Ortiz deserves it.  Now elect the other guys that do as well: Manny Ramirez, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens.
Right now the HOF morality lines make about as much sense as the CBA negotiations.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Polanco took off with the bat after settling into 2B.  Don't mess with success.
I also want nothing to do with the defensive alignment of Polanco and Arraez up the middle.  Infield defense may not as be as valuable these days, but it's not irrelevant.

With so many question marks regarding Minnesota's starting rotation, I think it would be prudent for the Twins to keep all options (including Jax as an opener) on the table.

Go spend the rest on pitchers.

He’s in the HoF as a Twin. I think that gets him his number retired.

I always thought it would be cool if the Twins had their own Hall of Fame (like they do), put those numbers up around the stadium (they do), but did not retire the numbers. Maybe then fans could watch player X wearing #6 and patrolling the outfield at Target Field and trying to live up to the number. Nothing real against #82, but I can't relate to that number. I also think former players would like to see someone doing their number proud.
Always loved Jim Kaat and very happy for him. Joe Nathan sure did the #36 proud playing for the Twins though too.

Wait... Rod Carew shouldn't have his number retired by the Twins? His best years and most of his hits came in a Twins uniform. He's the all-time leader in WAR for all Twins players in 60+ seasons. Jim Kaat spent like 12-13 seasons with the Twins (and a few with the Senators).

I get what you're saying, but he spent 15 years in MN.  That's more than any of the other retired numbers aside from Mauer (15) and Kelly (16).  It's not like he was here for a cup of coffee. 🙂

I've been a huge fan of Greinke for a long time, but everything about him right now suggests that he's at the end of the line. Will he get crushed and be an embarrassment out there? Eh, probably not, because he's such a smart pitcher that he'll still be able to get over more times than he should...but hoo boy. There's just not anything in his numbers (and age is a number too) that suggests to me he's going to find any kind of resurgence or even hold with last year's pace.
There's real risk that Greinke is JA Happ, Part 2. The upside is the hope that he can grind out 150 innings at a 4.50 ERA. Not sure I'm excited about that?
Now, considering how short we are in starters...maybe 1 year of Greinke isn't so bad while the young guys find their footing. The odds are very good that Greinke will at least start the season healthy and ready, and a short spring training probably won't hurt him as much as some? But this ain't Greinke from 5 years ago and we need to understand that.

chinmusic reacted to Squirrel in Could the Twins Weather the Blowback of a Luis Arraez Trade?
I thought we should have traded Arraez after his first season. If we are going to make a trade for pitching, we are going to have to give up someone and Arraez, in a package, is probably the best player to bring back something. But he is a favorite of many, so it would definitely hurt, but a great return could soften the blow

Let's just be patient and see what Lewis has this year in AA or AAA or with the Twins, This time next year we should have a better idea of what Lewis can do. No need to trade him now.

I would stop by and see Tony every year at the Minnesota State Fair. He would always kid about me having too many of his autographs, and I would say that keep finding new images for him to sign.

He loved posing for photos with kids...and fans.

But my favorite is seeing him out on the wiffle ball diamond, pitching to kids who have no idea who he is, while adoring parents took pictures.

I hope the Twins have treated him really well for all opf his ambassador duties and his stay in Minnesota, which has been his life in baseball!

And gald he can now be a Hall of Famer with all that will bring to him and his family's future!

I had the opposite perspective.  I was a far-away Twins fan in the days well before the Internet. Tony-O was my favorite player, but I really didn’t know if he was a good guy or not.  I was devastated by his knee injury (he was having a career year when it happened, which is saying a lot for him).  But I had no idea that he remained so engaged with the team until the Internet age.  That continues to delight me:  that he is loved for his character and personality as well as for what he did in the 1960s and 1970s.

I am old enough to have seen Tony O play out his entire career, and he was great. He could hit for power, average, was clutch, and before the knee injury could run. In the field he was also great. Good range, would get great jumps, I honestly don't remember him ever just dropping a ball, and he had a cannon of an arm. There is a reason he is in the Twins Hall, and because he is such a nice guy. Tony O, You are loved by so many in Twins territory!!

Yeah, I don't see any way the Twins are a playoff team in 2022, so signing Rodon to a short term deal would only be to placate the fan base. Not that that's a bad thing, but I don't feel it's essential that they sign him.
