Ask Kansas City, Toronto, or Pittsburgh - a LONG time sometimes.

I expect the Twins will be relevant again before San Diego, or Houston, who've been down for a lot longer.

My one hope would be continued improvement on the part of everybody.

Much has been made lately of Plouffe's arrival as a respectable MLB 3rd baseman, and Dozier's all-around game, and even Escobar's as a reasonable MLB SS - if Arcia, Hicks, Gibson see similar improvement next season, and guys like Vargas and Santana continue their current level, they could at least become a middle of the pack team and set the stage for the uber prospects' arrival.

At the time, contraction seemed a heavy handed attempt to make the Selig family owned Brewers the only team in the upper Midwest. Wouldn't that have been convenient?

I've spent the last two years criticizing his defensive play.

So Much so... That I won't criticize him this year. I'm not looking at defensive WAR... I'm just using my eyeball. He's moving right and he's moving left. He's getting to baseballs that he didn't get to last year. He's getting dirty when his uniform was clean in years past. He's making the majority of plays he should make and he's making a few plays that he shouldn't make.

In order to fair... If he deserved criticism in past years and I think he did deserve it. In my mind... He deserves praise this year.

The work that he has put in this year is noticeable to me.

I've always felt that players can and do get better. Trevor is an example of that.

From that article, it sounds like Plouffe is well-grounded in reality about his abilities, and works hard to make up for his shortcomings. I like that brand of professionalism.

Would it make sense for him to go to Ft. Myers and play about half as much? They wanted him to play a lot. They wanted Stuart Turner to play a lot. It made sense. It was his first full year. Have to play somewhere. They like him enough to want him to play a lot.

When you trade for guys or sign them via free agency, and they go on to have historically bad seasons, like Vanimal, like Nolasco, and now, like Milone, something's gotta give.

Maybe Anderson gets some credit, for Hughes, but not necessarily.

Our rotation needs a new approach, and letting Anderson go would be a nice first step.

The Twins have the worst ERA for starting pitching over the last 5 years.

It isn't getting better as we are dead last again this year.  Rick Anderson has been the pitching coach during that entire tenure and he absolutely needs to be held accountable for this poor performance and be let go from this team.

For me the biggest is Santana, yes he was a top ten prospect, but his numbers at the ML level is better than anything he has put up in the minors, and he is playing a position he has not played at all in the last few years and almost not at all in his career.  Not only are they better they are much much better.  Highest average before ML level .297 last year, highest OBP was .343 all the way back in Dominican league, highest slugging was .426 all the way back in Dominican league too.  His K-BB walk rate is what I was expecting, which he should hopefully improve, but his history does not suggest that.  However, overall I was not expecting him to hit like this for this long.

Not sure Ron would make my short list.

Mint would be an interesting choice if you want your manager to have some fire in his belly.

If you prefer the cerebral approach, then Molitor is your guy.

Carew could be a sort of hybrid. Never heard his name as a potential manager.

Sadly, all are somewhat internal candidates though.

Monkeypaws got a reaction from diehardtwinsfan in Article: The New Top Twins Pitching Prospect?
Regardless of who who you think is #1 now, they both would have been #1 5 years ago; nice problem to have, Berrios, Meyer, plus Stewart, true potential front line guys. When has that ever happened for this team? We ain't talking Mark Redmond, Jason Bell, and Dan Serafini here. Or Baker, Slowey, Blackburn. Or Mills, Johnson, whoever.

Add in Gonsalves, Thorpe, maybe Cederoth.

This has been a layer of starting pitching the Twins prospect pool has never had in my time, except if you consider Santana -Liriano, but they both seemed to make their case at the major league level.

The pen looks to be in good shape for the future as well.

Last night was fun to watch, I imagine it was a teaser tho, and the A team will be back on the field tonight.... Note that Arcia ripped two balls to the left side, and these were off legitimate go with the pitch situations. No matter what, it has been a long time since this club had the potential for this kind of power, and I might add, athleticism!

Hu absolutely should rocket up the prospect lists this year. As much "stuff" as any Kernels starting pitcher (and more variety of pitches). Everything he throws has movement. Excellent composure on the mound. Saw him get a little frustrated exactly once this summer.
