Thoughtful analysis - I appreciate all you put into this. Would be fascinating to compare this with our market and division competitors.
It seems to me that the large number of times we see "Aggressive" or "Reach" here is an indication that this FO thinks they are smarter than the average MLB bear. Though the results so far just don't back this up at all
They don't draft well, and that's a MAJOR part of the talent pipeline for a mid-market team. They also bleed talent in Rule 5, they don't sign FAs well and their trades are a mixed bag at best (sellers: OK, buyers: terrible). Can someone please remind me why so many on TwinsDaily are eager to keep this duo at the helm?

I always felt that if Gordon ever made the major league team, this was a bad sign that the team had tanked.  I suppose that proved to be prophetic.
However, if he is here, he should be playing where the Twins spent years training him to play.  Now that he is on the team, he deserves the same chance every other player deserves when they come up.
Simmons is pointless.  Let's look at the future and see if Gordon can be a part of it.

The FO or Rocco has apparently decided he can't play a decent SS at the ML level. FINE. They are far smarter and more plugged in than I am. But then why in hell have I watched him playing SS the past two ST? I'm NOT saying Polanco shouldn't be the #1 backup SS at the ML level, but why doesn't Gordon at least get a shot to see what he can do there?
I have ZERO illusions the kid is going to go somewhere and become a high quality ML player...other than maybe at 2B for a losing team just looking for potential. But if you liked him enough to protect him, stick by him, and believe enough in his athleticism to learn CF/OF on the fly, and drop him back down to AAA with the purpose of getting AB and playing EVERYWHERE, then for goodness sake let him play at the ML level EVERYWHERE. And that includes SS. I expect no greatness but you might actually end up with an inexpensive, speedy, utility player.
Far short of his original draft status and initial hope, but what's wrong with gaining some real value for him?

Rocco literally said the Twins are rebuilding this week, using that exact word. He also said the Twins "don't have the payroll of the Dodgers or Yankees" so can't just spend our way to contention year in and year out.

I think Viola is a Twin in good standing. He’s been in the booth in a very affable manner with Dick and xxx and been very personable, showing no sign of any bitterness. I read his tweet as a criticism of management and manager, frankly deserved. How do you manage to pull off taking a 101 win team where Schoop and Cron contributed greatly to the Hr record to a 90 or so loss team.
How do you take a pitching staff good enough to win 101 games and totally decimate it in two years. How do you make signings as bad as Happ, Shoemaker, trade away Pressley for insufficient return, cast aside 30 HR hitting Eduardo Escobar, just let Trevor May go for nothing, Wisler for nothing, Clippard for nothing, shed Rich Hill, sign Hansel Robles and Colome to replace the relievers they kicked away. They blew it by not signing a legit  cf backup for Buxton. And not signing a LF to replace Rosario.
The only way I see to fix the mess with Falvine still in place is to sign Robby Ray and Danny Duffy and re-sign Pineda, hope Ryan is the real deal and use Ober. They still have 5 poisitions that are shaky or subpar, LF where Kirilloff may need to play, RF with Kepler with  a .211 average. I admit he’s been better lately but he’s had low averages most of his career. Sano has rebounded nicely but will he slump mightily next year before recovering. I hope he’s turned the corner. Buxton’s a question mark only because he rarely plays a half a season. I’m hoping he plays the rest of this season well and stays healthy and they can come together on an extension. Larnach needs to figure out how to handle breaking balls.
I think Frank Viola cares about the Twins and is dismayed. I love the Twins. They’ve been the love of my life since I was 8 yrs old in 1964. That didn’t stop me from being at my wits end when Calvin Griffith let Bill Campbell, Tom Burgmeir, Lyman Bostock, Larry Hisle, Dan Ford, Rod Carew, Gary Ward, Dave Goltz all leave in about a four year period. Admittedly that was worse than this.

If Gordon isn't a viable sub at short then not sure I give him a 40 man spot. We have Arraez and Polanco at 2nd or 3rd if needed and now have MIranda and Martin who can play there as well and they both project to be better players than Gordon.  Until Martin and Miranda's emergence I would have said he has a chance but Martin seems like a better version of Gordon and Miranda's power stroke makes him valuable as well.  Gordon has no power and doesn't walk much but he has good bat to ball skills a solid arm and decent speed.  He can play center in a pinch but not sure how he grades out there defensively.
To the point of this article though yes if left unprotected I have to believe he is the perfect player for a rebuilding team to pick up.  You hope he hits for average and that you have a solid utility player for cheap rates the next 6 years.  Best case scenario he turns into a solid 2nd baseman for a team in need of a player at that position.  He could be a valuable pick up.
He would be good in that position for us as well but with most of our best bats already at that position he looks like the odd man out to me.

I think you are being too charitable to this FO. They've made many bad moves where they simply misjudged the talent they had, misjudged talent they were getting back, or misjudged how other teams measured talent.

"In April, this club seemed to be dealt a good amount of bad luck"

That is a very generous way to assess the 1st 24 games of the season.

For whatever reason Rocco/FO was obsessed with deeming Colome as our closer. This didn't have to be the decision. It should have been Rogers job to lose. For whatever reason, it was Colome's job to lose, and he should have lost it at least 2 weeks before he did.

Our best starter in March wasn't given a starting job (the Dobber) - but they gave the 5th spot to Shoemaker. The rest is history, Shoemaker stunk, and Dobs never helped us and is now wrecked.

For whatever reason we decided that our best leadoff hitter, and our best contact guy (Arraez) would NOT be given a starting position on the field. This led to spending 10M on a shortstop - so, instead of signing a 12M starting pitcher, we signed a 2M starting pitcher. This also led to the ever changing by the day line up, and led to a very decent 2b man having to be a very average to poor LF'er.

