I know Urshela and Sanchez only have a .5 WAR between them but it sure feels like they have contributed more than that.   There is WAR as a statistical construct and I have faith in that in the long run but then there is WAR as an abstract and these guys seem to shine lately in that category.   Two game winning hits in consecutive games does little for the WAR statistic.

I've projected Godoy as a third catcher making the club and I would expect Sanchez to DH occasionally. If the Twins don't DH Sanchez frequently most of the DH at-bats would go to Sano, with Kirlloff then getting more duty at first base. I see no role for Rooker on this team, particuarly since he had reverse splits as far as hitting left handed pitching. Celestino is the best fit for backup outfielder (RH hitter, center field capable, decent running speed and defense), but the question is whether he (and the Twins) would be better served by him getting playing time at St. Paul.

Very well written article.  I agree with all of your analysis on Sano.  He definitely has been an up and down player.  I can't see any way the Twins pick up his option after this year.  But then again I can't see why any pitchers ever throw him a strike with the fastball.  Breaking ball outside corner gets him nearly everytime.

This sums it up perfectly. The rotation can beginwth Gray, but when the next three are Bundy, Ober, and Ryan, there's not enough depth or experience to make the playoffs unless the front office expects to win win 50 or 60 games with scores of 9-7

Let's not overlook this element from the article "The Twins could offer a clear everyday role at shortstop, but if Story is prioritizing a winning club, it’s a bit of a tougher sell for a 73-win Twins club — even if they’ve acquired Sonny Gray and made some other moves signaling a desire to contend in 2022."
The best bet is Story going to the Giants or the Red Sox

For me it is about how good the American League is looking this year.  It's possible that the East produces four 90 win teams again.
Houston should be solid again, Seattle, LAA, and maybe texas could be interesting.
The Twins better do really well against central teams.

Yes indeed it would be a easy answer. We wouldn't need to sign a big $ FA, No blow back from small but loud fan base to sign a bounce back candidate Simmons or a poor FA SS candidate or FO wouldn't have to trade for a true SS (which they hate to do). But is it the sane thing to do?
Why would this FO negate the best move they have ever made? SS isn't his natural position, he's confused how to throw to 1st base (which causes throwing errors) and physically his ankles can't  take it (with every game shows digression). Bad ankles directly effects his hitting which negates the advantage of his hitting prowess. 2B you need someone who has range and Arraez has none. It pains me to see GBs that bleed  through the infield when he plays there, 2B is his worse position.
Many times in life the easiest solution isn't the best. I'd rather go the less easy routes. Trade for a true SS or Sign Story or Simmons or even Goodrum and let him, Palacio and Lewis fight it out. The last has a lot of ?s and is risky but is better than the recipe for disaster which is putting Polanco back at SS.
This is a good debate for "forever Arraez no matter what" fans, which can't get over their sentiment for Arraez. Although it's entertaining to watch his ABs, his best value for the Twins is what he can give us via an injunction  trade for frontline SP. Putting Polanco at SS and Arraez at 2B is no viable option that should be entertained.

Trading for Adelberto Mondesi (KC) or Paul DeJong (Cardinals) may cost a lower level arm (but not a leg).  Both of them are better options IMHO than Polanco back at SS.

It would be good for a bunch of AAAA players. One new team in each league would kill the excuse for inter-league play during the season. It would mean restructuring the divisions to create, probably, 4 in each league, Some positives there. Portland and Nashville seem reasonable both for geographic and historical reasons.

The U. S. population has tripled in the past 100 years. Baseball has grown enormously in many countries outside of the United States. There are plenty of players and there are a number of cities that would support baseball. Yes, baseball should add two teams.
Where is a little more controversial. Everyone will have their own ideas. My quick response would be Portland, Oregon and Montreal, Quebec.

This encapsulates the problem with trading Arraez..
Imagine Twins fans reaction to a hypothetical trade for someone like Berrios with the return being a singles hitter who may be a defensive liability and has bad knees.
