I would agree with you on most of this. I’m of the camp that every 1st round pick should be a high ceiling type of pitcher. I was dissatisfied with drafting sabato last year when there were hs arms available. This year I think we should have taken another HS pitcher instead of Noah Miller. I’m in the same camp as you pretty much. I only disagreed with the fact that you’re saying they haven’t developed one yet this year. I don’t know where the #1 was coming from this year in general as there wasn’t one to develop this year in the mlb that is. As far as drafting and signing high upside arms early and often. I think the twins should draft high upside arms with the first 3 picks every year. How do you increase your chance of winning the lottery? You buy lots of tickets!

Maybe this is satire. Maybe not. But I think this is a very disingenuous article not meant to be in this blog about baseball. Whether he is good or not does it really matter? Anti vax? Vaccinated? Who cares. I want to hear about legitimate baseball. These are highly politicized terms that mean nothing in this space. Or shouldn’t mean anything in this space. Or really others for that reason other than medical journals. In this day in age of cancel culture and censoring, taking political stances in a baseball blog and delegitimization of people based on baseball stats and baseball production seems icky. Why this is even tolerated in this space makes me want to walk away. No reason to get into these topics on here. This is supposed to be a place to get away. Devoid of political theatre. A place for enjoyment. If we’re gonna be doing this here then I guess this place is destined to become espn.com. Maybe that’s the goal? There’s already enough ad pop ups for it.

I loved the pick of petty!!! His swag, confidence, high energy, high upside, electric arm! Everything! He’s the antithesis of everything about the TR years and the epitome of the very thing going forward! He’s got 2 mlb pitches right now it looks like. If he can clean up his delivery and add an average changeup(or splitter) he’s got the stuff to move fast and be a legit #1 or #2

I’m not suggesting that the Twins can’t DFA anyone for any reason on or off the field.  The issue I have is with groups of people who aren’t attached to a company thinking that they have the right to have someone fired.  It’s happening way to frequently these days.  This mob rule mentality is misplaced power.  That is the first amendment argument.  Mobs don’t have the right to try restrain someone else’s first amendment right.

EXACTLY.   I have run into this in the business world multiple times over the last 10 years. Some guy wants to shoot his mouth off in the workplace and screams "1st Amendment" , when the company disciplines him for it.  The employer (Twins), would be well within their rights to send him down the road for anything they don't approve of.

I can appreciate the intent of this article - seemingly just to give you whatever thought process may develop.
I thought it was such an interesting situation when Simmons hit the team with Covid, because at the time it was believed his production would be mostly irreplaceable. If he were to infect everyone at a time that we were still trying to contend (and his production was this bad), I think he'd be gone (trying to convey a hypothetical, hope it worked).
On a serious note, I think it's ridiculous to say that athletes (or anyone) can't have an opinion and voice it like the rest of us (even though Simmons opinion here, and that of others of similar mind, is absolutely bat**** and dangerous).
Get your dang vaccine and stop endangering others with selfishness (goes for everyone, seriously!)

To me Jax and Ober are like found money you didn't think you had. The Odds of either of them making a difference at the MLB level was very low. So even as 4th or 5th starters they have ton of value considering we had been buying guys for those spots recently.  Also if something clicks you never know they might just be a mid number 3 starter.  At any rate if they can maintain their current production they are very valuable for the next 4 years.  Hopefully the other 8 guys can fill in a couple more spots and then maybe we only need one free agent pitcher or trade for a pitcher away from having a dominant staff.

How do you develop #1, #2 types up to the majors when they are not to that point yet? Falvine and Co. are just supposed to take ober, Jax, beau f’n burrows and make them into aces? Come on man. Stop being so negative. Takes years to develop a prospect. Also with a whole lost season. Really?

And he’ll probably be there at 5 since it sounds like he’s not going back to Vanderbilt. I’d take rocker if he’s there. Like gunnarthor said I’d probably take the top college pitcher that’s available. No more OFs unless he has true Buxton potential. Same with SS. If he’s not a lock to stick take the pitcher instead.

Let’s claim we are competing in 2022. As said by twins brass. If that is to happen and we’re not looking at 2025 we need to not trade anyone. We resign almost everyone and bring in one of Stroman, Rodriguez. We also bring in one of Kershaw, Scherzer. Now we’re not looking for these guys to bring in cy young potential but cy young/winning/competitor pedigree( Nelson Cruz a few years ago). In fill the bullpen with your young guns. Guys with stuff and something to prove. Enough of Derek law, Derek coulombe, Luke Ferrell, Shaun Anderson. We don’t want these guys anymore. Give Rocco a veteran/ old school baseball mind bench coach. Not a Derek law Shaun Anderson equivalent bench coach.build a team to be hard nosed and compete on the field. Not on a piece of paper. Then, see what happens! We’re the underdog again. Surprise someone again!

