    The fact that this seems to be happen quite frequently leaves me to believe we need to fire a few people and hire a few more

    Short but sweet. Cruz will always be a favorite. I hope he gets a ring and now I have another team to root for this year (who might even win a playoff game!).

    I do think the Twins refusal to "go for it" has been a big problem over the years. 2019 was a prime opportunity to make a splash, and they traded for a couple of setup relievers and that was it... and the one time in the last 20 years they got risky with a deadline trade, they bet on Matt freaking Capps.
    But the thing is, he wasn't given away. He was a fine reliever who got traded for two quality prospects, but the real issue was that he immediately became one of the league's best relievers simply by making a few tweaks thanks to Houston's pitching gurus. Pressly never reached that level of play with the Twins... nor did Gibson, nor Lynn, nor Hendriks, and so on. We've had some success with pitchers in 2019-20, but outside of that stretch we haven't been able to develop pitchers consistently, and when many of our arms leave, they improve elsewhere. To me, this is way more important than any "spending issue".

    I know this is a pipe dream, and I also know that only my generation might remember the days, but I would do away with the entire process and go back to the days where the teams could control their rosters indefinitely.  I can understand arbitration, but free agency, in my extremely humble opinion, has harmed the sport significantly.  What casual fan can keep track of a team from year to year without a scorecard?  The players stopped being just that, players, when they found out they could hire their gun (bat? Arm?) to the highest bidder and retire from life before 40.  And the people who pay to see them play have no connection to most of them, as they turn over year to year throughout our lifetimes.  Remember the 60's Twins?  Darn right.  Remember the 2000's Twins?  Yea, neither do I.  When you look at a team and see 20 different players than you did even 5 years ago, the fans lose their attachment and, at least a lot of them, lose the desire to come watch.  Unless they are winning 101 games, then it is the chic place to be; otherwise, you see crowds like you have this year.  Anyway, the game was better from the fans point of view when they knew their team, and the fans pay the bills; it is all about the fans.  The day the game became all about the players it stopped being a game, which is what the fans want to see.  My sermon for the day.

    Got to agree with most of what you have written, Ted.  Although I cringe when reading the information about Mauer's value.  Have a hard time believing any/all of these statements about what Player X is or should be worth.  In a free market system, value is what is paid for a service, not some calculation of what it could/should be.  Sometimes there will be great deals, other times an overpay.
    Also agree that Donaldson is performing at or near what should have been expected, although a defensive whiz he no longer is.  With his aches and pain, not certain what the next two years will bring.  But as Tom Kelly said, "you are only as good as your next day's starting pitcher," Donaldson ain't a pitcher.  And that is what this FO seems to have forgotten, that pitching wins championships.
    With Berrios out the door, not a clue how they solve this mess.  Still hoping they sign Buxton and if I could understand what was written about Jose the other day, hopefully they will pony up market dollars and extend him during the offseason.
    If they need to remain in the under-$150M club, they may have to cut loose a few of the bad contracts currently on the club, with Donaldson being the biggest.  I keep shaking my head when thinking of what the Rays do every year with a payroll that is what, less than two-thirds of the Twins.  Can you imagine how dominant the Rays would be with the Twins payroll?  Time for the front-office to get to work and be better than they have these last several years.

    The next week could be interesting. I know that Terry Ryan was not a popular man with most of the people on Twins Daily, but I am still waiting to be impressed by anything from the current management team. I'm hoping Nelson Cruz was asked his thoughts on joining a pennant chase and that the trade today was a result of such conversations. Unless I hear differently, I will assume the best of intentions from Falvine and watch a few more Tampa games.

    I'm a little disappointed we're not getting Wander Franco in this deal! Best of luck to Nelson Cruz! Thanks for the memories! I hope #307 stands forever!!!!!!!

    I concur.  Kirilloff is the 1B of the future.  Sano can just try to see if he can make contact to be the DH next year.

    He also has a lot of value as part of future Twins teams.  And I question the common belief that the Twins have an abundance of corner outfielders.  We have Larnach and Kirilloff with the Twins.  Both are going to be great hitters, however, Kirilloff is better suited to first base.  Who after this pair is both very good and in the high minors?  Really no one.  Maybe Wallner will make it to the Twins, but he is a couple years away.  So I don't see the Twins having excess talent and no one anywhere near as good as Max defensively.
    Like others, if someone blows you away with an offer you gotta consider it.  But I prefer to believe that with good coaching Max can solve one or both of his problems and become a very good hitter.

    The word on the street is that 2011 happened because I moved out of the state the year prior. Unconfirmed but believed in some circles to be true. I used to help manage Rapid Park and my office was approx where home plate is now and I remember in 2010 how weird it was that there was a stadium where I used to drive a golf cart around in the mornings drinking coffee.

    Appreciate the breakdown @Brock Beauchamp I was definitely watching but getting old messes with my memory (could also be all the whiskey)

    Not the first to say it of course, but I really hate the runner on in extra innings. We still would have lost on 2 pitches, but it does not look like a professional game when you get a freebie in extra innings.

    Wouldn't surprise me to see Donaldson as the DH next year.  Maybe you can squeeze another season or more out of Cruz.  But when the NL adopts the DH, the Twins won't be able to afford Cruz, and he'll probably retire rather  than take a pay cut.
    Once the prize prospect, Sano is nothing more than a burden.  When he's healthy, he's good for a few monumental homeruns.  Despite the homerun ability, he's not a run producer.  So  a scenario comes to mind.  3b+Arraez,
    ss=Simmons, 2nd b= Polanco  1st b= Kiriloff.  LF=Larnach, CF= Buxton, RF=Keppler/Garlick  C= Jeffers, DH=Donaldson.
