Richmond Dude got a reaction from Riverbrian in Celestino, Beckham Sent to Minor-League Camp
Several of these rosters have 16 pitchers and the MLB only allows there to be 15 unless one is a two-way player like Ohtani. And if it is 15, both the players sent down in May have to be pitchers because the max is 13 at that point.
In other words, there has to be 13 position players. Oddly, there are currently 13 rostered position players still in camp (+3 NRI). If Godoy gets sent down, somebody has to be removed from the 40-man. My own preference with the way things appear to be shaking out would be for Arraez to be the regular DH, but it looks more like it will be Sanchez. And maybe, if all Sanchez has to worry about is hitting rather than catching, he'll do better at it this year. But that's the kind of hope baseball fans always have in April of each year.

I would disagree here. I would put Arraez as the defacto DH.

Buxton in Center and Correa at SS is getting by? Unproven rookies? I am baffled by this post, truly. Then they have Lewis and Celestino and Martin that can play CF if needed long term, two of whom are top 100 prospects, and the other is highly rated.
Catcher is an issue, but I'm not sure what you realistically expect.

Duran is more suited to relieve but he's not a lefty.
They're not going to find one better than Max Kepler

Richmond Dude got a reaction from Karbo in Twins to Sign RHP Chris Archer to One-Year Deal
I'm okay with it, but the Twins have a long history of letting these second-chance guys hold on too long. I don't want to watch Happ or Shoemaker again like we did last year. They let those guys go way too late and it hurt the team.

Richmond Dude reacted to stringer bell in Twins 2022 Position Analysis: Left Field
There's a news item about Larnach today, as well. I think he'll break camp with the team and get plenty of starts in left field. This does leave a real gap in terms of backup outfielders, but i think there's room for Larnach and Kirilloff on 2022 Twins team.

I think it would be great to see Kirilloff at first and Larnach in left against right handed starters. I am just not sure the Twins will start the season that way.

I have no issue with this as long as the leash is short enough. I give him and Bundy both 5 starts. If the ERA is over 5.50 at that point you're cut. Period.

To this point, the FO has mortgaged basically none of its future to put together this roster. I'm cool with that, but still think this canNOT be the final move. The trade DEADLINE is July 30....let's hope there is a trade before then. If the A's are asking the moon for Montas and plan to wait til the deadline, then I'd like to see the FO move on to another option...I've been on the Alcantara wagon for a long time...

Richmond Dude reacted to Brock Beauchamp in sabermetrics and the enjoyment of baseball
There's no doubt that sabermetrics have made baseball a worse spectator sport. Hell, even Theo Epstein agrees with that sentiment.
Sabermetrics, while inevitable, need to have their effects mitigated via rule changes. I simply do not understand how "baseball purists" can simultaneously hate sabermetrics while also being resistant to changes that diminish the effects sabermetrics have had on the game.
Get rid of the shift. Add a pitch clock. Increase the size of the bases. Move the mound back. Do whatever is required to stop baseball from so actively pursuing three true outcomes and pure velocity.

Richmond Dude got a reaction from bird in How Soon Do the Twins Need a Fifth Starter?
I think your comment is especially valid given the new CBA condition that you can only option a player five times in a year without placing him on waivers. While five seems like a lot, those heavy bullpen days followed by exchanging relievers with the AAA squad will evaporate that very quickly.
On the other hand, if you slot in Jax/Thorpe as a tandem 5th starter and tell both they need to go three innings, you haven't lost that much. You could still use them in short relief on some days and one of them would have been the 5th starter anyway.

Richmond Dude got a reaction from Aichiman in They’re baaaack! Ghost runners in extras.
If you're serious, starting with runs scored is pointless, since both teams would get them at the start of their half-inning and it would still come down to what runners or batters scored after the granted run.

I dunno, that story screams a plant from Story's agent to price up a bidder at the end of the process now that most of the other teams that inquired on him have finalized other options.

Let’s hold our horses, folks. Just because the Red Sox are a contender for Story doesn’t automatically mean the Twins should just give up.
Remember when Buxton was almost 100% being traded?

Richmond Dude got a reaction from Employee No. 4210 in Twins are moving Jax and Thorpe to the pen
For all the smack talked about Dobnak, everyone seems to forget just how very badly mishandled he was at the start of last year. Wrecked his whole season. I'm glad to see someone else remembers.
