    I don’t have a first-hand story of a mother of a minor leaguer, but I do have a second-hand story.

Several years ago, at the Macy’s parade on Thanksgiving, the woman next to asked about my Twins gear. She told me her son, Aaron Slegers was a minor league pitcher in the Twins system.

She told me about his high school and college career and how Aaron had moved up the Twins minor league chain. Also she talked about his off season workouts.

Slegers made the majors with the Twins and has since pitched with the Rays and Angels.

Doc, I totally agree Kaat should also go in as a broadcaster some day.  I'll tell you, Oliva was just a treat to watch hit.  He was all coiled up and when his swing uncoiled it was smooth and "wicked !!"  As a kid, I used to scour the box scores in my local paper each night just to see how many hits Tony-O got.  I would read the ENTIRE box score.  But the FIRST place my eyes would go was to:
                    AB        Runs     Hits   RBI
    Oliva RF    4           2           3       3
And then I would scan for extra base hits:  Oliva 2B-2 (36)  HR-1 (22)    Ahhhh, the memories.
Trov, great point !  I remember many years ago, looking at Oliva's stats on the back of a 1972 baseball card.  It had stats that went thru his 1971 third and final batting title.  His career average was .313 and in the pitching dominated era he played in, that's pretty. darn. good.  Clemente, Rose, Carew, there were only a handful of guys who were better.  That HAROLD BLEEPING BAINES got in before Tony-O is criminal.  That Kaat won 283 games and 16...SIXTEEN Gold Gloves and had to wait this long is frustrating.
But all the frustration and angst over the injustice of them not being elected while others (not as deserving in my opinion, WERE) is gone.  washed away like a warm summer rain.  I believe my wife and i will be driving to Cooperstown N.Y. from Rochester this coming July.  Maybe I'll see Tony-O and he'll sign a picture for me that says H.O.F. 2022.  What a great feeling for long time Twins Fans.

How many HOFers does that make for the Twins? I consider them to be ex-Twins if they wouldn't have been elected without their time in Minnesota. There is Harmon, Rodney, Kirby, Bert, and now Tony-O and Kitty. All but Kirby were on the team for all or parts of the seasons from 1970-1973.

This was on the day in 2020 when spring training was canceled. I ran into Tony on my way back to my car when I saw no one was on the fields. Nice man!

It looks like 9-8 will make the playoffs for sure and possibly 8 wins might get a spot. There will be more drama before the season ends.

The Vikings scored their last touchdown on third-and-goal with 1:50 left. If they ran the ball and kicked the chip shot FG, there would be somewhere between 50 seconds and a minute remaining for the Lions to kick a winning FG. They wouldn't have been able to drain the clock totally.
Detroit did all they could to hand the Vikings a win--two ill-advised fourth down attempts and two late turnovers--but Minnesota couldn't stop the vaunted Lion two-minute offense.
I do agree about the 17-game season.

stringer bell got a reaction from DocBauer in The Twins NEED a Shortstop
Given the way Gordon and, to a lesser extent, Martin have been handled, it seems that the only internal candidate to be a regular shortstop for the Twins is Lewis. Royce has a long ways to go to prove he can a)hit major league pitching and b)handle regular shortstop duties. He certainly can't be counted on to start the season as the Twins' shortstop and I think it would be foolish to bet the farm that Lewis will contribute at all this year as a shortstop.
The Twins need someone to step in next year and, in my estimation that guy will not come from the system. If the Twins want to spend big bucks on a Trevor Story, I think it is nearly certain they will not bring in any more than one starting pitcher after the lockout is over, and the most likely is Michael Pineda.
I think an acquisition of a Freddy Galvis or Jonathan Villar might be prudent, offering a decent player who can be signed for a year or two and able to move into a utility role if an internal option steps up.
IMHO, the Twins chances of contending next year are a long shot, but not impossible. They would need to hit on just about every choice they make and have some surprises. They need to at least patch the shortstop hole and add starting pitchers to even have hope and it might be true that hope is what the team is selling this winter.

stringer bell got a reaction from TopGunn#22 in Trade Suggestion: Arraez for Kiner-Falefa
I just don't know how Arraez and top prospect Miranda get consistent at-bats as long as Polanco and Donaldson are on this team. I like Arraez's at-bats and I don't think he is that bad in the field, but I get that feeling that he'll not be durable and he has some flaws--lack of speed and power--that limit his value and his ceiling. Kiner-Falefa has four full years of service and is 27 for the 2022 season. While his hitting hasn't been great, I think there is room for it to be better and he is gifted in the field and a plus base runner, areas where the Twins need to improve.

It is not just the salaries. It is also about 40-man flexibility and upside. Minaya and Coulombe either would be on the roster or DFAed. They couldn’t be shuttled back and forth to St. Paul.

Good luck to both finding a job.
