Agreed...  especially now after a missed season. Will they be Hall of Famers? Probably not, but there is no reason to think they can't be big leaguers (even though the odds for any minor leaguer is never real high).

Roger:  I'm sure this will be reported on later tonight, but Balazovic absolutely "got back on track" tonight as he threw 5.2 shutout and NO HIT IP in his start tonight vs. Amarillo.  Only 2 walks with 6 K's in a dominant performance.  Nice to see this as he'd struggled in his last 2 starts.  I was fortunate to see him pitch in Wichita (mid June) when he had a very good start.  Like others, but namely, Josh Winder, I hope to see these two in our starting rotation next season.

Omaha leads the midwest division by 6 games, and lead the league in batting average with 20 more home runs than anyone else.  It's been their offense primarily, but they definitely are one of the top teams in Triple-A thus far.

For whatever reason, this club's fundamental play has been headed south for several years.  Those of us who recall those Twins teams managed by Tom Kelly are shaking our heads.

What can you say.  Wanted to take a look at the box score to see what the ERA's were for the Omaha pitchers.  I thought Omaha was in first place and a good team.  The starter had a high ERA, but 8 runs in 2+ innings last night certainly elevated it.  The rest were all 4+ or so, so not the best, but certainly ok.
A month until the trade deadline should give him time to continue hitting as he was at Wichita and be all set to join the Twins.  Now let's see Winder put up a great start whenever he gets his first outing later this week.
Always check to see how Javier is doing.  Was 1-3, plus a walk.  Another solid night...keep it up young man.  Now let's see Balazovic get back on track tonight.

    Concur.
This team is the worst Twins club at actually playing the game in my memory.
They continually do things no professional team should do, and fail to do things no professional team should fail to do.
Missing cutoffs, not positioning for cutoffs, throwing to the wrong base, poor baserunning decisions, the list goes on and on.
All the things a good manager drills into his team, and requires of them.
The pitching staff is awful, there's no doubt. But that's not the only reason they're losing.

This is an absolutely good note. Coulombe saved the rest of the bullpen from not having to come into the game last night. Whether the reason is winning or showcasing for a trade, it puts the rest of the relievers in a better place to succeed.

After it was 7-2 I didn't think they stood a chance but at least they battled back.  The narrative for this team continues to hold.  They find ways to self inflict the things that lead to loses.  They are a team that just isn't quite good enough most nights.  I hope the FO can work some magic at the deadline.

In the end, these statements don't help the club. They may not want to talk specifically about what could be hurting Maeda's performance, but when it is obvious to everyone that he is not himself they need to say so to keep fans and the press with them. If they said things like, "we don't know why yet," or, "we'd rather not speculate before we review what went wrong tonight," they'd get a lot more sympathy and understanding than they do from this kind of dissembling.
Other bright notes that the article omits are the performances of Coulombe and Duffey, who held the line to keep a victory within reach of the bats.  If only.   If, if, if...

I don't mind Cruz getting thrown out, or Polanco getting caught stealing. It's far too late for aggressive baserunning to make a difference this year - but it's a good habit and perhaps some of the younger players will catch on.
Likely sweep incoming. The narrative that the Twins were somehow "back in the race" after winning a couple games against Cleveland's AAA team was head-scratching. I mean, yeah if the Pirates, Orioles and Rockies won 15 straight games, they'd be "back in the race" too...but we can look at those teams with a non-biased eye and we know that's ridiculous.
This team has the worst pitching in baseball and it hasn't improved. The season's been over since Memorial Day.

The excuses seem to be getting more lame by the day. There was also Maeda saying he was the victim of "bad luck". He walked FIVE guys and the pitches weren't even close. And of course more sloppy defense and inexcusable baserunning.

The missed cutoff throws also contributed to this big, big giveaway night.  Legion Ball players get this right.

Good question.  We have a lot of guys that can play 2B.  The flexibility is nice but he is a big piece of the puzzle if he is at least average at 3B.

    It's winter of 2020:
you're about to turn 22 you just had a rough offensive season in A ball your minor league competition was the first overall pick and fall league MVP the big league club signs a former MVP to a 4-year contract to play your position, and the minor league season gets cancelled Fast forward to summer of 2021:
your minor league competition is out for the season the struggling big league club needs to trade expensive, useful position players to allow them to buy next year's starting rotation, and the guy blocking you is top of that list you lapped the league in AA, and you make an historic, 3-HR debut in AAA on the day you turn 23 Talk about seizing an opportunity

It’s very good to see Winder and Miranda moved up to AAA. I would really like to see Winder get five or six starts at the MLB level this year and Miranda get 100-150 at bats. Let’s see if one or both can help us in 2022 or if they need more time and 2023 or 2024 is a more realistic timeframe. There should be some opportunities for both after the trade deadline assuming we move a veteran or two.
I’m a little surprised that neither Andrew Vazquez or Ian Hamilton has gotten an opportunity to pitch out of the bullpen with the Twins yet this year. Both seem very dominant this year in AAA and I believe both are around 27 so now is really the time to find out what they can do. Again, this may just need to wait until the second half of the season but it sure seems to me that both those two guys should get at least 6-8 weeks of time in the Twins bullpen this year to see if they can be part of that pen next year. There certainly will be a need for bullpen depth next year and this year would be a great time to find out if these two guys can be part of that depth.

The one from yesterday is there, too. Not much there yet to draw any meaningful conclusions but it should be interesting to follow these young players.
Seth, do you know why Marco Raya is on the IL? I hope it's nothing serious, there are already so many injured pitching prospects in the system.
