Fleece, probably not, Rays realize they need to give up something to get something. Cruz is a great fit for Rays, fills a big need for them. They gave up Ryan, who looks for be possible mid to back of rotation starter and Strotman, who has not done much at St. Paul and was taking a roster spot for Rays and now Twins. And probably the biggest factor, Rays have plenty of pitching in the minors-could afford to give up someone.

I agree, that’s exactly what they have to have, a 1 a 2 and a 3 or 4. My suggestion was Robbie Ray, Danny Duffy and Michael Pineda. Then Ober and Ryan plus improve the offense by signing a LF like Brantley. Kepler is iffy, I think Kirilloff could do a better job. Brantley, Buxton, Kirilloff in the OF and sign Billy Hamilton or Greg Allen to fill in as a defensive stud when and if Buxton is injured, Kepler 4th OF. Cave gone.
Miranda, ? (feel like spending? Carlos Correa). Arraez, Sano in the IF with Donaldson at DH. Garver/ Jeffers and please keep Nick Gordon, he has a lot of tools and just needs experience.

Going to be tough, before Maeda went down was thinking one FA starter, Maeda, Ober, Ryan Dobnak, with Jax and Barnes as 7,8 type starter. #6 Winder with first opportunity after opening day. I think Twins should be done with Smeltzer and Thorpe. I like Duran in relief for a year. Strotman has not had much success at St. Paul yet. Balazovic and other  prospects need to start in minors. With Maeda potentially out next year, will likely need to sign another FA starter. Would like to see an 1-2# FA and a middle of rotation starter FA. Besides extending Buxton, spend all money on pitching in offseason, will need a couple of relievers as well.

I really like Ober, not that he is a future CY Young candidate or even top of the rotation pitcher, but a solid starting pitcher for Twins. Ober's case is a good argument against needing X amount of time or innings at each level before someone can advance.

Dude, chill with the attitude. Or keep pounding your head into the wall, eventually maybe the CTE kicks in and makes you happy.

If Ober can stay at the 93'ish velocity he can be a legitimate starter.

Ace is setting the bar pretty high. I would think most would be happy with a solid #2 or #3 pitcher. Hope Ryan gets an opportunity with Twins this year yet and is part of rotation next year. I could see rotation next year of Meada, Pineda or other FA, Ryan, Winder, and Ober, with Dobnak, Jax, Barnes as backups, Balazovic, Duran, Strotmen, Sands, Vallimont pushing for a spot. Please no more Shoemaker, Happ, Bailey types.

Would be good for Gordon to get consistent playing time and at bats. Probably was not going to happen at MLB level this year. Agree time running out for Austudillo and Cave, roster spots may be used better on somone else.

Twins have not been a top of the rotation FA destination whether Twins not willing to spend the money or FAs not wanting to go to Minnesota can be debated. So how do Twins acquire top pitching? They traded for Maeda, who was not considered a top of the rotation pitcher when Twins got him. Twins seem to have an excess of position players with prospects soon to be ready for MLB. The most important way to acquire top pitching is to develop it. Twins have maybe more top pitching prospects in minors than ever before. Only time will tell if prospects develop in the meantime trade for some breakout candidates.

I am Cano and Hackimer fan, but Chalmers has been wild. Chalmers has MLB arm but not MLB control. Hope he figures it out soon, time running out for him. Winder on my list, Canterino has further to go, at high A now, but looks good. Ober did not look overmatched in MLB start. Twins really need to develop some of their own pitching, can't rely on FA market and cast offs every year.

Excited for Twins pitching this year, not only pitchers who will pitch early in year, but also for prospects coming up later in year and next year. Twins look like they are in good position with starting pitching for the next few years. When is last time anyone could say that.

TopGunn, I agree that Ozuna would look good and be pretty fun to have, but I worry about the long-term commitment he'll probably require, because some of the guys you mentioned can fill that DH role soon. I'd probably prefer to go in big on a SS, but I don't love any of the free agent options and you'd be giving up a lot more than salary to on the trade market. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out either way. Also, I am wary of Sano too.

Agree with Jeffers over Avila, think Jeffers can hit 174 against RH pitching. Jeffers is the future along with Garver, give Jeffers the experience. BAs are dismal this year for some of the Twins players, don't have an explanation for drop off. Next year hoping for influx of young talent.

Nice article, I really like Dobnak. He can really pitch and is a great underdog to root for. Should be a solid pitcher for the Twins.

Chacin has not impressed, Dobnak looks good. Should not be that difficult decision. Chacin just looks like he does not have it anymore. Dobnak on the rise, give him a shot, Pineda coming back mid-May then will have to decide on Bailey or Dobnak. Thorpe, Smeltzer, and Duran waiting for their opportunity as well Hill hopefully mid season.

Good write up, I agree don't know how MLB can allow Houston to retain title. It was wrong, they knew it was wrong. No way you can argue that it did not affect outcomes of games. At minimum strip them of WS title, even if you leave it vacant for that year.

I agree with your roster. Teams tend to give veterans first chance out of ST. Bailey and Chacin on shaky ground Dobnak, Thorpe, and Smeltzer will be given chance if don't perform. Not an Astudillo or Cave fan (or Wade), but Cave most likely out of ST with Rooker and Kirilloff waiting for opportunity.
