarios for how that day went. Lacking more information than we have, I'm inclined to give him a mulligan, and hope that he's recovered fully so that his next start can be taken at face value.
Sorry, we've gone completely off-topic here. Pagan. Pagan. Right. Yeah, I have the same general problem with him, except as I've said elsewhere, I've chosen to be philosophical about him, and treat his appearances as theater. High theater, low comedy, burlesque - it may not matter which, and I willingly give him credit for the first while accepting it may devolve into either of the other two. But in no case is he killing me. Emilio Pagan's tightrope act is entertaining me. You're entertaining me, Smalls.

I think Bundy went on the COVID list. I would hope he didn't have symptoms during the game, although it's possible he was off enough to affect his performance. It's also possible getting shelled had no medical cause whatsoever.

Wynegar looks like he's 12, and Kusick looks like he's playing slowpitch softball in a 35+ beer league...... LOL

The Mad King got a reaction from Brandon in Risk vs Reward
I'm gonna guess the twins have some sort of insurance on players that would cover them in the event of comet strike. Or even blown out knee.
For me, the risk is that we find out during the course of the year that neither Lewis or Martin is capable of becoming the heir apparent, Correa bolts, and they didn't address it at the trading deadline...
I'll take your word on ask the WAR calculations!

As if my post wasn't long enough, I probably should have clarified that I wasn't trying to identify every risk. If we make it successfully through 2022 but there is no clarity about the SS prospects being ready to take over, well, the FO will have to figure something else out for next year. But that has more to do with the prospects themselves, than this new contract.

If it makes you feel better Marwin Gonzales was a 2017 Astro too, so we can already forget that. There's still Bregman to hate.

The Mad King reacted to tarheeltwinsfan in What are we waiting on to complete our roster?
I agree it is beyond the time to get off the pot. We had the SS problem solved, but then 35 hours later, the FO traded K-F to the evil empire, for a second string catcher and an average 3B (remember Miranda is due a shot at 3B, based on his performance last year). We fans all thought there must be a plan to sign Story, but we were mistaken. Apparently there was no plan to sign Story, just a wish and a prayer.