And of course going back to the prior year, we tried to land a stud pitcher, we could not, so we jumped at adding Donaldson, which moved Sano to 1st - now blocking both Kirilloff (not anymore), and now blocking Miranda - and putting a 24M hole in our pitching budget.

The proof of these personnel mistakes is here. We'd love to trade both Simmons and Donaldson. Proof we blew the roster construction game. Would we have been much better off this year with Arraez at leadoff every game and playing 2b - former all-star ss Polanco at short - Sano was a 3b until a couple weeks ago, now Miranda is playing there - Kirilloff now manning 1b daily. Just a shame really - not to mention the LF difficulty's we wouldn't have if Lamont Wade and/or Eddie Rosario were still here. Personnel roster blunders, and managerial mistakes are everywhere.

We made our own bad luck Ted.

My question's are these - Who are the next 6 foundational players? All 6 of these were products of the Terry Ryan era. Does Falvey even have the next 6 in the system? Are any of the current 6 going to be a part of the next 6? I can't believe our window is already closed and we're talking about this. Dammit. I do still think Berrios and Buxton can and should be a part of the next 6. Can we sign them? Do we want to sign them? I have lots of questions.

I strongly doubt the Twins extend either Berrios or Buxton. Berrios wants to see what he's worth in FA and if the Twins were going to extend him, that would've already happened. Buxton is expecting Betts/Lindor type money, and no way the Twins will pay that. I wouldn't touch extending him with a 20 foot pole with his injury history. Players with injury history in their 20's don't suddenly become healthy in their 30's. Aging is unavoidable, and since Buck relies so much on his speed as an asset, he will decline. I love Buck as much as anybody but you have to face the facts that he will not be a reliable CF. If he plays a corner spot he will be way overpaid especially when we have Larnach, Kiriloff, Wallner to fill those spots at a cheap price.

Next 6: Arraez, Balazovic, Kiriloff, Larnach, Lewis, Duran.

I have actually read Robert Reich. Sometimes his analysis can be a stretch and he tends to use a very one sided political lens. It's totally his right to do so but it does sometimes cause him issues in his conclusions.
You initially said "We have an obsolete Constitution that does not allow for modification", now you're saying "We will likely never see another amendment". Which one is it? Can you modify the Constitution or not?

You didn't respond to my pointing out that presidents do terrible crap all the time.
You also didn't respond to the point that the policeman still being on the force was due to inaction by voters in Minneapolis.

Those are all lovely countries. I've been to a few but not all and would enjoy finishing off the list. However, in all of those countries, if you were to say something that the majority disagreed with you could be tossed in jail. None of them have the right to free speech enshrined in their founding documents. Sorry, they're not better.
"I'm ashamed at the mess of a country I am leaving my children and grandchildren - a country that is financially, politically, racially and morally broken."
As for this statement, it is your opinion and you are welcome to it. I would just point out that nowhere on the planet do you have a better chance of making things better than you do in the US.

    1.   Are you totally ignorant?  Have you heard of Article V of the US Constitution?  Probably not.

    2.  Who runs the Minneapolis police department?  Hint:  It aint Donald Trump.   If there is a police officer who has 17 complaints ask the Democratic Mayors and City Councils, and in the end, the voters of the city of Minneapolis why this is the case?

The real problem with the country is centered on the urban areas of the nation that have been completely dominated politically by the Democratic Party. The last Republican mayor of the City was elected in 1957 and served one term.  From 1945, when Hubert H. Humphrey was elected mayor of Minneapolis, the Democrats have been in office for 71 of those 75 years.
The Democrats control who the Police Chief is. Who the senior commanders of the police force are.  They determine the policies and procedures of the agency.

Likewise, they control the school systems of the city.  If there is a problem with education for inner city minorities, this is where you complain.

Why these political actors get a free pass on this is totally amazing.  There is ZERO political opposition to them in the City.  They have treated the black community as their captive audience, dependent upon them like slaves to a master.  And this dependence has created continued power.

It even says Qatar is a better place to start a business. Do you think that is also true for a woman or someone in the LGBT community? Qatar may not, but a couple of countries around there have a fun game where they toss gay people off of buildings. Totally where I'm going to start my own pizzeria. They also only asked 20,000 people across the globe. Current global population is 7.8 billion. That's means they asked .00025641% of the global population what the best country is. "We live in the greatest country on earth" is the laziest possible statement ever. The transfer of money and power to the top 1% has effectively destroyed our democracy and turned us into the equivalent of a banana republic."

Just because you believe this to be true doesn't mean it is. Funny how people in these various threads that are calling for systemic change seem really adverse to providing evidence to backup their statements.

"We have a president who dispels peaceful protesters with chemical irritants for a fake photo opp. We have an obsolete Constitution that does not allow for modification. We have a policeman with at least 17 complaints of misconduct who murders a handcuffed man in broad daylight, with three of his colleagues watching and doing nothing."

We had a President who threw critics in jail without habeas corpus. That was Abraham Lincoln.

We had a President who so strongly believed that white's were superior that he aired 'Birth of a Nation' in the White House. That was Woodrow Wilson.

We had a President who killed US citizens overseas without a trial. That was Barack Obama.

The Constitution is totally modifiable. It's been modified 27 times. They're called amendments.

If a policeman has 17 complaints and hasn't been fired, that's not a country problem, that's a problem with voters in that area. If they keep electing the same people to office over and over again who allow that to happen, that's on them.

Finally, our country isn't perfect. How could it be? It was created and it is maintained by people. That being said, I'd like to know what country/countries you think are better.
