I'm starting to come around on Kluber as a 1-year flyer similar to Rich Hill.  Also a big fan of your bullpen options. Think Bradley on a 2-year deal would be really solid. Nice work!

Just to re-iterate something I've speculated on previously, Dyson could sign a deal something similar to what Pineda did. Something like a cheap 1yr deal for rehab time and then a contract for 2021, possible with guaranteed money and incentives vs fully guaranteed.

They may just move on. But they may decide they already have an investment here and would like to see a potential return.

Agreed Smith could be too costly, and have too many suitors, to become a Twin. Diekman and Pomeranz could be outstanding and for less cost.

Going to disagree on Dobnak only because I think he has a pretty good shot at being the 5th SP. There will be competition, for sure, but I wouldn't pencil him in for this role until that is decided. Small detail, but just where I'm going with it.

Very possible, IMO, there really isn't a true 8th man in the pen as it could be a constant rotation spot between Minnesota and Rochester as needed.

Well thought out and agree on everything except the Dobnak comment.

A couple notes... One pitched in the AL. One the NL. That's going to skew the stats a bit whether we want to admit that or not.

So I'm not sure I'd argue MadBum was the better pitcher considering he faced a pitcher in the 9 spot 2 times minimum per game.

The other thing I cannot help but notice is that Verlander had quite a few more innings. I'm somewhat curious if that was due to SF being more conservative with his pitch count (1800 innings in 10 years isn't bad) or if he spent more time on the DL during that stint...

Bumgardner isn't my first choice, but I do think he's not a bad option. The question to me is whether or not the analytics guys can find something to right the ship like Houston did with Verlander.

He is not my first choice, but he is my first real viable choice to sign.
He is a guy even in down years averages more than 6 innings per start and he is what the Twins fans I know have been hoping every hot shot Twins prospect turns into and being 30 doesn't scare me and his worst years are almost better than Darvish's best years and everybody wanted him.

It always depends on the price. But wouldn't leave him out as a possible. The field for rotation arms of quality isn't that huge in 2020, sadly.

Been on record as saying I wasn't crazy about Bumgarner as a mid season pick up last year, but am full in on signing him now.

I'm trusting decent peripherals on a bad team, not yet 31yo, career numbers, experience, a change of scenery, and Wes Johnson.

I am excited about signing a stud pitcher, but I have to say there is only one Verlander - he is great.

While I don't think there is another Verlander, I'm intrigued. I love a POV from a SF fan of the past few seasons.

I think it's actually a really strong crop of FA arms this offseason. Cole, Strasburg, Wheeler, Ryu and MadBum are all top of the rotation type arms. There is also some really nice depth with Odorizzi, Pineda, Miley, and Hamels.

Interesting article. I hope the Twins do sign this North Carolina native.

You have convinced me, go sign MadBum.  I still want Cole or Strasburg also.

Gleeman was the one who got me started with Rosario and then the new essays pushed me to write.  Thanks.  It has been really fun to have all those responses.

    Hi Mike -

I don't mind at all. I appreciate you crediting me in the post and linking to my story. Also appreciate the kind words about my approach and write up.

I found your write up intriguing. You definitely did a great job stirring up conversation as evidenced by the 25 comments. Well done.

Your point about clutch hitting is very well taken. Rosario had a .900 OPS this season in high leverage situations. I thought Aaron Gleeman did a really nice job of articulating why the Twins should explore trading Rosario if you haven't read it already. Here is the link.

That is certainly the question to ask. It's been understandable that ownership hasn't invested in the team for the past decade. Now after winning 100 games, winning the division, and having money to spend we'll certainly see how ownership responds and if they do, indeed, put their money where their mouth is. They're certainly saying all the right things right now. Thanks for reading!
