tony&rodney got a reaction from Rigby in Could Marlins Signing Cueto Mean Trade With Twins Coming?
The Marlins may be interested in a player for now (Kepler, Arraez types) and some guys who are pre-arb too (Miranda, Larnach, Kirillof, Martin types). They may be interested in an A ball player but that is too far down the road because Miami is building their team for this year and the next few seasons. Finally, if the Twins can only protect one player, it should be Emmanuel Rodriguez. The Twins should not listen on him.

Christian Vasquez cannot be traded until June 15.
Plus, for the next year or two, Vasquez is a better option for the Twins at catcher. This is especially true with our young starters.

MLBTradeRumors has a post saying that Miami is listening on Lopez, Rogers, Luzardo, and Cabrera. They want bats and years of control. This is an opportunity for the Twins to pick up a guy (Cabrera) with massive upside. albeit a gamble.
What is needed to complete this for the Marlins? Larnach or Kirilloff and Kepler for Cabrera. Add Ober and Martin going south with Miami sending  Luzardo north? Hard to know what will work but there should be a match for at least Cabrera.

Miami has a few pitchers with years of control remaining and the Marlins still need bats. Maybe it is time to gamble a little going for a Cabrera and/or Luzardo. what does Miami want in return?

Go for Edward Cabrera instead  - maybe Larnach plus a minor league player like Miller.

Manfred and the owners are content with what they have and display little interest, judging from their actions, in growing the game. Simply put, baseball either doesn't have competent overall leadership and vision or perhaps it is not interested.

"To say Joey Gallo was bad last year would be like saying a turd isn't particularly tasty... it hardly describes the full truth."
Is this observation from experience?  I always have to ask, when people say things like this.
At least, nobody can accuse you of burying the lede.  In fact I can't remember anything you said after your opening sentence.

The Bleacher Report ranking of the Twins prospects is certainly encouraging. Minor league players are quite difficult to assess at times. It is worth a look at all of the various ranking of MLB farm systems. Different people and sites can hold widely separate views of individual players. A player like Eduoard Julien can be evaluated so differently. I wonder where he could play effectively in the field. If he gets an opportunity Julien could be a stronger bat than Miranda considering his triple slash numbers and hard hit rates. I find it useful to read the reports written by Keith Law.

I see Martin as a contender for LF and as a super utility guy who could grow into a bigger role.  The Twins didn't hand Ceasar Tovar an exclusive position after acquiring him from the Reds.  I see Martin as a similar type of player who grew into his role.  Martin could certainly be the RH backup for CF as Kepler could be the LH backup.  I would look to move Larnach as a primary piece in a deal to acquire Woodruff or Pablo Lopez.  With our glut of LH hitting OF'ers, Larnach has the most "current" value at 30.4 (BTV).  Kepler as a 4th OF and Kirilloff and Wallner is plenty of LH depth if someone is hurt or not playing well.

Austin Martin does seem like a player that might run with an opportunity. If the Twins aren't going to sign Correa or Turner, then it could be interesting to see what Martin can do. He looked a little rough this summer at shortstop but the Twins are apparently not that into defense as a part of their strategy. Martin might surprise us, in a good way. Maybe.

tony&rodney got a reaction from Old Crow in 2022 Twins--What Went Wrong and How to Fix It
The Twins have options going forward, but they also have problems. The Plan was a problem but it was really only fully in force this year so maybe someone actually decides to can that fail. The lack of fundamentals was a yearlong problem but if someone actually decides that good baseball includes a steady diet of fundamentals this can be addressed and emphasized starting in the offseason and continuing on through Spring Training and the 2023 season.
The roster has problems too and the front office will need to decide who stays, who goes, who gets an opportunity, and who might be acquired via trade or free agency. If the Twins make the correct preparations and move forward with a baseball oriented strategy, they could have as much success next season as they did this year and be much more interesting. This would lead to improved attendance and interest. And this could be done for a $60-90 million roster. Of course, there is more room for error with a $140 million payroll but I don't care how much anyone makes. I only want to see good baseball.
