It is far more necessary that he stays next year than what follows.  Twins would have bring in another SS next year, until Lewis is ready (assuming Lewis can stay there for the next few years).  I am hoping he stays, leadership is a big factor and he is showing it.  Boris may try and bluff more money out, I am hoping the Twins do not bite if that is the case.  Locking up a great pitching staff is more important than any one player.  Twins have the makings of a very good pitching staff next year (at the currant time only lowing Fulmer(who I am hoping they can resign) and maybe Bundy (who can be replaced).

If Boras doesn't see a mega-contract out there for Correa, Carlos may well opt in and bet on himself to get that mega-deal after a more successful 2023. The irony is that the worse Correa performs for the balance of the season, the more likely he is to stay with the Twins for the coming season.
I really would like him to stay and for the Twins to go for it again in 2023. The pieces should be there.

Given his interest in what happened and communication with the front office at the trade deadline makes for an interesting prospect of him returning.  He acted as though he had a vested interest, not just for this year, but also for the future with his comments regarding Miranda.  I'd like him to stay, if for no other reason than there isn't another answer at SS right now.

Am I greedy, or is okay to wish for one more reliever? Please trade Joey Bagadoughnuts for a mid-tier bullpen arm. Please?
It already feels like Christmas, though.

Its ok to feed the greed once in a while.  lets get one more shut down reliever to shut down the Yanks offense in the playoffs....

They definitely need it, Jax-Lopez-Duran is a nice start but needs work. It's not out of the question that one of them gets hurt the next two months, so it wouldn't hurt to improve the depth and prevent one of Duffey/Smith/Pagan from throwing in a very important outing.

Steep price, but if Twins are happy with Miranda (and they should be), those two are blocked at 3B.  I'm a little surprised they would trade two 3B prospects, although Steer might be more likely a 2B.  The Twins don't have a regular in the lineup over 30, so it was time to dump some prospects for SP.  I'm still perturbed they didn't just spend in FA for a starter, but this is a good option after the fact.  The additional year of control for Mahle helps.

I like all three of our prospects that we moved here, but CES is the only one where I get a little squidgy about letting him go. Steer is a nice player, but we're trading from depth there with Miranda looking strong. Hajjar might be a quality starter, but has a ways to go. CES is the guy that I thought might be a special hitter, though, and I hate to give that up.
That said, we needed more pitching, and Mahle isn't just a rental. He'll slot in nicely right now when we need him to right the ship and be good to go for next year's rotation too. It's the right move, i think. And like how they're not willing to let this season slip away. I like how they are adding in players that aren't just rentals.
Mahle. yeah, I like that guy.

I'm OK with giving up Steer... but including CEH hurts. That's 3 top 20 prospects for Mahle, who is a fine starter but nothing special. We desperately need a starter like him who can go the distance but he's not going to be a difference-maker in the playoffs.
I wouldn't be shocked if the Reds eventually 'win' this trade in a few years' time... but we could offset this by inking Mahle to an extension.

That's a lot to give up, but two years of Mahle softens the blow. All three prospects will likely be big leaguers, but if the Twins want to win this year, this is the kind of deal they have to make.

Correa and Seager aren't that fast either and yet they play there and Correa even won a platinum glove.  More than Half of Shortstop is positioning and being able to make good throws.  Nick Gordon is fast and has a good arm but the Twins don't play him at short much and even when they do he is pretty error prone and has been his whole minor league career.  Polanco's issue was throwing as well he just didn't have the arm to make the throws and made lot's of errors as well.
With a slower speed is the team willing to gamble the player won't get to a few balls he should but can make all the other plays and throws?  That is the question you need ask about Lee.  Also with the shift and focus on lifting balls you can hide a lack of speed but you can't hide a guy who can't make the throws.  That is why some scouting services like fangraph's think Lee can stick there if the Twins want to try him there.  Most see him moving off of short but I believe the same was said about Seager as well.  Odds are he moves off but just have to wait and see how he does there first IMO.

I didn't. I thought there was a decent chance he went first. And a slim chance he'd drop out of the Top 5.
I also didn't see Rocker and Horton going before the Twins.

Duffey always has had, and always will have his ups and downs.  I wouldn't consider him a closer, and even as the 8th inning guy he makes me nervous in a tight game, but I still want him in the 8 man mix.  He has a good demeanor and appears to be able to keep it during a long 162 game season.  He is one of those guys who needs to be managed well and put into situations designed to help him succeed.  I wonder at times if Rocco is the guy to do that, but with the right coaching staff he has the ability to be better than average.  It will be interesting to see if he stays next year or moves on.

On June 19th of 2016 I was in Chicago for a leadership conference. I arrived a day early and took the Red Line to the Addison stop. Pirates vs. Cubs.
In the 6th inning, Wilson Contreras pinch hit for Kyle Hendricks, who dominated the Pittsburgh batters, with 12 k's--one run.
It was Contreras' first MLB plate appearance. Contreras faced AJ Schugel with two outs and on on. Boom! Contreras hit a two-run home run over the ivy in center.
Yes, Contreras would be the only upgrade on this list. At bat, and behind the plate.

A deal for for Contreras only makes sense if the front office studies his defensive metrics at age 30 (what's up with the -6 DRS this year?). If they conclude that Contreras can improve the bullpen, handle Twins starters better than Jeffers & Sanchez, and bring valued playoff experience behind the plate for a postseason run--then a deal may make sense.
The bat comes with the glove, of course...
