Interesting point about tradition and the nature of the buttons on the front of the shirt.  If you look back on the 70s and early 80s, the uniforms absolutely lost a lot of tradition.  Most teams wore pullovers, looked awful.  The White Sox tried out shorts at one point.  There was a real snapback to tradition in the mid-to-late 80s.  So if you don't care for the patches, there is hope.

You're right.  I looked up the DFA rules to see what I misunderstood.  Once DFA'd, the team has seven days to either trade him or place him on waivers.  I conflated the two when they are actually separate.

You can't blame the three-outcome game for the team being 16 games under 500.  There is also plenty of blame to go around for the state of the game.  Players are going to work on the skills that make them money and teams are going to emphasize whatever wins games.  Home runs equates to big money for players, and they are not going to develop a 2 strike approach as long as hitting home runs equates to big money.  Look at Kepler for example.  He can't bunt when he has 75 ft between the SS and 3B.  
People don't seem to mind the state of the game nearly as much when their team is winning.

I would absolutely be rolling in $4 tickets right now if I didn't have a baby preventing me from staying out late. Would love to get some deals on weekend, daytime tickets as well.
Still, I really applaud the Twins for getting some star power on the team over the offseason (whether that translates to wins or not) and THEN introducing all of these great deals. There's little more they could do to grow the sport without MLB making some changes.

You aren't wrong on any front. No doom and gloom on the season. The Dodgers are always going to be tough. Even if Kershaw threw a perfecto, it's one game, who cares.
I too thought Rodriguez did his job dancing through three; pushing for the next inning was odd.

Minor quibble, but I didn't really get trying to push for 4 innings out of Rodriguez when the game was still technically within reach, with 9 other guys in the bullpen and an off day today.
I had this thought before he gave up the home runs.  He'd managed to dance out of trouble in his first time through the order, but it seemed dangerous to give too many of the good Dodgers' hitters a second look at him.
Anyway, it actually is way too early to be getting all doom and gloom.  They have a somewhat tough opening set of series, but their playoff chances will rest largely on how they do against their division opponents.  Yeah, there definitely is some weakness in the pitching staff, but there are exciting young guys to watch as well.

Unless, possibly, the Padres viewed Rogers as the single missing piece that would get them over the hump that they seem to have been stuck on in a division with two juggernauts.  They underperformed the past two years and the GM was retained while the manager was fired.  Teams in that position overpay.

Unless, possibly, the Padres viewed Rogers as the single missing piece that would get them over the hump that they seem to have been stuck on in a division with two juggernauts.  They underperformed the past two years and the GM was retained while the manager was fired.  Teams in that position overpay.

It is surplus value, in millions. Rogers is making $7.3 mil and is a free agent at the end of the year, not a whole lot of opportunity for surplus value (although he can be useful at that price).

The fact that we are done with the last spring training game and they still haven't decided between Rooker and Garlick is a bad sign.  Neither looked good this spring, at least statistically, and neither did anything today, either.  To me, it seems like they clearly want Rooker, but they're having trouble convincing themselves.

My prediction is Jax isn't long for the roster....but at least they FINALLY moved him to relief. 

I also don’t hate on Jake Cave. He plays hard and has had some productive interludes. Last year was wrecked by injury. That said, Cave isn’t a good CF, not horrible, but not a great alternative. He hasn’t hit like a corner OF and the other corner OFs are lefties. He just doesn’t fit with the 2022 Twins. If Kirilloff, Kepler or Larnach were out long term, perhaps there is a spot for him for the duration of the injury.
