Ok, Ok, A little balance is good here. I agree that unconscionable is a strong word but I also agree that Correa on the back of the Jersey does matter because he has MANY seasons of proving that name to mean something. Streaks, slumps and SSS of the season up to this point are meaningless. Streaks end, Slumps are broken and Correa is a proven commodity. ($35.1 Million worth)
Yes, Celestino struggled as a rookie and isn't a world beater but we are still dealing with a SSS on him and what he has done so far does not 100% represent what he will be. Is it possible he turns out to be an All Star someday? Yes, that is possible. Is it possible that his numbers never improve at the MLB level. That is also possible. We just don't know.
Both (All?) arguments presented on this topic so far are valid to me so let us agree to allow others to have their opinions even if we are sure they are wrong.

Can we please pump the brakes a bit on Celestino?  He hit .136 in 59 AB (8 hits) last season.  He has had all of 37 AB this season - 4 hits in April & 8 hits so far in May.  That's a .208 BA in 96 career AB.
I'm rooting for the kid, but it's much too soon to conclude that he has "made it."  I do feel better about him playing when Buxton is unavailable than I did last year.  But I still think it was risky to start the season without a reserve OF who has some track record of success.

It would be Lewis.  Canterino next.  Absolutely nothing against Steer but with Urshela and now Miranda to go with Arraez there's not really a clear a pathway yet for Steer.
Lewis however, even with Correa could still play OF and if the bat to ball skills continue, Lewis could be very much like Buxton...if he stays healthy, and PLAYS, he's going to do good things.  I wouldn't mind seeing Canterino up and pitching out of the pen.  I'd use him in low stress innings and just kind of bring him along slowly.
At some point, since he's pitched so few innings these last couple years you've got to believe they will shut him down.  But I'd like to see how that "STUFF" plays up in the big leagues and handle him with care.

Give Miranda a chance - he has nothing left to prove at the minor league level. I worry a lot more about Minnesota's catching depth (quality-wise) than I do about first base.

What an opportunity for Miranda. Kid has a shot to get his feet wet and cement himself on the big club for a long time. We were getting zero production from Sano, so Rocko can have some patience with Miranda.

Definitely looks like an opportunity for both Miranda and Arraez to play every day.

Arraez isn't good at 2B or 3B, so why not try him at 1B?

He's a bit short for a first baseman, but Luke Skywalker was a little short for a Stormtrooper and things worked out pretty well for him.

I was dumbfounded that Baldelli chose to let Celestino bat in the bottom of the 9th inning with RISP rather than PH with Correa.  That was an unconscionable choice - sending a career .130 hitter to the plate instead of Correa.  IF resting a starter means not bringing him into the game under ANY circumstances, then the Twins had better carry at least one more bench player and one fewer RP.

To shorten game times & accelerate pace of play, foul balls should NOT be UNLIMITED.  Invoke a maximum limit of foul balls after which the pitcher would be credited with a K and the AB ended.
Also, the sacrifice fly should be eliminated.  The batter should be charged with an AB.  Rarely is a batter "sacrificing" their AB on a SF play.  They're trying to hit the ball as far as possible.  That's not even close to the same thing as laying down a bunt to advance a baserunner.

Hmmm.  I had forgotten about Upton being a FA.  I wouldn't mind him on the Twins roster for the veteran's minimum salary.
Celestino should definitely be returned to St Paul if he's going to be used that situationally.

I know we disagree on this, but I appreciate your reasons here. I think we'll now be much worse in late innings without Rogers, and I fear Paddock's UCL tear will become a very big issue. But here's hoping you're right.

Wait. Ober moves to the pen? He was clearly their best starting pitcher to finish the year. He also looked as good as anyone else in Spring Training.

Bumping Ober to the pen would be the wrong move, mainly because Ober is a better pitcher than Paddack. Archer is not stretched out, so I'm guessing someone will be splitting innings with him for the first few weeks. I would put Paddack in the pen until the situation works itself out.

Not sure how Ober's development is served moving to BP if that is what will happen. He earned a shot to further establish himself in mid-rotation. I would not be slotting Paddack ahead of Ober. Paddack now joins Bundy and Archer in line, and hopefully none of those three prove detrimental to developing the Winders/Balz's et al.
