Except if you trim Buxton's numbers to the past three years - after he stopped tinkering with his swing and went back to being the guy he was when drafted - his OPS is .900. That's why he's getting paid and at that point, Billy Beane wouldn't care about his OBP in comparison to the rest of his tools.

Next to trading Buck, this is the worst idea I have ever heard....at some point,  you need to just stop trading away homegrown talent and build around somebody for cripes sake.

Very likely that the core of solid young players they inherited (Berrios, Polanco, Sano, Kepler, Buxton, Rosario) will be reduced to nothing more than Polanco, an ineffective Kepler and a handful of magic bean prospects in a so-so farm system by the start of '22.
And several top Twins prospects launching promising careers elsewhere. Oh, and zero playoff wins to show for it all.
    Unreal.

A terrible FO. Trading away the young stars. Games many can't see on TV and a looming lock-out. Some fans still leery of going downtown. What's not to love? If I was Pohlad I would give Falvey an order in this instance. Just get it done.

Wow, over 70% of TD members which are avid fans wouldn't renew their season tickets. What would that mean to the casual fan. It doesn't look good for the Polhads.

I'm not sure what they are trying to accomplish aside  from giving the fans the middle finger and insulting  Buck and our entire homegrown cluster of talent. I like JD and I understand why they made some of the moves they did at the time they did, but now it has blown up into the most pathetic hot mess and outright failure of any front office in the league...who does this crap? You gamble away Berrios....outch, you toss away Cruz like he is yesterday's trash...but okay, we will recover...but Buxton??? Neither this team or the fans will recover from that move anytime soon.  They dynamic duo has failed and so has their manager and most of his coaches. Hey guys, take your season tickets and shove 'em.

Jorge Polanco is my favorite Twin. Seeing him healthy and playing up to his potential was salve for my soul in that miserable 2021 season. Trading him would crush me (much like so many fans with Buxton).
That being said, if you’re committed to the rebuild, Polanco, Buxton and Garver are your biggest trade chips left (that aren’t going to be long for the next wave).
I appreciate the idea on merit and plausibility, but I wouldn’t like it

We are not discussing team revenues in this thread. If that's the discussion you want, frame it up, write it out and start your own discussion thread. Or write a blog, or series of blogs, to discuss revenues, small-mid market teams, etc. Seriously. You have much to say, so create your own platform to say it and stop taking other threads off the track. Of late you have taken a few threads off the track, with the help of a few others, please stop. All of you. I get how easy it is when someone mentions how the Twins could afford to do this or that, and there is goes. Don't keep picking up that bait, please. And this thread was only 2 pages in when you started it. Stop doing this.

It's always amazing how Falvey and Levine can say so little while using so many words. Corporate to their core. Translation: "Yup, we're trading Buxton. We blew the negotiations, and we now have to try and get what we can before the season starts."
We will be the Baltimore Orioles of the AL Central for the next decade thanks to the shrewd moves they've made over the last few years.

There's still a lot of offseason left to go but after the Berrios extension in Toronto and its relatively reasonable dollar figure, let's just say it's unlikely I will support this front office remaining in control if they trade Byron Buxton.
The Minnesota Twins are not the Cleveland Guardians or the Tampa Bay Rays and I'm gonna be mad as hell if they try to operate that way.

Dan Hayes and Ken Rosenthal have a piece about Buxton in The Athletic today. To summarize:
Others in the industry expect them to trade Buxton.

There has been no progress to date since their discussions broke down at the trade deadline.

Falvey: “At this point of the off-season we’re still just navigating our planning and strategy and trying to understand what’s available to us and what the market looks like . . . There are people on our team that are interesting to other clubs and we just always need to work through what does that look like, what does our team look like as we navigate it.”

The tea leaves seem to be signaling a Buxton trade. If that happens, then there’s not really a reason to watch this team as far as I’m concerned. The Twins brass should remember that the Twin Cities are mostly a football and hockey town.

I fear you are correct. The young wonder-duo wants to make their mark. I also fear Pohlad is playing a good cop/bad cop routine on us, and has greenlighted the wonder-duo in the dismantling of any semblance of Terry Ryan, and forbidding long term extensions for anyone not named Dobnak.

I honestly don't understand what the hell is going on over at 1 Twins Way right now. While I was mildly in favor of the Berríos trade at the time, that trade is a lot harder to swallow in light of Jose signing on through most of the rest of his career for $120m.
This front office didn't hesitate to give an obviously aging Josh Donaldson $95m so what the hell was the holdup with giving Jose, a hometown star, $25m more over a bunch more seasons that will see him exit the contract at roughly the same age Donaldson was when he signed his contract?
Never mind the apparent cluster**** with Buxton right now. We've heard rumblings over $100m being a sticking point, which is only $5m more than they gave a mid-30s Josh Donaldson.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not blasting the Donaldson contract, I'm only wondering why that was able to get done with little theatrics while Berrios and Buxton seem to face insurmountable hurdles while both are still well shy of 30 years old, never mind their already-existing attachment within Twins Territory.
Now that I think of it, this front office hasn't signed a single hometown player to a multi-year deal, as least that I can recall.
    Again, what the hell?!?!?!
I'm becoming increasingly convinced that this front office is willing to pay for "their guy" but become obsinate about any existing Twins player that fans know and actively enjoy watching play. We've bought jerseys of these players, we have emotional connections to them, there are a dozen reasons to keep any number of them over constantly washing laundry via free agency.
This is not a good look for a spectator-driven sport that makes its money from fan engagement.

The Twins organization has gambled enough with their penny pinching...sign Buck, give him what he wants. or we are going to have another Big Papi outcome to haunt us forever.   How many players can play at his level??? 15 Million just for showing up at the field. Bonus incentives if he doesn't end up injured for more than 30 games

I would agree - the Twins broke the bank at the time to resign Puckett. $ure times have changed, and many digits have been added, but winners tend to  keep their best homegrown assets.

I would say TL is a bit overrated.  he is below average speed in the field and on the bases below average fielder and not exactly showing a high Baseball IQ... he may start hitting again but those other things aren't necessarily going to change drastically, so that makes him a backup or AAA...

Well you could knock me over with a feather I must say I'm a bit surprised but then again he is probably the player I am the least familiar with.... whiIe I appreciate you saying he's not good enough for this, no athlete is good enough for this not unless they have a PhD behind their name with an extremely high IQ and about twenty years of higher education and research under their belt... it's real simple keep your job and your personal life separate especially when it comes to Pro Sports if you're going to be on social media and want to express your opinions then you need to make your account private... the thing I love the most about the MLB is that it seems to remain safely out of this kind of crap... that being said it kind of reminds me of the phrase dumb jock
