old nurse got a reaction from TwinsDr2021 in Which Prospect Anchors 2022's Rotation?
Expecting anyone to come in and be a number 1 as a first year player is fairly unrealistic.
The past has also shown that expecting a less than league average pitcher to be something like an ace is also unrealistic

old nurse got a reaction from ToddlerHarmon in Average OPS By Position vs. Twins Starters
Yet for all of the consternation about Arraez playing someplace, it is all how you want to look at it. Take a look at those players with 100 total AB for this year, 3b Arraez sits as the 17th best. OPS this year of the 61 players . 19th for the 71 players for LF, and 21 for the 68 at 2B. Below average number, above the median for players playing. 128 place out of the 399 players with 100 AB
Arraez is the utility player. Compare him to the other who do what he does

old nurse got a reaction from Channing1964 in Kirilloff’s Confusing Decision
Do you think the players are just hoping to sit on their butts for a month. There are a lot of fields for the teams to play on in spring training facilities. They do it all spring, unless there are mass mirages by multiple people. I couldn't tell you if they keep statistics. I would also think it would be safe to assume that they are all being watched, and coached. If you want to think that teams will do mo development of their players for a month, fine. The conditions of last year are not totally repeated.

old nurse got a reaction from mikelink45 in Thad Levine Being Poached Shows Twins Growth
Front office people went elsewhere under the Ryan regime. Kriviski went to be GM from assistant. Coaches always seem to be on the move. About the only coaches under either regime that was promoted to manager was Gardenhite and Molitor. Levine is under consideration. That is not hired.
The old regime was what it was. It met the desired goals of Carl Pohlad. The added bonus what’s a competitive team. Yes they lost in the playoffs. Over the same time period the end result was better than what the Reds or Orioles have produced. Keep in mind the core of the current team is still from the previous era

By the time Camargo develops Garver will be on the downside or DH. Anyone else one needs to remember prospect does not equal MLB player.

old nurse got a reaction from SomeGuy in Payroll Problems Biting Baseball
If Betts thought he could get more then he should have went to arbitration. He set his value by agreeing to the contract
Except for one year Harper has been in the 4 range for WAR except for the one year. People remember the one year and forget the rest. Before Heyward signed the contract he had been a 5 WAR player. Heyward at the same age was a consistently better overall player. The point on Heyward that you missed completely is that he got the money then tanked. Sandoval got the money and tanked. They both were still in their under 30 years old prime age.

Betts 20 million, Castellanos almost 10 million. Whatever Odorizzi is getting paid. The tired refrain of players being grossly underpaid before free agency is falling apart. The AAV of contracts seems to be doing OK for the players. It is the length that is not there.
Why are teams reluctant on Harper and Machado despite their age? Jason Heyward would be exhibit A. To some extent Sandoval and Hosmer who were also young would give one pause to say youth alone isn't a surefire thing.

old nurse got a reaction from Richie the Rally Goat in Sick of seeing Molitor Criticism
When you have a team that has 3 batters hitting above league average and maybe 2 position players playing better than replacement level, complaints about lineup construction seem petty It is not like there is much down in Rochester to help. Wade is looking like on paper he is figuring out AAA. When Cave falter I would guess he will get his shot.
Molitor and bullpen usage. Molitor uses his bullpen like he has no concern for yesterday or tomorrow. He is trying to win that day. The problem is which pitchers he trusts. Rodney, Reed,. Others fall out of favor when they falter. Hildenberger, Rogers Presslyand Duke fit the profile. Is it the coaching or the pitcher's ability? Questionable bullpen, questionable usage goes hand in hand. It is the easy shot to take.

Santana is not ready to come back now why would you be worried about what roster spot will be used. If the return is not likely until the end of June the answer will be clearer at the end of June.

old nurse got a reaction from h2oface in The other guy always looks better than your own
Rule v draft was in December. Chagois was designated in February. One has nothing to do with the other. Morrison was signed a week after Chargois. Cause and effect would be sketchy at best. There would be no certainty of signing anyone

old nurse got a reaction from Ben Noble in The Kinley Conundrum is Coming for Twins
4 games each for Chargois and Bard. 1 for Kinley, 2 for Moya. Not much to go on Think of the lights out bullpen would have been as Belisle has yet to give up a run this year. Take that for the small sample size judgements. Give it some time and see what happens. Vargas has yet to strike out in a game for Rochester....

old nurse got a reaction from mikelink45 in Adalberto Mejia: High Floor or More?
His floor is what he is. Under 5 IP, an ERA closer to 5 than 4. A hitable fastball and not the best off speed pitches means the Twins really do need 2 starters. It is also why there has been so little ink. His prospect peak has been reached as a starter.

Given the last couple of years of Miley's career he might be looked at as depth for AA
-
old nurse got a reaction from ToddlerHarmon in What does one of the newest predictive measurements tell about the Twins' bats in 2018?
That stat assumes stability in launch angle and speed off the bat, neither of which is mentioned as a stable trait in batters. The article states "Orioles third baseman Manny Machado produced a .335 wOBA in 2016. But based on the quality of his contact, his xwOBA was .357." Dis Machado regress because of poorer launch angles or exit velocity, better defense as his number of singles dropped or other factors? Predictive exercises can be entertaining, but might be of the same usefulness as the abduction/adductor machine
