Any list without Jake Cave is incomplete. It’s amazing the number of players that could have been on the list.

Wow, of all the Twins disappointing guys on this team you found a way to put Astudillo in the bottom 5 on the entire team this year?
Ryan Jeffers is batting .194 and is basically the full-time catcher for this team. To me that means he's providing little value. He's literally batting under .200 dude. It's not a small sample size either. Advanced stats don't look good either.
Tyler Duffey came in with a new 2.2 million contract and was supposed to slam the door in the 7th and 8th inning. But instead he stinks. That's providing little value, especially considering he's making 3x as much as Rogers.
Meanwhile they're paying Astudillo with Chuck E. Cheese tokens and he's got the last spot on the bench when he's not playing in St. Paul. He's not lighting the world on fire but he's gotten a few key hits and can spell just about everyone at 1st, 3rd, and catcher. Not much value, but for their money the Twins aren't getting ripped off or anything with this guy.

Andrelton Simmons certainly deserves to be number one.  Remember, he was the guy who publicly refused to get a Covid vaccine, then he got COVID.   Then a few other Twins players got it too.  Of course, the Twins stuck up for Simmons and claimed he didn’t spread it.   Who knows - but with that attitude I’d like Simmons to viewed as a bigger Super Spreader than Sturgis, Lalapalooza, that big Martha’s Vineyard birthday party and all of last weekend’s college football games combined.

My fear is that Falvine trades Buxton for pitching. I think the team's first priority should be to sign BB to a long term contract. He's come of age. His last injury was a hit-by-pitch: could happen to anybody. His dazzle will draw fans like me on a regular basis to the stadium. He's worth 15/mil a year, which is what his agents say they want. We haven't won a World Series, or played in one, since 1991; there's a reason for that. Yes, Mauer wasn't worth what he got, and an injury that reduced his effectiveness was one reason, but Buxton can be transformational in the lineup and in center field. Just do it, guys, and figure out the pitching on the fly.

What I really like about Rooker is that he bats from the right side.  How about trade Alex K, or Larnach instead for some more pitching.  Might not be as good in the field minus one of the lefties, but could also get a better return for them.  Otherwise I see another cluster of left handed corner outfielders kind of like we have/had with Kepler, Wade, and Cave.

Nicely done.  Even older than Richard, I too love baseball on the radio.  I no longer have a transistor radio  under my pillow and have to turn to streaming because of my travel, but there is no more soothing sound than a good baseball game and competent announcers.

I can see him potentially as a 4th outfielder/platoon ie upgrade over Cave.    With our current OF situation he is our best defender outside of Buxton which has value.

For those that believe Shoemaker should continue to pitch IN ANY GAME------please respond with your argument.
Yes, Ober's performance was disappointing, but seeing Shoemaker lit up like a firecracker absolutely serves no purpose other than to save the pitch count of other below average RPs.
Do the right thing and DFA him tomorrow.

Wasn't Wade yet another Left handed corner outfielder buried on the depth chart with 2 other LH corner outfield rookies waiting in the wings?  Sure - in hindsight (and maybe even earlier) we could have predicted he'd be better than Cave - but ya never know.  Pretty sure the Giants would have passed on Cave in that trade.  Had depth for that role - threw a dart and missed.  Sometime you hit, sometime you don't.

farmerguychris reacted to roger in 4 Possible Teams Interested in a Byron Buxton Trade
When healthy, Buxton is the best center fielder in baseball.  Probably one of the best five position players in the game.  Therefore, every contending team should have an interest in adding him to their lineup.  Granted, center is a bigger need for some, but the market should be a lot more than the four listed above.
With that said, I want Byron Buxton to sign an extension and stay with the Twins for the rest of his career.  Don't know where Reusse got his information and if it is anything more than his opinion.  If it is solid and there is zero chance Buxton signs an extension, he should be traded this summer.  The return should be HUGE, hopefully, our FO will be smart about what they get in return and it helps the Twins get back into contention within the next year or two.
If he is traded, I will be rooting for whatever team he is playing with come October.

I'd really rather trade Buxton to the NL so I don't have to see him very often. I certainly wouldn't ship him off to the Yankees!

This is exactly why the "trade Berrios now" talk makes no sense.  Trade for whom?  And how do you fill the hole he leaves?
Unless the ball club has decided to rebuild from the ground up, or if Berrios and his agent will settle for nothing less than the greatest amount they can obtain on the market, this is the correct approach.  Smart management doesn't deal away personnel without knowing whom they will plug in as a replacement.  Even if he is only ever a number 2 or 3 arm, having Berrios spend his most productive (or even all) years with the Twins is likely to benefit the club.  Everyone they have on the farm is at least a season away from being as good as he is now, and dealing for someone as good or better is always fraught with peril.
Dance with them that brung ya - and pay 'em, too.

Look, Maeda is NOT himself right now. He may or may not be the pitcher we saw in 2020. But career numbers and his ST performance and injury would tell you he's going to rebound.
Berrios has been a rock, despite some ups and downs. For the 100th time, he's still 27yo plus and is a 2 time All Star. Again, for the 100th time, he and the Twins have changed his work out routine to allow for a full season of endurance and performance. And we haven't seen the results yet after the weird season that 2020 was. He may or may not ever achieve the ACE status that so many wish for. Me included. But despite some very good prospects rising, you can't ignore what you already have.
If the Twins don't give him a 4 or 5yr deal for something close to $18-20 per they are being stupid.  Someone else will.

I agree with you about nothing in the leadership ranks offers much as a hitting coach.  What is only real difference between our Bomba Squad in 2019 compared to our poor batting results in 2020 and now 2021. the batting coach changed!  I know these guys are pros - but something had to change in the way they are being told to hit isn't there?

I hate the idea that we're looking to move him - Always liked this kid and still think he's a solid #2 guy which we don't have anyone ready to slide into his rotation spot.  However - i think it is obvious he wants to test free agency.  Would we get more in return now, or at the deadline when teams may be willing to compete for him?  With our current core and slate of people almost ready - would prefer to not get some low level guy with high upside but someone only a year away perhaps.  Hope thats the route they go if not simply keep him here and make him an offer he can't refuse.

Unlucky? Yes.  Playing extremely poorly? Yes. A ridiculous amount of injuries to key players? Yes. That's a bad combination.
Offense? Bad.  Pitching? Bad. Defense? Bad.  AND at the worst possible time....the last innings of close games.
Aside from all that, I think the season has gone quite well.
