I would like the Twins to acquire Paul DeJong from St. louis. He is not going to set the world on fire offensively, but certainly way ahead of what they had last season. And his defense is good. St. Louis seems to want to move on, too. They have been mentioned in connection with Trevor Story for sure.

I vote for adding a glove guy like Iglesias and spend big on Buxton and pitching.

Twins have options this off season.  If you can trade Kepler, Kiriloff or Sano for pitching then absolutely bring Cruz back. Cruz has been our most consistent bright spot the last few years.  Otherwise I am in the pitching needs to be the priority crowd. Enjoyed your article. Thanks

One of Sano/Kepler  has to go. Opens a spot for Kirilloff.

I'd also deal Arraez if there is a market. Not sure he's worth as much as people think.

We want 'big hauls' for the regulars we might trade. I just don't think those things exist anymore. First and second and everywhere else...get Buxton signed. He is the centerpiece of the team. Lose him and you are drifting aimlessly in the AL Central again. He is more valuable to the Twins than what he would yield in a trade. Some may disagree, but you can't trade your star and really expect to get better. It could happen, but I don't like the odds. Twins need to get real serious with Buck. then anything they do after that is fine with me.

If they plan to retain Pineda and didn’t receive any decent offers, I can understand keeping him.
I literally would have given Simmons away to anyone who would take him.

I am as stunned as everyone else. I have been rather forgiving of all the mistakes this FO has made this year, but this...
The likes of Nick Vincent and Kyle Barraclough are still on this roster. The FO can't seriously believe they're better than Colina?
The only explanation I can come up with and that even remotely makes sense to me is Colina's injury being much worse than previously believed. So bad that the Twins don't think he can ever be an effective Major League pitcher again.
But if they still believed in him and just wanted to sneak him off the roster, this move is a major blunder.

It's interesting how a season can finish up. Two months ago we were talking about how the Twins needed to completely overhaul the entire pitching staff, might need 4 new starters and major reinforcements in the bullpen. Now? Neither the rotation nor the bullpen looks nearly as dire.
Ober & Ryan look like guys who can be counted on for next year. Pineda is also a guy that likes it here, is well-liked by the team and could be signed at a reasonable rate for next year. (1 year at $6M? 2 for $12M with bonuses?) Yes, you shouldn't go into a season counting on Pineda to be healthy the full year...but as a guy to pitch effectively and hold the line to keep from rushing prospects in before they're really ready? He makes a lot of sense.
The same is on the bullpen: Duffey seems to have found his form again, Alcala has been excellent in the second half of the season, Thielbar has been terrific and the peripherals back up the gaudy W-L record, and if Taylor Rogers is back...maybe that's the core of a solid bullpen that gets augmented by a couple of internal options (Moran, Stashak, Coloumbe) and only needs 1-2 FA signings (best RH power arm they can find?) instead of needed a total overhaul. The offseason overhaul maybe already happening?
I hope they can work out a deal with Buxton in the offseason. He's got star power, he wants to be here...and it's a bet worth taking. The last week or so of the season won't change my mind on this, even if he went 0-30.

I don’t see how he would have any trade value. There will several fringe 40 man roster players available. I suppose a trade like the Wade deal is possible. I fear saying that because this is not a thread about Wade and some might derail it. The kind of return would be similar is my point.

I think Gant is a starter next year given his effectiveness before injury and the current starting rotation situation. So I think the bullpen goes like this:
    AAAA Long reliever
    Garza Jr
    Minaya
    Thielbar
    Alcala
    Duffey
    Rogers
    Quality FA set up/closer

For me on this game for Strotman, I'd probably say one of his better ones while he's been with the Saints, but it still wasn't necessarily what you'd like to see. He made himself work for it with 96 pitches, the three walks, and giving up two home runs.
Definitely a step in the right direction, but Strotman hasn't been very good yet since coming over:

I don't see why they would bring him up at this point unless they move him to the bullpen to take a chance on his fastball/cutter combo.
SWR was fun to watch in this one! He's one guy I especially would like to see in the AFL this October.

I would be willing to give him a 1 year low pay contract.  If he is healthy he is a good starter, not great, but good.  If he is not healthy or is not effective it does not hurt to move on from him.  I just would hope they would not keep throwing him out there like Happ this year.