Before the pandemic hit last year I had the chance to drive down the road to Hawkins field and watch the commodores. This guy looked like a man among boys which judging by his stats to start the season he truly was! This guy is gonna be an OBP machine. On a team of elite players in the country he was by far the best player. No questions. He’s gonna be fine and I can’t wait for him to get the call because he’s a gamer for sure! He’s calm in the box. You can tell he’s got a plan. He was watching the pitcher intently in the on deck circle. He worked the count and when he got his pitch which he knew was coming he attacked the pitchAnd barreled it! He looked like a right handed Mauer in the box. In his prime that is. That kind of hitter! In college!

Agreed! Yes, injuries have played the primary role in never being able to gain momentum when they were trying to get on a role but the fundamentals! Their have been so many games where we blew it with bone headed plays on the field. Also so many games we had on hand and the bullpen would completely blow it. In order to be able to take 8 out of 10 games or 15 out of 20 you have to be sharp and making the right plays. Throwing to the cutoff man. Getting the ball in. Throwing strikes. Fundamentals killed this team from the beginning. I put a lot of that on the coaching staff personally

One thing I feel is so overlooked is the results of 2019-2020 with a rookie manager and a mostly new coaching staff. ROOKIE manager Baldelli lead this team to a pair of outstanding seasons. Wes Johnson helped make immediate differences both years for the pitching staff. Rowson was so well regarded as a hitting coach he got a promotion to bench coach for another team, Marlins IIRC. Shelton was so highly regarded as a career milb coach/manager and his job as bench coach for the Twins he got the Pirates job and might have been the Mets coach, again IIRC, before controversy over Houston changed the complexion of things. Jeremy Heffner was the Twins ASSISTANT/BP coach before being hired away by the Mets as their primary PC. Sawyer came in and not only changed how our catchers set up to receive the ball, but also changed how they got batting practice, before they were worn out from just catching everyone.
Mike Bell seemed like a really smart hire as a Shelton replacement before never assuming the role due to cancer and his terribly unfortunate early demise.
There is a very recent history, despite one aweful and disappointing year, that maybe this FO knows how to change things. They have an almost immediate history of finding high coaching talent good enough to be poached by the rest of MLB. Past players have commented on how the NEW Twins way is about individual development vs some old school formula.
And I am not picking on LastOnePicked or anyone else. We all have the rights to our opinions. Period! I just get frustrated that "Twins suck", "Rocco sucks", "FO suck" when we are talking about a horrible, disappointing season. It absolutely, positively, "sucks". But sometimes s**t happens, even when you least expect it.
And blame is easy. It's what happens tomorrow that is important!

I gave them a B+.  They hit on the two big trades, but failed to deal Pineda.  They somehow managed to deal Happ though.
That said, I think they did really well on the two important trades.  That's a much bigger deal for the franchise.
It would be nice to see them pivot and extend Pineda now.

"Now the ball is in Derek Falvey, Thad Levine, and the various Twins coaching staffs' court. It is on their shoulders to make the Twins' newfound prospect currency count."
This is the source of my pessimism. I can't imagine a group I have less confidence in for this task. I think our talent acquisition is strong, but I have less than zero faith in the FO and staff who develop and evaluate that talent in our system. Too many great players have been given away for nothing. Too many terrible players remain. This organization needs a rebuild.
It's sad. We had a clear window for a good run, and this group let it all slip through their fingers. We are now a bottom-5 MLB team. Why would they get another shot?

So because they’re trading one guy who we obviously are not going to sign because he wants top dollar on the market we should just trade everybody? The fact that these guys are negotiating till the bitter end for every last dollar shows you that these guys understand that mlb is a business. If these guys are getting upset that guy A or guy B is getting traded in order to make the team hopefully better in years to come then they are doing themselves a massive disservice. Not only to themselves but to the team ultimately. If your coworker leaves to go to another company in order to better his life that’s gonna make you not want to work as hard instead of trying to work harder to gain that same job yourself? You make it sound like we’re just giving up on him when actually the twins are trying to better themselves when the inevitable is staring them in the face.
